Akon Offends Black Americans In Recent Interview

  • Akon recently conducted an interview on the Zeze Millz show. Akon alluded to African artists having more stage presence and Black American artists are just high all the time. We all know that's easy to debunk, but Akon's issue is his inferiority complex.

One, final comment I have about this Akon issue; as I've stated earlier in other comments, both Black Africans, Black Americans alike have have overall developmental+social and/or economic issues that they likely need to resolve. The seemingly advantage that Akon and the like have is: from his earliest youth+birthright he has a place that he uniquely can call home (Senegal), he has a home based language (Wolof) with the secondary official+sectional country languages of French, Bambara or Melinke/Mande (likely Akon is trilingual, speaking all English French and Wolof). Lastly, he still has a connecting culture that is uniquely West African style of life. All peoples of the Earth, regardless of their personal ethnicity, tend to unite and sacrifice their individuality (not necessarily because they are deeply in love with each other [yet, also possible too]) but as foreigners amongst other large nationalities or populations they do have the sense of: "we have to have our own masterly way of surviving while here or there amongst these other people. It's not surprising that you will see certain groups of ethnicities/people 'holding down' certain job areas or positions of life that people in general recognize them as Leaders of. All said, foreigners have that sense of we got to have our own niche or speciality whereas black americans typically don't think like that. You even have people of other cultures who will try to take the credit for originating and being the only professionals of a selected lifestyle, duty or job area. As Rick James used to say in so many words: "black americans always become lazy at what they do (complacency) as opposed to professionally maintaining whatever it is they originate." Ironically, the surprising thing that black americans have started doing is revolting against things that they recognize as being cruel or encroaching.

Yes, I agree many “African” celebrities are jealous of the fact that Black American culture dominates internationally. Our culture is copied on every continent: jazz, R&B, soul, hip-hop, rap, pop, rock & roll, blues, gospel, and the style, the actors, writers, playwrights, and then the leaders: Muhammad Ali, Richard Wright, Dr. Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, the list can go on and on. Black Americans are the center of “Blackness” in the world, and some just hate that fact.

Hmmm, maybeee. Have you ever heard of the Guadeloupean scientist who revolutionized the nuclear industry? Did you know that you can have fast internet today because of a Nigerian Igbo inventor? What you're saying is partially true. Music and art are something that blacks are fundamentally gifted in. The reason why you've seen so much progress in America is because the Africans were colonized during the time that black Americans were developing their art. Black American music has actually been heavily influenced by white America's culture. Let's take jazz as an example. The cello is not a black American instrument. Blacks had to witness whites playing those instruments and copy them the best they know how. That means in their own "African" framework. That gave birth to jazz, blues, gospel etc. Without the "African framework" you would not have black American music and art. It just like blacks speaking English in with an African accent and calling it Ebonics. Trust me, the American negro accent, the Jamaican accent, the Haitians' French accent are all white languages spoken within an "African framework." There nothing exceptional about black Americans just like there is no American exceptionalism. Obama explained that during his debate with Romney. America got ahead of the world because the whole world was destroyed during WWII. That enabled them to dominate, develop markets, and prop up their world order. Black Americans should pay attention to the continent the same way whites and Asians are. The new genres of music will emerge out of Africa as the new resources that power our technologies. Don't get involved in those petty discussions. Be curious about your origins and collaborate to bring the world into an African universe.

The one aspect of this entire issue is the fact that these people have no problem coming to the FBA community to learn their craft, build their fortunes as well as become the most successful they ever could be, then once they reach their plateau, they flip the script and instantly begin dumping on the very people that made them the people that have become......aka 'US'. This includes not just those that gave them their start or included them in their cast, shows etc, but those of us that came to the venues that they appeared in and bought tickets to see the movies they played in as well as gave them all the support they ever had to reach their highest goals. Yet, in all that 'WE have done to put their names on the map, our appreciation is thrown out the window and we are the subjects of their hate and vitriol. So since this is the method in which the game is played, let us learn from our mistake and begin outing all non FBA's that are attempting to make a dime off our backs and allow them to get theirs the same way we did. They also have the option of going to the same white supremacist that they love and make themselves successful.Let's see just how well that works!

@Phillip Scott Experience: I heard about this issue this morning. Akon is misinformed about our people here in america. Our people in america derive from the diaspora, so we are ONE PEOPLE. Miseducation(through the media) , and white men that pit us against each other. The slave trade is the biggest atrocity known to mankind, and so it should not be dismissed. Im a diaspora brother myself(igbo) and grew up with, and understand our people in america's plight. The bible says "gather yourselves together o ye nation NOT desired"(zephaniah 2:1). That message from the Highest is for blacks here and in the diaspora/latinos/n.americans , because truth be told we are not a desired people in this land. We must have patience with one another. Peace
