Had a cavity that was under a filling removed recently. My mouth got numb, but I was still feeling that pain when they drilled. Waited about 15 min and my tooth finally got numb.

recently i had a molar removed, it was the most painful 30 minutes of my life. local anesthesia didnt work, dentist gave me at least 20 shots and i still felt the pain+ the pain of the needle everytime. only good thing bout those 20 shots was not having any pain days after extraction.

the red hair gene is true I'm a red head and it's hard for my daughter to get numb as well and I just came back from the dentist and got a bottom (which they say mandibular is usually harder to numb more so anyway than maxillary since the jawline is so much more thicker) premolar pulled :( and I had to get 4 shots the weird thing is , is it's mainly always my inner gumline (not outer) that fails to numb.

Also note there is research showing that if you have EDS, it can also affect how you react to local anesthetics. Pre-diagnosis, I had the wonderful (read horrifying) experience of my numbing feeling like it was working to a 16 year old me, and then very quickly, mid root canal realize that it was not, it just did not hurt as bad as the actual tooth before the numbing & I had already been in a lot of pain for over a week because I was not able to get in to see then right away when the pain started. I had a tooth that grew in without enamel on part of it, and while I was at camp the stuff that was put on that part of my tooth chipped. No mater what my dentist tried I felt everything, and I think part of the issue was that he thought I was just feeling a pinch when I expected to feel nothing.
And then I did not see a dentist again for 10 years because when someone who rates "having a price of Lego glued to the arch of my foot" as a 3 on a pain scale says that something hurts... It probably is not just a pinch...
Now I need a total of 12 fillings (3 completes) and had to have all 4 wisdom teeth removed, and the only reason I went back to the dentist was because one of my wisdom teeth literally broke in half because... My dentist was hopefully with the first batch and was trying to get 4 done, but midway through the 3rd one I started feeling again and he could not add more numbing safely. And I chose to pay to be completed under for the wisdom teeth removal, because no way was I going to "tough though" that numbing going wrong.

Wow I wish I could go to this dentist office and have u as my hygienist! I would always go to the dentist and that’s allot coming from me bc I avoid the dentist if I can and I’ve had multiple teeth pulled bc of my dental anxiety and dental trauma but next week I am facing my fears and going to the dentist and these videos are helping me so much! I had a experience with lidocaine and I’m not sure if I have the redhead gene or not but I have a reaction to the epinephrine and I have double vision with it more then once and thought I was having a stroke and it gave me allot of dental trauma

I love going to the dentist. I went to the dentist today and they could not nun me up. He put five different numbs in my mouth, and the back of my mouth was numb but my lip wasn’t why, and he could not do the procedure to give me a fill-in Because my lip wasn’t numb all the way and I did not have no coffee today and I do not have red hair. I had a tooth pull a few months ago back there and it took a lot of numbing to try to numb my mouth the right way and now it’s notnumbing right and I’ve never had that problem. What should I do?

I would like to add low pain tolerance to the list, as well as not waiting long enough for the injection to take effect. Despite getting double shot and waiting, I can still feel a bit of pain here and there, though my mouth is just more sensitive to pain.

I was told by my dentist that differences in nerve mapping can also affect numbing??? And so another location for the injection was needed to accomplish the needed effect??

My hair is bordering on auburn, my mom's is red, my sister's is brown. We all numb up badly, and sedate badly.
I had a few small fillings that turned into a root canal treatment and my dentist was amazing. I let everyone know I've got the MC1R (redhead) gene so we were all on the same page. I ran through the freezing halfway through! Even though I was terrified we all decided that injecting again and keeping going was the best choice.
I have PTSD, and some of my triggers involve teeth and I don't like the feeling of powerlessness and vulnerability I have in a dentist's chair. So that might be part of it too.
Based on that appointment they used a different injection location at the next appointment. They let me know it would hurt a little more going in, but should be more effective overall and last as long as it needed to. It was briefly uncomfortable, but it went way better! I got feeling back on my walk home rather than halfway through.

*_Wait._* I was told that the lower left side of my mouth wasn't getting numb because it's takes longer. Are they supposed to give you repeated injections?

  • @sparkie7
    @sparkie7 26 дней назад

only the left side of my mouth gets slightly numb when my dentist needs to drill. on 2 separate occasions, after waiting over an hour and receiving multiple shots, i told her to just do it and get it over with. i was in so much pain as she drilled. this also happened once when i got a molar extracted on my left side, the dentist didn't believe me that i was in pain as he pulled my poor tooth out. he was such a tool. i'm not a red head, i didn't have any infections, i don't drink coffee, nor was i overly anxious. i also woke up from anesthesia during my colonoscopy - to the dr's surprise and i got to watch on screen the process of the camera moving through my insides. i fell asleep again briefly, but woke again to find that i was the only patient in the room not completely passed out. no idea why this happens.

never had issues until i went to get a molar that was broken pulled cause state insurance don't cover crowns/root canals and the demeanor changed when they found out i cannot afford aroot canal they numbed me up so much but still my jaw hurt and the tooth in front of the bad one still hurt they got impatient with me when we had to stop several times and i was sweating anxiety they were not nice to me and i can't take ibuprofen and so no pain meds either. going to complain to the board for their unprofessionalism.

I can't stand the feeling. Hours later still numb. Whatever the oral surgeon uses that took my wisdom teeth out and has done a crown lengthening on me oh man lol. Drooling on myself biting my lip or tongue. I normally come home and take a nap to try to sleep it off but every now and then it just stays numb all day. The worst though was the first ever root canal I had. The numb wasn't so bad it was that the endodontist farted a few times while he had me kicked back there so I got to taste his fart as he worked on me. That was the longest damn root canal too. I had to take 2 trips a week apart and it was about 4 hours total for 1 single molar. I have had other root canals done that they did the whole tooth in less than an hour here is the dude farting on me for 4 hours.

As a dentist, patients not getting numb can be one of the most stressful things ever. 😑
Also, some patients try to "take the edge off" by smoking (marijuana) before the appointment. That doesn't help them to get numb, either.
Another thing is that some patients have slightly different anatomy. Knowing the history of that patient is very important.
