What a great attack to course from! If you're pressed for time the What Jane Austen Ate . . . book might work well for you. It's in bit-sized pieces, so picking up and putting down is not a problem.

I just read my first Georgette Heyer and it was delightful… the characters were so funny. (A Convenient Marriage) Also, I love your shirt and candle so much! I am rereading Sense and Sensibility, reading Sanditon for the first time, and possibly rereading Mansfield Park for Jane Austen July depending on time. Love your recommendations!
I've read and enjoyed both Genius of Jane Austen and What Jane Austen Ate and Charles Dickens Knew. I think that Genius is a bit more scholarly but really you can't go wrong with either one. I love Cotillion - one of my favorite Georgette Heyer novels - and highly recommend it.

I’ll be rereading S&S again along with three or four other books. I read the What Jane Austen Ate book a year or so ago, and it was ok but I think myself I’d read the first book instead. I read what kitty did last year and I remember I enjoyed it. I think this year I may also reread the first book in the Stephanie Barron Jane Austen mystery series. And I love the candle idea as well!
I have already read this book for the month of June, but I recommend it: “The Other Bennet Sister” by Janice Hadlow. This is Mary’s story. I am picky about my “sequels”, “retellings” or “in the world of” books, but this one was really good.
I love The Other Bennet Sister. Such a great Mary story.
I've read both Cotillion and Edenbrooke and enjoyed them both. But I must confess that I love Georgette Heyer and Cotillion is one of my favorites, so I vote Cotillion, but you can't go wrong!

I love Jane Austen July! What Kitty Did Next looks good, i might have to add that to my TBR. Between the Heyer book and Edenbrooke, i don't know.... You should probably just read both. 😜

I love Jane Austen July! You probably already read these 2 novels, but if not, i think you would enjoy Miss Austen by Gil Hornby (about Jane's sister Cassandra) or The Other Bennett Sister by Janice Hadlow (about Mary Bennett) Both were excellent and must reads for Austen fans 😊
I enjoyed the What Austen Ate and Dickens Knew book quite a bit. It was fascinating to read about that time period!

Pemberley Shades by Dorothy Bonavia Hunt was originally published in 1949, and is an early, if not first, continuation of Pride and Prejudice. So good, and lightly gothic!

I have yet to read a romance by Georgette Heyer, always read her mystery books, but I did read a biography of hers. Heyer's favorite books came out after WWII. She did not like her earlier works. Cotillion was written in 1953. Keep in mind that she was the breadwinner in her marriage, so it was important for her to help support her and her husband. She researched a lot of her books in private libraries as well as public libraries so she did a lot of work on her books. Some writers plagiarized her research!
Oh wow! I don't know why I haven't read her yet, but look forward to trying some soon. Her biography would be great, too!
Definitely read the Cotillion. I don’t think it will be your last Heyer if do. I started reading her Feb ‘23 and have read 10 now. And that was never a genre that I had ever wanted to read. 😂 I’m reading Mansfield Park in J. A. July, as it’s the only one of her 6 that I haven’t read.
Oh, let me know what you think of Mansfield Park when you're finished. I didn't like it the first time through, but I've grown to love it on the rereads, so I'm very interested in your thoughts since you've read the others.
Great TBR! I'll be reading S & S and watching the 1995 adaption. I'm yet to decide on a non-fiction work but I do have a nice illustrated edition of Jane Austen letters I could read. Edenbrooke is currently sitting on my shelves unread and I never thought of picking it up but hearing you mention it has inspired me to add it to my TBR, thanks!
I recommend Cotillon. It is a hoot and Heyer is known for being historically accurate. I have read Castle Rackrent. It is a short, also funny. Alas, I am not going to participate in Jane Austen July. I want a month off to just mood read! I think I am a little burned out on all the events and need a little break. I hope to be back in the saddle in August!

I want the illustrated JANE AUSTEN letters!! I have a book of her letters, but it's not illustrated. That sounds wonderful!

I’m re-reading Mansfield Park this year. So I used it as my inspiration and am reading Lover’s Vows, Celia’s House, Edmund Bertram’s Diary, The Real Jane Austen by Paula Byrne, Jane Austen’s Letters, and if time Miss Austen by Gill Hornby. And I’ll be watching a couple of Mansfield Park screen adaptations from my library. Can’t wait!

I'm reading Emma (i still need to read Manfield Park then I'll have read all of her main novels), a Pride & Prejudice graphic novel, some of her juvenalia and maybe Sandition.

Jane by the Book is AWESOME. Titus is my favorite male character ever. He's so delightfully awkward and adorable. And she wrote the kisses in that book for me (the reader who hates reading kisses) and yeah. She nailed it.
I definitely am participating. I'll be reading, journaling, and even embroidering for the month. It's gonna be fun!

Such a coincidence, I just received today the same copy of Sense and sensibility! I will definitely be rereading this for July and I hope you will do a spoiler review when you've finished it, it will be lovely to see and hear. I recommend the Georgette Heyer 👍.

Hi Mitzi, I have enjoyed Jane Austen's movies, especially BBC Pride and Prejudice and Emma Thompson in Sense and Sensibility, but I find the reading of Jane Austen's novels challenging. Is there one you would recommend. Thank you so much❤
I would recommend starting with Emma. Most recommend Pride and Prejudice, but I struggled reading that one the first time I tried. I found Emma to be such a humorous read and it helped me understand Austen's wit. I then read Northanger Abbey and it's a lighter read as well. After reading these, I went back to P&P and it was like a whole new book for me and I fell in love!. Hope this helps!

Mitzi, I have a question for you. In a recent video you mentioned a book that was like Mansfield Park and then you mentioned another book. I think you said read one before the other. Please refresh my mind. Thank-you
Celia's House by D.E. Stevenson has sort of a retelling of Mansfield Park about halfway through it. I really enjoyed it, but I wouldn't read it before reading Mansfield Park.
I did not enjoy What Kitty Did Next but then I never like fan fiction. Why do I try?? 🤦♀️

I always feel the same, but I did like the book "Unmarriageable" which is P&P set in Pakistan. The author wrote it in about a month while in grad school, which I think shows a bit, but I think the class issues translate really well to modern day Pakistan. Good luck!

I have read Pride & Prejudice but my mother and I prefer to watch the movie with Colin Firth in it. I would rather watch the movie instead.
Oh, I love the P&P movie, too, but I do love rereading it as well.
My mother and I went to see the movie Emma by Jane Austen and we were quite disappointed by the movie.
Which Emma adaptation? I don't keep up with the latest, so I'm probably behind on my watching. Most of the movies I watch are super old. 😂
@@mitzireadsandwrites it was the version that came out in 2020. My mother and I were disappointed by it.
@@monaedoyle3631 I felt similarly but then I watched the Romola Garai version and watched it again and liked it better. It's very stylized but they keep much of Austen's text which I always prefer.
