- We purchased the The Original AirBedz Truck Bed Air Mattress w/ Tailgate Extension Mattress for $229.88 from Amazon. And! It definitely wasn't worth the price. In this unboxing and review video, we're sharing why this pittman air mattress product is not the best, and we're offering tips on making this mattress work...in case you bought one and are having the same problems we are. Come along!

1) It comes with a electric pump, yet you manually tried inflating it and then complain about the noise of the manual pump. I'd think you'd see the benefit in that they provide both manual and electric, but instead you complain about it making noise. 2) The company makes 5 distinct sizes to fit a myriad of truck beds. It doesn't claim it'll be a perfect fit, but still you had extra room on all sides. When you measured your truck bed, you measured the width from the inside space of the tailgate opening which is inset a couple inches on each side. So, is it possible your ordered the wrong size based on incorrectly measuring the bed? FYI any electric pump will deflate when the pump is inoperable and it's switched to inflate/deflate. I'm surprised that neither you or your husband knew that. I have to say your review taught me more about the good aspects of the air mattress than bad.
@Shane H Thank you for commenting. 🙂 Our concern with this purchase is 1) the internal pump was inoperable and 2) the mattress we ordered came with a tailgate section that did not connect to the mattress as it should have. I'm glad our review was helpful to you in that you prefer the product more after seeing our experience. 🌻
Thanks for the video. I was actually looking at purchasing one of these and have now decided I will continue searching for something different. If the company had any sort of decent quality control, there's no way the mattress makes it to shipping with either of those 2 major problems (broken electric pump, locking extender nubs).
+1TUFZUK Yes. Definitely keep looking. And I would appreciate a head's up if you find a better option. Having the extended mattress allows us to have the children comfortably sharing our space. If this whole set-up had been $50 and the quality was shoddy, fine. The high price makes it so much worse. (And we have tried to get the battery pack to work using different outlets to charge it, still nothing.) The material used in the construction is high quality. So, there's that. 🙄

Hi, I wanted to get back with you after receiving my airbed. I had the same issue with the battery not working. I used my old air pump to inflate the mattress. With nothing to lose I decided to be more aggressive with pushing the battery in to be sure I had a good contact. I heard a click like if it snapped into place and the pumped worked fine. I would suggest trying pressing in firmly as hard as you can and see if that helps.
@Michael Mitchell Thank you for sharing this. It didn't occur to us that you might be able to force a better connection with the battery. I'm glad that you had success. :) We sent back the mattress in this video and haven't ordered a replacement yet, but I will keep this in mind. We appreciate you.

@Michael Mitchell Thank you. We have not been offered a reduced rate for a replacement from the company that makes airbedz mattresses, but I am going to see if they are discounted online after Thanksgiving. I hope to have an updated review in the new year. 🙂
This is how were camping but I have a camper shell w my wife and I along w 2 kids 6 & 7. Looks like they sent you guys the wrong mattress cuz I got one for my Ram and it fits snug to the whole bed. Good video.
@Frank Bowman Nice! 😎 I found the sizing chart confusing and accidentally ordered the wrong size. But! I was seriously disappointed that the mattress and the extender set we ordered didn't match up and couldn't be connected. The mismatching pieces and dead battery really spoiled my view of this product. It's good to know that other folks have had a better experience than we did.
@@BeingBarton I didn't get the fancy one w the battery pack cuz I never trust those things so I just bring a jump box and electric pump. Glad I didn't spend the extra on the battery pack type. Hope you next trip is much better

You guys ordered the wrong size mattress, but there is no excuse for the inflation unit or the tailgate piece to not function
@CaptainRon1913 Yeah, we went with the wrong size. And it cost us $30+ to return it...we finally got the refund after waiting 6 weeks and asking Amazon to reach out to the seller after out attempts to reach them failed. When we order a replacement (in the correct size) we hope it will work out much better.
probaly a pice of tape on the prongs to prevent self discharging
I'm going to get the one you can still find them on Amazon for my truck that has the DC power cord for your cigarette lighter plug it in that and then deflate and inflate I would call Pittman outdoors and have them send you another battery pack I have an AC powered one made by Intex for at home that you plug in the wall and hit inflate deflate so you turn to deflate and turn on the pump and it sucks all the air out so you can bag it up
@Eric McAlee Mcalee Hi. The Pittman folks offered to send us a replacement battery. We declined. The tailgate section did not line up with the mattress we received, and so we sent the mattress back for a refund. It cost us something like $35 to return this purchase. I hope that you have a better experience than we did. 🌻
Actually I bought one and it didn't inflate the first time. I actually had to tap on the pump and it started up. (-;

Have any of you guys found a better one yet? Im looking to get one but it seems that people are having issues with most brands
@Adam Yoder The company that makes this mattress...Pittman Outdoors...they reached out to us, and we are hoping to do an updated video in the near future. Per Pittman, there is an issue with the distribution of this mattress (and an issue with the original battery design). My hope is that we will have better results with product that comes directly from Pittman. If that's the case, I would suggest to people that you buy direct and expect the company to swiftly and professionally correct any issues.

I've been studying air mattresses.... they all have good reviews and bad reviews. I can't find one with all acceptable reviews. I do like the heavy duty appearance of this one. I'm gonna study this one a bit more.
@Alabama Woodsman I would recommend that. The company who makes this mattress is Pittman Outdoors. They reached out to us, and a representative kindly explained why they have had issues and how the bad reviews have come in part as a bi-product of selling through distributors. When folks buy direct, there's a better chance of getting excellent customer service if the product is defective for some reason. We're hoping to post an updated review with a replacement product soon. I hope this helps. My recommendation would be to buy direct if you can. 🌼
@froadin09 This mattress featured in our video is defective, period. The battery pack does not charge, and the sections that are designed to lock together are not even close to being aligned. That said, we have returned this mattress and will be purchasing a replacement in the correct size for our vehicle directly from the manufacturer. Because the mattress material is top notch, we expect good things from the replacement. I am thrilled to warn people...if you buy from Amazon, you will have to pay the $30+ fee to return your mattress if it is damaged or defective, and you may end up waiting the 6 weeks that we have waited to see your return. I'm glad that you have had a more positive experience and we appreciate your comment.
I've had mine for a year now with no issues. You have to read the instructions carefully though. Never overcharge or drain the battery completely or it will become defective and take it out after filling/releasing. Pretty simple but most people don't read the instructions and ruin their battery.
@Mantis Life The company who manufactures these mattresses reached out to us and explained that it's not uncommon for third party vendors to store the mattresses in a way that ruins the batteries...we were offered a replacement, which I appreciate. If we didn't also have issues with the mattress extender section not aligning properly with the mattress, it wouldn't have been a fatal flaw. We returned the mattress and just received the refund in the past week. Hopefully a replacement mattress will be amazing. A video of our return experience is in the works. @froadin09 Thanks for posting this. I have the PPI-103 arriving at my door tomorrow for my brand new Honda Ridgeline. Kinda wished I'd waited, since this mattress will eat up the entire floor of the bed, with no room for a fan, etc. But more importantly, it needs to work right! Since they want so much $$$ for restocking and shipping if I send it back, it makes more sense to accept the mattress and see how it works.
I'm not impressed with that mattress. Quality looks good but sizing is too generic. Also the failure of the pump for that money...I'll pass.
Zulbak Yeah, it's such a strange thing to me...to put so much attention into the fabric and construction but then fail hard on overall design and function. 😐
It definitely was not the right size mattress for that truck. The added piece is for the tailgate which comes with the short box trucks and it’s not as wide as the mattress so it will fit on the tailgate.

Bed measurements are taken from inside the bed walls, not the the tailgate opening. You measured wrong and ordered the wrong size. As far as the battery, the battery “snaps” into place. You weren’t pushing hard enough on the battery to lock it into place. Reading the instructions would have told you this. These are by far the best mattresses on the market, yall just made a few mistakes.

Probably I would offer tips to others, too...if I had been correct in ordering the right size, and the battery worked, and the tailgate section lined up with the mattress. We appreciate your comment!
Probably would have worked the first time if you didn't have a bad attitude to start.
@BigBass Crawdaddy Hi. Sometimes attitude can really be a factor when there is a challenge to overcome. Maybe there was some attitude present here? 🤔 I didn't think so, but you found some...some fair enough. I was really REALLY disappointed in this purchase. The size of the product we purchased wasn't the best for our truck. But that wasn't my issue. The battery never charged. The extension didn't connect to the mattress. It was just not what I hoped for.
