  • Today we dive into English ska & pop band Madness. "It Must Be Love" was originally issued as a standalone single in late 1981, reaching #4 on the UK Singles Chart. It was later released in America on the Complete Madness compilation album in 1983!

This is more pop Madness as their success was building! First Album more pure Ska form! I highly recommend a listen❤🎉

Madness are a band with the most appropriate band name. They are madness personified. As a Brit growing up in the late 70’s through the 80’s, madness encapsulated my musical childhood, outside of my dad’s record collection. So many hits. Even the darker ones like cardiac arrest, grey day, or embarrassment, were all still catchy as hell

I think you have to be a Brit to really appreciate Madness.

Love this song, still see it in ads regularly in Australia. I love this song. Still not exactly sure what the warning at the start was for though. Madness were huge in Australia. Thanks mainly to The Young Ones, well that was where I was introduced to them anyway.

The warning was for the electric guitar being played under water in the swimming pool.

Hello friends. This famous theme from Madness is not really from Madness... the real author is Labi Saffre and he is the black violinist who appears in the video clip. Greetings from Spain.

Please please go back to their earlier ska sound to see proper Madness! Try One Step Beyond then Nightboat To Cairo. Though they are still infused with that English goofiness you might not be able to get past.

You Americans missed out on a great band. I just dont think they were marketed very well in the US. They had a lot of top pop tunes and did well here in New Zealand.

I recommend NW5 by Madness which might be more up your alley and is a great song and more reflective of their evolution. Also, the "nutty boys", as per Suggs, their lead singer, find it hard not to "wear their clown nose" in their videos even on some of their more serious, poignant songs. So, sometimes best to listen to just the audio. I like the creativity and humor and humility they show in their videos, but I can definitely see where it can be distracting. NW5 was used in a German TV show which is the background for this video. The song, itself, refers to the NW5 post code for Camden Town, London, where the band originates.

Loved early Madness (especially the second album, 'Absolutely') but to be honest for me they overdid the jokey videos. I find they detract from the music, perhaps I'm just grumpy!
