    Its standard practice in Europe to re-use jars and lids from the store. Pressure canning isn't really a thing here, so you don't typically find people preserving meat in jars, but jam, jellies, pickles, chutney is common. We dont water bath those either as the pH or sugar content ensures safety. Jams etc. Aren't heat treated commercially either, just hot fill and lid on.

    I love shopping at US Food Chefs. I like to buy the pork belly, portion it out and make pork belly tacos. The Daley’s bacon is good too but it’s getting pricey. Usually I buy heavy cream and half and half for our coffee. Thanks for another great video.

    Ranch is where it's at and the turkey agrees.
    It's just the two of us, so I stick with smaller packages and stock up when they have a really good sale.

    My Wal Marts carries one small section that has bulk size cans, if people do not have Cascos or BJ's near them they can check their local Wal Marts in one of the food aisles.
    it's not a very big section so look carefully.

    I wouldn’t repackage any of it. A gallon jug uses less refrigerator space than 4 quarts. Buy cheese in blocks, grate before freezing. Grated cheese has “cellulose” (paper pulp). Block cheese crumbles after freezing… which is perfect for already grated cheese.

    • @mamabairds
      @mamabairds  5 месяцев назад

      To me, smaller containers are easier to handle and make the food last longer. The less air exposed to the product, the better. Plus, I couldn't imagine having the kids pour their own ranch out of a gallon jug! Haha. That's a tragedy waiting to happen!

      The thing is you don't have to do it all in one day. pick a can that will not spoil like the ketchup and do that one day, then do the ranch the next day. They are safe in their present containers so do them as you can.

    WOW. That is some great prices on cheese. I would have jumped all over those different kinds of cubed cheeses for 6.99. That's only 2.34 a pound and they make a great snack for grandkids and also good for hiding my fur babies medicine in them.
    It would be better for me to get the Hidden Valley in a 36 ounce bottles. It only cost a few cents more and I don't have to refrigerate it. Since it's only me I'm afraid it would go bad before I used it all but I sure enjoyed watching you. You said you have recanned mustard before. Can honey mustard be recanned and if so for how long and would I water bath or pressure can it?

    • @mamabairds
      @mamabairds  5 месяцев назад +1

      It was a hard debate on that cheese! It really was a good deal! To answer your question, you can't recan honey mustard because it is a salad dressing and has other ingredients. Mustard has a high acidity rate and that's why it can be recanned. Thanks for always watching!!

      Yes, I've answered this before. It does seem to be different here; for everyone in the community is welcome to a portion of the food to help with their groceries. You can't get everything that you need for your family from the food bank, so shopping at stores is still necessary. I choose bulk stores to shop to get as much bang for my buck as I can.
