They got me replacing a engine on a newer Touareg. Never done it. This video has been very helpful. Got literally it almost ready to be put on the table in about 30 mins. Thanks 👍 Hopefully the rest is smooth
Hello. This video has been a great textbook for me. So my question is, how is the water box directly under the front window, i.e. 7L6819401J, fixed on the back side where I cannot see directly? Is it possible to remove it by inserting a tool?
It was out prior by another mechanic that did timing chains. The chain is on the rear of the engine so the gearbox was also removed at the previous repair, and prior to that there was no transmission leak from the torque converter seal. So likely the mechanic allowed the converter to walk off the input shaft and nicked the seal whilst seperating the engine and trans on the previous repair. Plus that messed up bolt which was a huuuuge pain.
Good video, thanks mate! I'm looking at buying a 2008 Q7 and trying to do as much research as i can to see if all the hype around expensive parts and hard to work on is true. What do you think of working on it? A car worth getting?
All depends on prior maintenance. I would recommend getting a pre purchase inspection on one you're keen on prior to handing over the money. Get a well known trusted specialist to check it out for you. I'd recommend the 3.0tdi over the other engine variants. The 3.6 petrol has timing chain issues, the 4.2fsi petrol have heaps of oil leaks to lool out for, the 4.2tdi diesel have turbo failures amd are just more overly complex requiring the engine to be removed for repairs. The 3.0tdi diesel can look to have rear main oil seal leaks that are often misdiagnosed as that, yet it's ofter oil leaking from the breather housing that bolts onto the turbo inlet. This is because the intercoolers haven't been drained at every other service and are filling up with breather oil. The gearbox plugs can leak ATF through into the wiring harness amd actually fill the transmission ecu with ATF if left long enough, so it's worth unplugging the wiring plugs at the pre purchase inspection amd at every service to see if it's an issue. Lower control arm bushings and ball joints are also a wear point on a vehicle this age. The q7 qears through tyres pretty quickly too, like most SUV models. I'm sure if you have a lift that's the easy way to get it done, out the bottom. Can the engine alone come out the top? I wonder if some transmission bolts would be impossible to get to with it in there, so if you took the front off could the whole thing come out the front?
You can take it out the top easy enough on the 3.6 petrol. Done a 3.0tdi out the top too but a little bit more labour intensive. You can remove the front, but I really don't think it's necessary or worth the extra labour.
Thanks for the quick replys! I will be tackling this on a 3.0t so I would think it will be close to the same as the 3.6 petrol? I don't think I can get the ute high enough in my garage to come out the bottom. I don't have one of the lift carts either. I have a typical engine hoist.
Hi my Audi q7 2007 came with a 3.6 motor without the vaccum pump at the back of the engine can I replace it with one that has the vaccum pump will it work
Did you replace the timing set while you were at it? I'm looking at doing the timing set on my 05 3.2. Without a lift would it be easier just to drop the trans and transfer case
They had already been just replaced by another mechanic. Soon after the torque converter seal was leaking. Highly suspected they didn't make sure the torque converter stayed with the gearbox when seperating from the engine, and damaged the seal on reassembling.
Hello, I have a HUGE favor for you. I currently have an audi q7 2007 model. The engine is badly damaged. I need it replaced. I came across this video. Where can I find an engine for audi q7 2007? And do you have a video for putting a nee engine on?
You can do it either way. From the top is easy enough. I prefer removal from the bottom on all these models, and as i have a hoist it's a no brainer for me. I can have them out in a couple of hours. This way i don't have to undo gearbox bolts in the car or starter motors or flex plate bolts in the car, nor line the torque converter on reinstallation in the car. Much of a muchness, 6 of one and half a dozen of the other. Whatever floats your boat at the time.

Hey you done a clean job. I made a huge mess with oil and ATF. Also rolled over the engine I removed the transmission and flipping the engine.
Thanks mate. Super interesting. Have the same engine in a Q7

Pls it mean that we can not drop the engine of Audi q7 engine from up side ?
Friggin awesome. R u saying that that car may of had it's engine out before from the sub frame bolt being stripped? Great work.

Removing the starter motor to get to the torque converter bolts tends to be the biggest struggle. The 3.0tdi you have to remove the alternator first.

Q7 3.0t?
@@FourRingsAuto yeah 2012 q7 3.0t
what year Touareg engines are compatible with the 07 Audi Q7 3.6L V6 suv ? I am looking for a plug and play engine 2007 engine possibly thank you.
How do you get the computer disconnected? I’m having one hell of a time

Trans and transfer case are a pain to take out. The 3.2 and 3.6 vr6 engines come out the top easily from a touareg q7 cayenne.
I’ve got an oil leak on mine. 2 garages can’t locate it. Don’t know scar to do

What is wrong with the engine? What country?
I have a question
Can i instal Q7. v6 TDI turbo on vw touareg V6 TDI
Is it same oe different
If they are the same engine code then they will be the same.
Popular turbos were gtb2260vk, and later models gtb2260vzk. These can't be interchanged.
Can you remove it from above or the only way out is the bottom?
You can take out the top. The v6 petrol is easy and has really good access.
Is the toureg v10 engine out able to be done on my drive way? I am a mechanic
Only pulled it from below on the subframe. You may be able to get it out the front with the front end off.
Wouldn't it be easier to remove an Audi q7 3.6quattro engine from top

@@FourRingsAuto thanks
@@FourRingsAuto I'll be working on it soon to change the timing chains would it be easier to take off the intake too
Intake has to come off to do chains. Intake off to access and remove rocker cover to access and lock cams.
