Trust me, the arcade version of T2 is much harder. Especially since you can actually change it to Ultra Hard in the debug menu. Going through that version on the hardest difficulty would take up to an hour or more. Especially the Kazuya & Devil boss stages.
Yeah, I remember back in the day at one arcade I was used to play, the somehow managed to modify the game to force players to re-do the Kazuya fight if they lose against Devil, making things way much harder (and of course, they had the game on the hardest settings, on one machine they even DISABLED the ability to continue the game if you lose a match).
@@crack4184 Some arcade operators who wanted nothing more than torture players by forcing them to restart to square one, eventually players got used to that that the no continues setting wasn't needed to be enabled anymore on that arcade center, and in case you're wondering, every game that had that no continue setting, they activated that for at least 1 machine while putting it to the max difficulty settings (yeah, gotta love in Metal Slug for example to have a single credit with a single live for the ENTIRE game while they intentionally disabled P-2 inputs to force game overs when you get hit sooner or later in the game and other type of shenanigans).
I have some videos on my channel playing the arcade version. The defense that the AI has is very frustrating. I prefer a thousand times to play the hard version of PSX.
That Kazuya AI could've been much cheaper. I remember it likes to randomly throw out the fast unblockable, and also do the 10-string route that ends with the fast unblockable.

This is still easy mode compared to the arcade version of the game. They made the ai a lot easier in the console version. Making them do 10 strings which can leave them vulnerable if you know what you're doing.
Bro, you didn't do Paul's unblockable once!! After doing the F,F Kick combo, most large characters (Jack, Kuma) will eat it immediately. With regards to the PS version - THAT intro with THAT music. Is nothing short of amazing for character introductions
These old games were full of surprises. I remember my little cousin and I just button mashed on the select screen on Tekken 2 one day to be funny and somehow our characters had big heads and little bodies. Lol
Back when I played this game, we didn't have terminology like "whiff punish" or "safe on block". I just said Jun was "wide open" if you blocked her Down+LK+RK (Double Lift Kicks). Nowadays, I learned how to say "her D+3+4 is minus on block". 👍
Kazuya's AI in the arcade port will do nothing but input read you, while in the PS1 port, he'll spam 10 hit combos. Use to own this game back in the good old PS1 days, looking back at it now, it hasn't aged well graphic wise.
I remember making a 100% combo with Heihachi, but it's been so long I forgot what it was. I think it was: df12, uf+3,4, qcf+1(or 2),run to run over their prone body.

You don't know this game well Justin, what is "cheap" the alpha arcade version where all Beak has to do is the jump triple kick (guard breaks) then followed by unblockable (you can never get up in time). You want to play a hard mode? Try using Lee, fight every character 3 rounds and see what Heihachi does to you as sub boss then you'll know.
back flipped my way to 10th stage with law at least a million times as a kid or randomly mashed three ring circus... I thought somersaults and Jun target combos were safe literally had no idea how to play neutral as a child, I love Jun/Michelle
The downside to playing as Paul is you don't get to hear Paul's epic theme music. Back in the day, this was such an impressive PSX to have before Tekken 3 came out.
The easiest way I've found to beat Nina with Paul in Tekken 2 is to bait her into using Blonde Bomb then punish with Phoenix Smasher. But you have to glide as far as you can with the qcf in Phoenix Smasher or you will whiff. Great nostalgia vid!
Tekken 2 on Hard Difficulty made my homeboy throw the PS1 controller on the ground, then he did a stop, drop 'n roll back and forth, then made him scream out of frustration that had my dying laughing to tears. I've gotten to Devil personally but couldn't beat the game because it's ridiculous. It's on par or worse with SNK fighting game's cheap AI when it comes to single player. 🤣

To be fair... the Ps1 version is easier than revision Beta of the Arcade version, but yeah, at max difficulty is hard (again, not like the arcade version, but still challenging). I hope Justin gets a chance to play the Arcade version (in the Ps2 version of Tekken 5 you can play it) because on that is were he will know the true meaning of Tekken 2 pain... as long as he play the revision Beta.

The 1st full Tekken game I played. My first time ever with Tekken was the demo of 3 which was on the demo disc that came with my PS1 and then I rented 2. 3 is the 1st Tekken I bought with money from my first ever job when I was 16. Tekken 1 is harder than 2.

My biggest rage comes from this game. Back in days i remember to open de console, take the cd and throw it through the window. This game is a master piece but make people vary salty. Good to see Justin take a chance to this game in ps version. You got lucky cuz not face Lee (can obtain winning the game with some char, i don't remember which one)...that char goes into infinit. its a pain in the @ss. Also laser from Devil is mega cheap. I think you need to keep playing that game and try Tekken 3 too. Cheers.
Probably one of my favorite games of all time. I'd main Paul or Kazuya, but would also use Jun due to her seemingly infinite combo although it does have breaks in it where an opponent can block (zQqYLLCJgl4). King does have a 1-hit ko grab in here which is fun. But yeah, the best strategy I've seen is get good at blocking everything then just counter attack with a strong attack. Alternatively attempt to knock out opponents with some strong attacks, but then if they block you're defenseless. I'd often just go through my 10-hit combos to burn through opponents. And the computer can be good at blocking and counter attacking. This was an awesome game even when tekken 3 came out. I'd rotate between the two often. But once tekken tag and tekken tag 2 came out, omg so much fun!

Man my first time playing this game was with Heihachi. I was doing well (Jack and Lee kind of gave me trouble a little bit), that is, until I got to Jun. And I don’t know why, but Jun has to be one of the worst fighters to go up against in later stages. I mean Jesus she just kept kicking my ass. She was a bigger problem than Kazuya (And I beat him on my first try).

I loved Tekken 2. The game single handedly got me back in the arcades and back into fighting games.
Tekken 2 was such a great leap from one I played for hours.
Hell yeah, what a throwback. I forgot Tekken 2 had borderline SamSho levels of damage, two hits takes like 50% of your health.
In Tekken 2, the duck jab and low frame while standing attacks were OP. They were key to stopping the CPU before they started ten hits.

I'm not big on 3d fighters but just like you I used to love getting all the endings and beating it with everyone to unlock everyone! Id love to see you do them all on hardest lol
You're not the wrong Justin. The damage balancing is waaaaay off. Then again as we already know, a lot of classic fighting games are like this. Not to mention the input reading. The gawd damn input reading. 😑🤣
tekken 2 might be the fighting game I can confidently say I can hold my ground against justin wong.
All this time I thought it wass me, that I just sucked ass on T2, this video saved my soul.
Man my first time playing this game was with Heihachi. I was doing well (Jack and Lee kind of gave me trouble a little bit), that is, until I got to Jun. And I don’t know why, but Jun has to be one of the worst fighters to go up against in later stages. I mean Jesus she just kept kicking my ass. She was a bigger problem than Kazuya (And I beat him on my first try).
Love love love this game.. Gotta find some more old school games.
