    As a former WDW Cast Member, there is an interesting park hack that very few know of when it starts to pour down. Find a custodial cast member and ask for one of the massive garbage bags. They will often gladly give you one, and they are as large as a Poncho.
    Also, the umbrella is good to carry even on hot sunny days. It can protect you from the sun as well as the rain.

    Preschool kids here in Japan clip their raincoat hoods to the visor of their hats to prevent their hoods from blowing off their heads leaving them wet when walking to school on rainy days. You can use a regular laundry clip or even a heavy-duty paper clip and clip it right in the front where your hood overlaps your hat visor. We've already packed some along with our raincoats for our upcoming WDW trip.

    I was at Disney World a few years ago. We got one of those 20-minute afternoon storms. My brother in law from Illinois kind of freaked out. I said just wait 20 minutes. And we'll be fine. The park cleared out, and we continued our day of fun! He was amazed. I guess they don't have 20 minute rainstorms in Illinois!

    • @shereadsmysteries

      I would guess Illinois is similar to Ohio in that, while weather is often changeable, when it rains it tends to rain and mist all day and is miserable 😂

    • @OklahomaCoasterFan
      @OklahomaCoasterFan Год назад

      Oklahoma has also never heard of 20-minute rainstorms. If it rains, it keeps on raining for 20 hours minimum. Our weather can change instantly and dramatically, but after that change, you're stuck with that weather for a very long time.

      Former cast member from Illinois here. Yeah, we usually get an entire day or half-day of rain when it rains here. When I first started working at the parks, the 20-minute rainstorm was insane to me. I eventually got used to it and made sure to always bring an umbrella when I was visiting the parks on my days off. Rain OR shine, lol.

    I was at SSR for Hurricane Ian last year. I had ordered food in advance and went to Disney Springs the night before shut down to get more provisions. I have to say that I always felt safe. I hunkered down in my room with Netflix for two days and it was just fine. The cast members were all fabulous and did the best that they could. My heart went out to the gulf coast as I watched the destruction on tv.

    TL:DR: We we’re staying at a resort, and the Disney Magic made us forget anything was going on.
    Wewere staying at AKL in September 2022 when the storms came through in the middle of the week. The parks closed for a couple days, but our girls had no idea anything was going on- they’d probably tell you those were the best days of the whole trip. One day was already planned as a resort day, and we were able to move the other park day to the second planned resort day. This included moving a Bippity Boppity reservation when it had just reopened. All of the resort staff were phenomenal. Concierges were experts on reservation shuffling. The lifeguards became camp counselors/party hosts. They hosted a pajama party dance night in the lobby with surprise cameos from Mickey and Minnie that we will never forget. Sanaa buffet was half-priced, and we got a walk-in table at Jiko the second night. Never would have planned the trip this way, but I wouldn’t change anything looking back.

    not only rain, but on your weather app, watch for lightening…set up to get lightening alerts, maybe from 20 miles out…outdoor rides will shut down when lightning is a certain distance from the park (Cast Members have told me 11 miles and 15 miles which is why I set up alerts for 20 miles away). Also, if adults only on your trip or if your kiddos will be accepting of it, if the rain is headed in and looks on the radar and weather apps to be only temporary…an incoming storm may be a good time to head back to the resort for some rest, especially if you are planning on staying to closing time…one trip where a hurricane was hitting the Florida panhandle and WDW was getting the rain bands, my afternoon naps were great at keeping me in out of some fairly heavy rains. There is still magic when the weather fights againast it!!

    Thank you, AJ. I find it interesting that now the “low crowd” period in Disney World is August through mid-September, excluding Labor Day. Of course this is also the time with the greatest risk of hurricanes! I went solo around September 8-13, 2004, which I booked in great ignorance - and was very lucky. There were four hurricanes impacting Disney World that August-September and my trip dodged them all. Crowd levels were what people would now consider low.

I contacted Southwest they changed our flight out without fees or any problems. Went to front desk to extend stay by one day no help was told they could not extend any rooms until that Thursday. On Thursday we did get an extension. No discounts no help. Needed to make park reservations for that Friday. Was told could at 8pm that night. Used the app tried until the app froze could not get reservations. Called the number given that should provide help on hold over 3 hours and no help told to go to park and talk to quest relations. This meant I could not schedule my genie at 7 am. After waiting in a long long line got into the park. There was no magic in this trip.
