drivers license - Olivia Rodrigo (cover in my native language)

  • The literal Filipino translation to drivers license is "lisensya ng drayber/tsuper" (google said so, lol) if you speak filipino, or hear the semblance to the English term from that, you'd know it doesn't fit in a melancholic breakup song. haha. So as with our other translations, here is my Tagalog take on Olivia Rodrigo's heart wrenching hit. This is actually my first time translating to Tagalog! idk why. But here's to starting new things this year! I grew up in the Philippines and I've spoken the language all my life. Tagalog has always sounded the best to me in love songs. I tried to maintain the overall meaning and rewrote some to better fit the flow of the song without taking away from the its meaning.
Special thanks to my brotha Lance and ma friend Logan (link to his RUclips channel soon!) for the shots used in this video! :)
I hope you all enjoy this one! Happy New Year! :) Thank you for sticking around all these years. I'm still here because of you.

    Lyrics:
Naaalala mo pa ba nung sabay tayong bumabyahe
    Lahat sila walang masabi
Dahil laging ikaw ang bukang bibig
    Walang ibang nakakaalam
Kung sino ka aking unang pagibig
    Bukas magisang tatahakin
Iisipin na lang nandun ka din
Hindi tayo perpekto pero walang hihigit pa sayo
Hindi lubos maisip, pano natin narating ang dulo
Wala bang saysay ang lahat ng sinulat sakin?
Kasama nung una, ngayon magisang babalik
Sa sinag ng ilaw, at bawat daan
Ang tanging naaaninaw, ay laging ikaw
    Kahit na ika'y lumisan
Bakit mahal pa rin kita oh
    Bawat yapak may hawak
    Na anino mo
Ang yong tinig lumilingid sa ingay ng mundo
    Kahit na anong pagtama
    Bakit mahal pa rin kita
Hindi tayo perpekto pero walang hihigit pa sayo
Hindi lubos maisip, pano natin narating ang dulo
Wala bang saysay ang lahat ng sinulat sakin?
Kasama nung una, ngayon magisang babalik

It’s well written in the original English version. Lyric writing should not be obvious. Think of it as if you were writing a poem. In English, there’s a line that says, “Cause you said forever, now I drive alone past your street.” It’s not literal but it conveys the loneliness of someone who went through a failed relationship. You can visualize it easily in your head how it feels like to see the same things you saw when you were with your loved one- everything as in the stop signs, etc. difference is that you don’t have to be literal about it. For a 17 year old girl, Olivia has good songwriting skills.

    • @denniszenanywhere
      @denniszenanywhere 3 года назад +1

The Tagalog translation, Walang Hanggan Sana, Ngayon Mag-isang Babalik, is quite poetic, more of a transcreatino, as it's not a literal translation.

I was so excited when I saw this! I feel dumb because I didn’t realize you were Filipina but it’s so obvious. I met my husband in the Philippines and I was there maybe 5 times? I loved it there and we would’ve loved to have lived there if it was easier for me to live and work there legally.
I love Tagalog. I’m pretty lazy about learning and sometimes I don’t even make any effort for months at a time but I also retain everything I learned previously. Tagalog also makes me so angry at how stupid English is. Like in Tagalog everything makes sense and doesn’t try to trick you. Why does English have all these silent letters and sounds that change?!?
And if something doesn’t translate you just throw in an English word!😂
My sentences are very limited to conversational phrases I need in my travels such as. Dahil ba puti ako? Mahal ko Chow King! Wala Kang puwet!
(I would often make mistakes because Americans obviously suck at learning other languages and mess up puti for another similarly spelled word with an -a😅, still funny)

thanks for this ate, I never felt so broken in my whole life. It’s true, nawalan ng saysay ang lahat ng sinulat ko. days ago when I showed him one of my works, he said it’s 7 out of 10 because it’s a sad piece. So after months, I held my pen and ready to write again, and now it’s not about sadness and pain but about him. It’s full of love and just the thought of having him, tapos ngayon hahaha ghosted ako. I didn’t had the chance to give him my piece that I wrote, and it’s all bout him.
