sand beans?? we called them "bean-hole beans" - basically the same premise. build a fire and when the coals are red hot put the cast iron pot (i was told it had to be cast iron so it could take the heat) on top then bury with the dirt overnight (make sure beans are boiling then pile coals up around it). you'll need a way to get the pot out because it will be super hot. The basket thing we use to put in a fire - we would make tinfoil potatoes or veggies and using this basket made it really easy to get in the fire without losing the tin foil packet. when you do them on the grill it's very easy but not so much with an open fire. it's a handy gadget so you'll find many uses for it.
Fr. Mark, wishing you an abundance of New Year Blessings of peace, joy, good health, safety, and God's favor. Love your videos! May I suggest "earth baked beans" as another name for your beans. 🏕️🍲🔥
Holding the tea cup with the apocalypse behind you is a classic image! Bless you Fr. Mark and marching with your daily messages into 2025 will help make it a blessed year indeed! Brian
Yes that basket is for a grill. I have used it for things that are prone to fall thru the grill such as veggies and fish. It could also be used a a fry basket.
Right. Here in Taiwan, many breakfast shops and fry-food shops do use that kind of basket and hang both sides of the handles on the brim of the fry pot so they don't go into the fry pot entirely. And set the alarm, when the alarm goes on, your food is well done. I am not sure if you could imagine what I described.
@@cmamabuhs1 I saw a rubber cover for handles. Not sure where to get them but would prevent a burn of a hand if handle is hot for sure. Get an oven mitt Father. or Oven mitts.

I just looked this up when I saw your comment. How tragic. Praying for those killed and all affected there. Something is happening to our country. Keep strong in Christ.
Yes, I heard first thing this morning...Fr. John Brown is the director of New Orleans High school...I pray and hope that none of his students are directly involved in this tragedy... ❤ Happy Solemnity of Mary, and Happy New Year Father. Nice score at the thrift store. There's lots of survival stuff at thrift stores that people overlook, because it isn't new. A cast iron pot would be the best option as it can withstand heat whilst being cooked, either in a dug hole and covered in soil to slowly be cooked or above ground, above a fire pit while being boiled or cooked. Cast iron skillets and pots are quite expensive and heavy but sturdy and last a life time. I would go for either cast iron or stainless steel pots. Avoid aluminum pots/pans as they are toxic (carcinogenic)
The basket is frequently used for deep frying French Fries or other similar items in boiling oil. It usually hooks over the edge of the deep fryer and is just lifted out when they are done. It is then filled again and the process is repeated.
Father, soak your beans in water over night before cooking them and it will take much less time to get them done what ever way you use to finish cooking them. Love you Father!

Yes I washed and picked through dry beans because I have found pieces of gravel before and you don’t want to bite down on a rock. Then I covered them in clean water in a pot overnight and they absorb the water and soften and then I cooked them all day in my crockpot or in a 5 quart pot, added chopped onion, diced ham or in the old days we used bacon. HAPPY NEW YEAR, FATHER!! 🎉❤🙏🏻🙏🏻Father, the type of pot you need for sand baking is a cast iron pot that can take the heat directly on coals. Even old rusty cast iron pots can be refurbished. Lots of you tube videos on that. Also on how to reseason them. Your wonderful basket is used to grill veges, fries and fish on top of a grill. Prevents them from falling through the grate into the fire while cooking & also can be used to better control the heat because you can shake it and move it around. Just don’t let the handle catch fire. Your wonderful porcelain cooker you found is a great utensil to bake chicken and roasts and ham in an oven. I have had one just like it for years and it never wears out. Just use gentle scrubbers on it so you don’t scratch it!! Check out Sun Ovens. You can cook & bake bread in them assuming there is some sun!! Also You Tube videos on crafting a homemade one which might be more to your liking. May God’s blessings, peace, good health, safe travels & adventures and God’s continued provision be yours and your loved ones this coming year. VIVA CRISTO REY!!
What a blessing to tune into this channel! Spiritual nourishment and prepping techniques! Looking forward to seeing how your cooking goes... I've been wondering about sand baking food, but didn't have the opportunity to experiment with that yet!
Father Mark- Look into purchasing a sun oven. Works even in the winter temps. The black pot you have would work perfect in the sun oven. Stick with lentils, split peas and smaller sized bean varieties. Of course always pre-soak dry beans to reduce cooking time and improve digest ability (replacing the soak water with fresh cooking water)
Happy New Year to you Fr Mark Blessings to over flow You give so much to our Lords people I for one believe for wonderful things to happy for you this year
It looks like a popcorn popper to me! I can't wait to see how to use the roaster to cook beans in the ground! You are just a wealth of all sorts of information!!😊
Happy New Year Father Mark from New Hampshire, USA ! I have that roaster, same size. Got it in my single days back in 1972. Love that thing. I especially loved your teacup yesterday with all the butterflies. I would delight in drinking my tea in that cup. The one you shared with us today looks a bit more for masculine use. And, last but not least - I have seen many people use that basket to grill veggies on their propane gas or charcoal grills. Keep all the veggies from falling into the flames. Can’t wait to hear about your sand beans. I was thinking about the soaking in water then long time cooking it takes for beans. Not exactly quick eating; plus if water is scarce, you need to think of the water used for soaking the beans as well. Just a thought. I don’t know much about prep cooking and look forward to hearing/learning more from you. God Bless You! LOVE hearing your sermons blurbs and other interesting shares. Please don’t stop. You are a light shining in this world of darkness!!
We had a basket like that when I was a kid growing up so we could make popcorn over the fireplace fire, or near the fire, but definitely not in the fire. Mom lined it with foil so the seeds wouldn't fall out before they popped. Just don't fill it too much because it's important to be able to keep the lid down so the popcorn doesn't pop into the fire. Good memories. Remember the salt and butter!
Love the tea cup and if it makes heavenly aroma of tea, then it's priceless. Happy New Year as we await Our Lord's return, our Blessed Hope. Stay safe!
The caged cooker looks like something you would use for dipping whatever you want into hot fat, like if you were frying some chicken wings, or making french fries. Another key survival thing would be to always have a magnifying glass that can focus the sun's rays onto some dry leaves or paper to start a fire if your butane lighter runs out. I'll be looking forward to your bean project!
Happy New Year!! The basket is for grilling a mixture of veggies. They work great on your grill! For over an open fire, I would line it with tin foil and be sure to spray with Pam or put olive oil in the bottom before putting in the veggies. This will make the veggies not stick to the tin foil. Enjoy! I thoroughly enjoy all of your videos, thank you! God Bless You!

Hi Father, My grandfathers firs job was working as the cooks assistant in the woods of northern New Brunswick in the early 1900's. he told me stories of digging the hole under the fire pit every night to bury the bean pot. Their camps held 75 men cutting pulp wood all winter. They went into the woods in September and cam out in May. Apparently they never got sick and never lacked for food. He loved beans and so do I!
Father Mark, Thank you for your amazing and helpful videos. You can soak the rinsed beans (without seasoning) overnight or for a day and rinse again. It will shorten the cooking time. Even faster with tiny beans like Azuki or small white beans. Happy New Year!
Yes fish meat veggies the you can rotate it on the fire cook both side even toast 🎉Happy new Year its gonna be a bumpy ride but we are in it together ❤️ grab your bibles rosaries buckle in
I can't wait to see what you cook up after all this wonderful advice from your followers. Your videos are enjoyable and it is nice that they are short so I can click on them during the work day for a little pick me up. I have a blue/black speckled roaster like the one you held up for your beans. I use it to roast chickens or a small turkey for the holidays. I put a little grate in the bottom so the poultry doesn't stick. Not sure that is a prepper tip, but just an idea.
sand beans?? we called them "bean-hole beans" - basically the same premise. build a fire and when the coals are red hot put the cast iron pot (i was told it had to be cast iron so it could take the heat) on top then bury with the dirt overnight (make sure beans are boiling then pile coals up around it). you'll need a way to get the pot out because it will be super hot. Yes that basket is for a grill. I have used it for things that are prone to fall thru the grill such as veggies and fish. It could also be used a a fry basket.
You can also use it to catch fish
Unfortunately, they don’t work very well over an open fire because of the short wooden handle but maybe there’s a remedy for that.
Right. Here in Taiwan, many breakfast shops and fry-food shops do use that kind of basket and hang both sides of the handles on the brim of the fry pot so they don't go into the fry pot entirely. 🌊✝️ Happy New Year to you too dear Fr. Mark, and to all your online pilgrims of hope! I hope we'll all get together and sip some heavenly tea in paradise someday! 🕊️🍵🎉🙏
🌊✝️ Viva Cristo Rey! ✝️🌊
(PS. We love thrifting too, and please know that you got totally ripped off on that $10 tea cup, I hope it's laced with gold...😊)
Happy New Year Fr. Mark 🎉

Looks like a popcorn popper to me. Happy New Year Fr Mark!
Father Mark, Thank you for your amazing and helpful videos. You can soak the rinsed beans (without seasoning) overnight or for a day and rinse again. It will shorten the cooking time. Even faster with tiny beans like Azuki or small white beans. Happy New Year!
Happy New Year!
Inflation is crazy in Canada. Can’t wait until you make the beans. Looking forward to the video.

Thank you Father !
Happy New Year Father Mark! May God bless you and keep you!
