Hi Jake!!! That was my tree!! I'm the chip lady 😁. I just wanted to say that i love your videos. I'm lucky that one of the crew members shared your channel with me when you came to my house. I've been eagerly awaiting you to upload this video. I was just so impressed with how skilled you all are and how much you clearly just love your jobs. I'm not kidding when I say my husband and I wanted to quit our jobs and do your job after watching you. I've been working on my fear of heights for years now. I'm pretty sure I would never make it and I'm getting old now, but I can live vicariously through your channel. I read your story with Eastside tree works and I wish you the best in this new endeavor. I will share this with my family and friends. Thanks again for making the video and for coming by to take down my tree. You guys rock ♥️

Good job Jake! I like that you are showing different techniques for bringing down these trees. Different types of trees in different areas will necessarily require different approaches, different tools etc. You are adding to your skill set by doing these trips, and taking the kids on road trips is SO SO important when they are small. I hope it pencils out for you financially to keep doing this, the kidlets will have these memories forever.

@@Tanks_In_Space I really doubt the species will adapt to attack other trees. The bark and cambium of ash is very specific in attribution to allow the borer to thrive there. Other trees lack the qualities the borer needs to survive. We won’t see the emerald ash borers attack other trees within the next few centuries.

I did quite a bit of research on the EMARLD -ASH-INSECT -BORER. I discovered that, it has $$$$$$, cost, $$$$$$$, }}3 the Canadian government and our American government over $1 billion in damages. Here in NW MONTANA, it has wiped out nearly all of our entire emerald ash trees!! here is one of the main things I discovered.
“In the summer of 2002, scientists realized that widespread damage to ash (Fraxinus) in southern Michigan was caused by an introduced insect, the emerald ash borer (Agrilus planipennis) (Federal Register, October 14, 2003, Volume 68, Number 198).
The pest is thought to have been established in Michigan for at least 10 years by the time of its discovery (Siegert, 2006) and had already infested a large area in Michigan and adjacent Ontario. “
“Due to a combination of factors, including both the biological and human dimensions of infestation and dispersal pathways, the pest spread into surrounding states and provinces despite many different attempts to contain it. As of 2021, EAB is found in 35 states and 5 Canadian provinces.
And, outbreaks sometimes emerge at sites hundreds of miles from the nearest known location (including Boulder Colorado and Winnipeg Manitoba) - indicating that infested wood continues to be moved despite state regulations, international regulations, and extensive outreach campaigns.”
“ In Europe, EAB was first detected in Moscow, in European Russia in 2003. As of 2021, EAB is established in one province in Ukraine and 18 oblasts of European Russia, especially to the west of Moscow towards the borders with Belarus and Ukraine (Musolin et al. 2021).
In Moscow, initial damage was greatest on the introduced North American species, green ash (Fraxinus pennsylvanica); however, by 2021 mass mortality was observed to European as (F. excelsior) as well (Volkovitsh, Bienkowski and Orlova-Bienkowskaja, 2021).”
“Two disjunct populations of EAB have been detected 400-500km from Moscow. The first detection, in 2019, was in southwest Russia and eastern Ukraine, which may be correlated with the planting of F. excelsior and F. pennsylvanica along roads, and railways.
“Furthermore, along field shelter belts, and urban forests (Musolin et al. 2021). The second disjunct population is near St. Petersburg, only 130km from the borders of Estonia and Finland; it was detected in September 2020.
New outbreaks and infestations of emerald ash borer are announced sporadically. To find current information on locations (and the status of each state, province, and county), it is best to go to Emeraldashborer.info or access their current map, which is typically updated on a monthly basis.
Canadian provinces are also included on this location map, with confirmed infestations now ranging from New Brunswick to Manitoba. In general, EAB infestations in North America are slowly advancing westward.”

Typical summer day in Montana...been there, done that, but love it though. I'm 78, ground-bound and down and watching your videos makes glad I'm through climbing. Fun while it lasted though. Hope you took home a lot of cheese and beer from Wisconsin though. Storytime: once on a tree up 80 foot or so, wind started whipping, told the guy on the ground to get his raincoat, he said "why, its not raining?...I told him "it's not rain you need to worry about!"

That was one super slick operation. In the UK, a job using that size of machinery would involve so much unnecessary paperwork, closing off the road, risk assessment / method statement and numerous meetings, the tree would have aged, rotted away and fallen on the house and so the process starts over again. Meetings, paperwork, investigation, insurance disputes, the list is endless.
The video was a joy to watch.

Emerald Ash borers decimated most of our ash trees in the NE and after a year of being dead, trying to piece them down with the Sennebogen is like grabbing a log that’s been rotting on the ground for 5 years. Can never be delicate enough to grab it without something falling off

Yeah, here in MA, Ash are getting smashed. I had (7) in my yard alone, anywhere from 10" to 20" dia. After making firewood with about 2 or 3, I decided to try my hand at an Alaskan mill. From those cuts I made (4) raised garden beds and some 4x4 posts for leveling a lift I rented for taking down a couple dead ash at a neighbor's house. Great video Jacob! Especially nice to see you able to share the adventure with your family.

Yeah we have huge ash and cotton woods in the Madison area. In addition to ash borer we have oak wilt problems. When trees get hit they deteriorate really quickly. A couple years ago I took down a large oak in my front yard and could only climb so high because the top was so rotted out and it had only been dead about 2 years. Once you get out to the western part of the state it's not such a flat land.

I'm glad to see nice wide deciduous trees with large limbs rather than trunk & twigs, which isn't bad; just good for contrast. It's really sad what's happening to these ash trees. I've read that over 50 million trees have died from the Emerald Ash Borer. I cut far more ash than any other species because of this.
