Lowrider v3 CNC--what a long strange trip it's been to build

  • It's been 19 months and still not done, sad to say. I am using a 63" x 117" torsion box table which was originally a vaccum holddown table used with my Festool guiderails. (I was going to construct a CNC with aluminum fabricated on my Momus CNC which I built about 11 or 12 years ago.) My build has two Gecko G540 drives, ehternet smootstepper, a nano-ITX mobo running windows XP+Mach3, a superPID to control a Dewalt 611P, and a 7" touchscreen. The side rails are on removable structures on the side of the table. The free-rolling side (i.e., not on conduit) has 1/8" thick Al for the bearing to ride on. I will probably tie the dust collection into my shop's Clearvue 5HP cyclonic dust collection system with some drops from the ceiling, or just a dedicated minivac+cyclone system. I hope to get back to the build when the insanity of all other projects subside, and I hope that I can complete this before I retire next year!
