    So many memories associated with this mall. I live very close to it still and it saddens me that my children won't have the same opportunities for similar experiences.

    I have so many memories of The Upper Valley Mall. As a young child, we would do all of our Christmas shopping there and across the street at Service Merchandise, Hills, and Gold Circle. We would watch the 4th of July fireworks from the Gold Circle parking lot.
    In the mall, we would ride the little train at Christmas time, eat at Woolworths where the cherry coke had chunks of real cherries in it, Spent a lot of time at the arcade where placing your quarter on the machine meant that you were reserving your turn to play next, Radio Shack next to Sears always had someone demonstrating the latest and greatest new toy, KB Toys and Spencer Gifts were the place to be (surprised to see Spencers still there), I remember the two story book store, the pet shop, the central water fountain was always full of coins, my friends and I watched Platoon, Top Gun, Iron Eagle, Breakin', and all the classics at the Cinama. Thank you for posting this!!

      Your welcome. That place you described sounds amazing too bad it doesn’t exist anywhere. I’m just old enough to barely remember a time when you could enjoy yourself outside of working. Now all there is to do is work and pay bills. Thanks for the memories

    I grew up in Springfield and remember well when the UVM opened its doors. Lots of great times and landed my first job at the Kinney Shoes. Made some great friends and it changed the course of my life. Found I didn't want to be a shoe salesman the rest of my life which inspired me to attend university! It is sad that the young people of today would rather shop online than get out and meet their friends at the mall. They will miss out on a lot of great memories.

    Nice video. I grew up in Springfield in the 90s and my last 3 years of high school I lived at the apartments just behind the mall. There was a trail you could walk down so we’d sneak down to the mall sometimes. my best friend and I would also walk down to the Cinema a lot on Saturday afternoons to catch a matinee flick. Haven’t lived in Springfield or been to this mall in over 20 years, but was sad when Cinema closed and now the rest of the mall. Thanks for posting.

    I grew up shopping here and playing games in the arcade. In the 80s 90s and early 2000s this place was hopping. It's sad to see this online shopping craze overtake these businesses.

    I made many trips to the UVM and am sorry to see it go, but you know that the situation is hopeless when the largest outlet left open there is Spencer Gifts.

    I grew up in Springfield and spent a chunk of that time at the mall. I watched countless movies at the theater, dropped many a quarter at the video arcade, and even worked at the Sears for a few years in the late 1980s. The mall was so vibrant and busy back then. It's so sad to know that it is closed for good.

      I feel that the loss of this mall has hurt the community and makes it a less desirable place to live. I never got to see it in its prime but I’m glad I could document what was left for its last few years.

    Everyone flocked to the low prices e.g. Walmart, amazon. Trouble is once they have finished destroying or buying up there competition it is quite likely they will decide those prices don't need to be so low any more and we as consumers will be screwed.

    I had never been to Springfield or the Upper Valley Mall, but it is unfortunate to see it go. I couldn’t agree more that we shouldn’t just work or come home, and not having 0% of anything special to experience outside of our personal lives. If that’s the case, then I don’t think it’s a good idea for the future of human to experience or deal with. Good video, by the way.

      Thanks for the positive comment yes we need to all slow down and stop working 24 seven unfortunately most people anymore have to just in order to barely survive it’s really sad so we can’t enjoy anything anymore and then the stuff that is out there that’s enjoyable closes because no one can afford it or has time to go and enjoy it such as museums zoos malls etc.

      Also mall owners are not listening to what the shoppers and public want out of their malls like what kind of merchandise would they actually buy what would attract them to the mall

    The Peanuts characters were donated to the historical society! :-) They were at the mall since the 70s.

    Has anyone thought about building a nice high-quality multiple purpose high class casino / dinner theater in this area . It would attract people from larger surrounding cities. Like the ones in the Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky.

    We can blame the 'Plannedemic' on the state the economy is in.

    • @TiltedTripodMedia
      @TiltedTripodMedia  3 года назад

      I don’t believe the state of the economy is due to the pandemic. Yes the pandemic exacerbated it but the economy being in the crapper is all due to greed. Getting a job that can sustain the basics of living has become increasingly harder. The gap between wages and the cost of things have been growing. Raising the wages won’t solve the problem if the cost of things just increase to fund ceos and higher ups million dollar salary’s. So to put it simply inflation and not being able to get a good job is the problem. I was just turned down for a basic retail job because lack of experience! Umm I worked over 3 years retail soooo.

    • @charitysusan8234
      @charitysusan8234 3 года назад +1

      Sorry to hear that. That's just pitiful. I do feel like the pandemic is partly to blame, especially with the lockdowns and stimulus checks, but I'm sure it's due to different things.
