- Lakshadweep, the group of 36 islands is known for its exotic and sun-kissed beaches and lush green landscape. Now, it has become the talk of the world after Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the land of Corals. PM Modi shared his experiences from Lakshadweep and thanked the people of the islands for their hospitality. Photos of PM Modi snorkeling, walking on white sand, and resting on a virgin beach have gone viral. Prime Minister Modi’s post on social media has promoted a massive surge in Google searches. On January 05, ‘Narendra Modi’ and ‘Lakshadweep’ were the 10th most searched words on Google in India. The name Lakshadweep in Malayalam and Sanskrit means ‘a hundred thousand islands’. It is India’s smallest UT; Lakshadweep is an archipelago consisting of 36 islands with an area of 32 sq km. It comprises of 12 atolls, three reefs, five submerged banks and ten inhabited islands. Natural landscapes, sandy beaches, abundance of flora and fauna enhance mystique of Lakshadweep. Now, the Kochi-Lakshadweep Optical Fiber Project has increased internet speed by 100 times. Maldives may be the perfect tourist spot, but PM Modi’s vision for Lakshadweep will give you an alternative. PM Modi’s focus in Lakshadweep is to uplift the lives of the people through enhanced development. The Central Government plans to make Lakshadweep a major tourist hub like Maldives. PM Modi Govt has infused more than Rs 1,150 crore to enhance Lakshadweep’s infrastructure. For the first time since independence, Lakshadweep connected through Submarine Optic Fibre Cable. The dedicated submarine OFC will ensure a paradigm shift in communication infrastructure in Lakshadweep. Lakshadweep is situated just north of the Maldives, 400 kilometers west of mainland India. For the tourists who wish to embrace the adventurer in them, Lakshadweep has to be on their list.

I was planning for a maldives vacation in march.. Now I have changed my plan.
Please do keep in mind that we are not there yet in terms of infrastructure, so hotels and services might not be as great but this shift is certainly needed. As soon as the footfall increases the rest will come up as well.
