Where I live the audiologists seem to only want to sell you hearing aids rather than pair you with what you
    need for your hearing loss.
The audiologist I used to see was complaining about me wanting an adjustment done on my hearing aids.
We are sitting in the room and my aids are hooked up to the computer and then she tells me I need
to talk so we can make an adjustment.
I told them I need to hear someone else talking not me talking, how was that going to help.
This turned into a full blown up argument as they gave me a real attitude about it all.
That was the last time seeing that audiologist.

Dr. Cliff - Thank you for posting these videos. I have had prescription hearing aids for well over 3 years and I have never had a speech in noise test or real ear measurement. You have made me a more educated consumer.

Wow, I had no idea this was possible. I’ve had hearing aids for 10 years and my audiologist has never mentioned this. Thank you very much. I will investigate this immediately.🙏🏻

Thanks for stating that 10dB is a perceived doubling of volume. This is HUGELY misunderstood. Years of noise measurement in the auto industry was based on reducing noise elements by single dB, or even fractions of a dB, to pass a test. And people would think they could actually hear that!
Three dB is a barely perceivable change. The scale is so very misunderstood. Thanks for your frequent clarifications of such misunderstandings!

I am on my second set of hearing aids,by a different provider within ent office. I have never heard this.Great info.I did not know I had hearing loss until I was in the middle of a noisy restaurant for significant work meal. I realized I could only hear the person sitting next to me,even tough the dinner with her was great ,I was so embarrassed,I could not follow what the person at head of table said and so relieved she did not ask me a question! awful.

Very helpful. I have a meeting with my Audiologist in two days to explore the possibility to add a Roger On to my Phonak Lumity aids to improve background hearing…. Do you think this might help?

Why and how real ear measurements are so important, specialy compared to open field tests (i.e.: test using speakers while wearing your hearing aids in an acoustic cabin). At the end of the day, it's not about decibels in your ear, it's about your brain interpretation of the acoustic signal.

This is totally depressing! I had to look back to when I actually had an SNR test and only one practitioner preformed that test. My right ear was 26dB , left 15 dB, at the time of the test in 2021. Working as a flight attendant is supremely challenging. Was thinking I need custom ear molds, but now might have to find go back to the clinic that actually did that SNR test!

Question for Dr. Olson: Can you offer some thoughts on hearing at a decent volume but clarity is compromised? This happened to me following a SSHL.

It would be nice to hear your thoughts on clients with SNR scores above 10, who have poor to very poor WRS bilaterally.

My test says QuickSIN AD 5.5 SNR 50 at 70db HL. and a similar row of numbers for AS. What level of hearing aids can help with this? Like do I need to go with AI, molded ear inserts, etc? The otc and basic phonak I have tried dont help me in background noise situations.

Are analog IIC aids, like the Lyrics, good enough for an SNR loss score of 5? Can they use REM?

I’m a little confused. I’m looking at my audiogram and i am not sure what it is telling me. I am not a numbers person but i could be looking at the numbers. Maybe it’s too early in the morning and i need an extra dose of Dr. Pepper I will review the results again.

I do not hear Speech with background sounds around me and it all blends together and I am not able to hear the Speech at all. I think that I need it Amplified a lot more to hear it. My Audiologist gave me Hearing Aids that makes the background sounds around me less to hear Speech. I Tested low in the Hearing Testing and he knew that I was not Hearing Speech. Some people have softer voice speaking too I think because even when they right next to me I still do not hear some sounds of Speech from them and it would need to be Amplified a lot more to hear some sounds of Speech. In Groups I really do not know if someone is speaking to me or to someone else because I am not able to hear it but I know that they must be talking.

You have a high-end HA and most likely they've been programmed to Phonak fitting rationale. Ask your audiologist to reprogram your HA's to NAL-NL2 targets (a validated hearing loss prescription) AND perform REM, that it's guaranteed you'll hear better!

In Spain they have the hardware and they use to perform any test I ask for. They haven't done it to me, however, because they rather go for open field test and I think it makes sense.
