    just an fyi for anyone wondering. Cordura is quieter and softer than Ballistic Nylon, but ballistic nylon has considerably higher tearing strength than cordura, whereas cordura is quite a bit more abrasion resistant. Depends on your planned use for the bag but may be useful info. Great vid by the way, would probably grab the vanquest if it were just a TINY bit bigger.

    Excellent comparison ... thank you. I was waffling between the two and your extensive review helped me decide. The choice is shaped by individual need and use pattern and you illustrated the pros and cons of both in a balanced view.

    Upon closer inspection of the back portion (which arguably is the primary part that touches your person) is perfect after 6 years of use on the maxpedition, whereas it is VERY noticeably frayed on the vanquest. One time use, as you said. Also, after 6 years, the shape of the maxpedition is still perfect, and can still stand up on its own, not so much for the vanquest as it keeps falling over. This leads me to believe the maxpedition is of better materials and quality. This made up my mind for my christmas present this year.. I bought the maxpedition as that vanquest's weakness is a complete dealbreaker for me. Thanks for the review, as I was on the fence between the two.

    • @GearReviewDepot
      @GearReviewDepot  9 лет назад

      Agreed. I like them both for sure but I was also surprised by the way that back portion looked after very little use.

    My jumbo has a pocket inside the side zip pocket. Plus there is a pocket that runs behind that same zip pocket that I didn't see mentioned. Thank You for a great detail video on both bags.

      HarleyWood23 Yeah, I'm pretty pleased with the bag so far, when I can afford it I'm going to pick up some more gear from them. I do want a few of their pouches to compare against my Maxped pouches for EDC.

    Helpful review for a bag to use to visit Normandy for the 75th aniversary. I use the Rap-Dom 311 messenger bag for EDC, and it has been awesome for 2 years, but a bit large for the tramping around the beaches. Thanks for the detailed comparison.

    Tim I re watched this vid today, as i indicated about 1 month ago i got the smaller version of the mobius 2, the tolcat, its a great bag , but alas its slightly smaller then the mobius 2.0, and with the edc i find myself putting in it ( i am a ret Calif. Deputy Sheriff) so gun ammo and mags etc, must all fit) also the Tolcat being slightly smaller centers the weight more so it seems heavier , but its a great bag, i will be sending for the Mobius 2.0 and im sure it will solve my not so serious problem.., unless you have other suggestions for a differant bag this thanks to your very informative vids on the Mobius....thanks again for your help and dedicition to this product.

      Have you looked at the brand Hazard 4? I have no experience with them but I know they have some really nice bags and they use good quality materials. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Vanquest fan and love my Mobius but there are other brands that are pretty good. I just want you to get exactly what you want and not settle. Check em out. They have some really nice shoulder bags. I know their site is down right now for updates but they have products on Amazon and OpticsPlanet.com sells their brand.

    This was a very good and timely review for me. I have been deciding between the Vanquest, the Maxpedition and the 5.11 Moab, I had decided the two you reviewed would be best for me but to choose without having the opportunity to try them both would be difficult due to the fact that both are so well regarded.
    Due to your review, I am able to decide to get the Vanquest. It comes down to the intangibles for me. How does it sit on your shoulder? How does it ride on your side? How does the construction of each Feel? Is the orange liner a gimmick or does it actually make a difference? Is the size difference really significant enough to worry about? How does all of that combined into a full package? Your review answered those questions very well. I am sure that I would have been happy with either one. As you said, They are both fantastic. But it is great to get the questions I had answered so thoroughly that I can make my purchase without second guessing my decision. Thank you for the great review.

      Michael Reed I still own and use several Maxped products but they are all at least 3 maybe 4 years old and still look and perform like they are brand new. I recently had a talk with someone that has lots of Maxped gear and many new items recently released, he told me the quality isn't what it used to be and that he feels Maxped is sort of relying on their reputation and just not putting into their products what they used to. If it's true it's rather sad, there's lots of new brands popping up and they (Vanquest as an example) are making really nice gear with name brand materials. If what I was told is true Maxpedition will find themselves in the back of the line. I recently bought several Vanquest pouches to use with my Mobius and the quality is superb. I could not be happier with Vanquest. Thank you for stopping by and taking the time to comment.

      ***** LOL, And now you have addressed the next question I have. Since free shipping is at $99, and I was wanting a pouch anyway, I was checking reviews on the pouches. If you happen to know what works well with the Mobius (size and configuration) please let us know. It isn't often that I get to buy more gear to save a little bit of money. Lol

    • @GearReviewDepot
      @GearReviewDepot  9 лет назад +1

      I think I purchased the PPM-SLIM: Personal Pocket Maximizer Organizer and also the PPM-HUSKY: Personal Pocket Maximizer Organizer, I could be wrong. They both are filled and fit in my Mobius perfectly. with a little room to spare. I'm actually making a video this weekend of both pouches and what I use them for.

    • @michaelreed649
      @michaelreed649 9 лет назад

      ***** Fantastic. I will be looking forward to seeing the video. I have subscribed after watching the first video and will watch it as soon as it is released. I think I will get the EDCM Husky and the PMP slim. That is mostly due to the perfect combination to get over $100.00. If any of the other work better for a real world application, please let me know.
      My other alternative it to get the Tolcat and the Mobius. That would be over $99 as well. If I do that I might splurge and buy one of the pouches as well since I will be ordering the rest and the shipping will be free but then the size will matter even more as to what I get. I am trying to save for the paramilitary II natural G-10 but seem to keep spending the money set aside for it's release. Lol

    Brilliant comparison thanks for sharing! Really like the coloured lining of the Vanquest pack, i have have some SpecOpsBrand kit and the coloured interior really helps with night time visibility, it's a shame that the Maxpedition don't consider that in their specification. Those Vanquest inverted zips are also a really useful feature. i've seen a review of the Maxpedition with a modified paracord grab handle and that looks like a really good mod. I would go and buy the Vanquest if it weren't for the position of the grab handle on the inside of the bag and the quality of the material hip facing surface. I note that the Maxpedition ships with a waist strap and think this might elimate the movement of the bag that you've noted. Useful note you made about the sliding of the shoulder strap, if i buy the Maxpedition, it's likely i'd tether that somehow to stop it irritating me like it did you! Would be interested to know how you are still getting on with the Vanquest with your video approaching 8 months old now, and if you have used either bag for carrying a water bladder, I understand the Maxpedition allows the bladder pipe to be routed up through the inside of the bag at the base of the strap. I wish you every success with the future of your channel, keep up the good work!

      The prices on Amazon will always be more expensive than just shopping on their website to make up for the fees Amazon charges their sellers. Also, there is absolutely no comparison between Vanquest and Maxpedition... the quality you get with Vanquest products are far superior than what you get with Maxpedition. I've had almost every single product from Maxpedition as well as most of the products from Vanquest and I'll take Vanquest any and every day. I'd rather pay more money for better quality.

    Maxpedition will outlast vanquest products. Vanquest has better organization incorporated into their designs. Do you choose robustness and durability? Or do you prefer more organization? That's essentially what it comes down to between maxpedition and vanquest. Me personally, I'll take the durability you get with maxpedition.

    • @GearReviewDepot
      @GearReviewDepot  3 года назад

      I've been reviewing gear for 11 years and started my channel with Maxpedition products and at the time they where the top dog. Maxpedition isn't the same company they where 10 years ago and neither are their products. Does Maxpedition make some good products? Absolutely... Far better than buying a backup at Walmart or some other cheap brands available today, but I'll always take a Vanquest product over a Maxpedition product every time. The guys that started Vanquest at one time worked at Maxpedition, for reasons I won't say here, they left and began their own brand. If you're happy with Maxpedition gear then use it and use it well, get out there, explore and create memories and I'll continue using Vanquest while I do the same. Whether you're using Maxpedition, Vanquest or a plastic garbage bag, as long as you're getting out and enjoying the outdoors. Be safe my friend.

    That air mesh material on the Vanquest bag is crap. I have had several bags (Vanquest, SwissGear and Maxpedition) with that exact same backing, and on every single one of them it has pilled up bad. I really wish companies would come up with something more durable to replace that damned air mesh. Oh, and it's a pain in the ass to keep clean too. Dust, sand, and all manner of crap likes to get into those holes.
