Everyone complains, but nothing is done to limit this trading. All they have to do is force a delay between trades to allow for the overall market to function.

It is scary that an artificial intelligence can understand that a crisis is an opportunity for financial gain. Who's to say that the program won't eventually talk to other AIs and cause an artificial crisis? It's only following the program.

If there was a Halo tournament for a run and a gun a type of a video game tournament and you were caught using a bot you would be banned.
This should be the exact same for financial high frequency trading..
You're not good enough to do it on your own you have to use bots?
It's not just losing a first person shooter tournament. It is dashing people's pensions savings and retirement..
    Explain that to me

I think it's cause "They" are market makers not retail traders, that have this access to the stock exchange facility

There is no reason for anyone to become a part owner of a company for milliseconds. There should be a minimum hold time of at least a few hours.

Why the hell would someone invest in transmitting data over the air vs fiber optics??? I am confused there...fiber optics transmit at the speed of light I dont think you can get much faster...be better off getting a fiber line in from an ISP....lol

There's a few reasons. 1. There's limited real estate and they are all paying insane money to get as close as physically possible. 2. Using airwaves instead of cables prevents other market makers from rerouting their trades out of spite. There was a market maker who was having his orders routed to exchanges farther away which caused his trades to be fractions of a second later than others. After discovering this, he set up "trap doors" for high frequency trades that would reroute them through a circuitous loop of wires to make them angry and keep them from filling their orders if they were obviously high frequency traders. There's multiple reasons tbh and it's kind of crazy. Some of it just down to physics and some is because of cost and trying to get priority while screwing over competitors if possible.

Actually in a fibreoptic cable light travels in a mode called total internal reflection meaning that light bounces off the interal walls of the cable as it propagates forward. Therefore in a fibreoptic cable light has further to travel than compared with a perfectly straight line in air. Also the speed of light in glass (which is what fibreglass is) is a bit slower than in a vacuum or air. So overall there really is a perceptible speed advantage in HF trading for light travelling in air rather than in a fibreoptic cable.
