The smaller Creepers were more powerful because when they blow up a majority of the damage that they radiate normally is directed at the players feet. Since they're so small, you guys were getting more of the damage that radiates out from the explosion directed toward you.
You could probably do something like the game Grounded with the Pehkui mod and maybe some other mod that lets you build tiny structures (I can't recall the name of that one mod that lets you "carve out" "bits" of a block)
My favorite way to use IP is with TARDIS mods. It's absolutely mindbending to actually see the BOTI effect with it, and it's the best way I can. there's a good BOTI effect built into the AIT mod, but it only works with NVIDIA GPUs and I only have an AMD GPU.
