I felt that the commentators (Tim especially) were much more positive this meet! They didn’t point out mistakes as much and really praised the good! I enjoyed listening to them and I hope they keep focusing on the good!

Jordan is looking SO much stronger too! By far the best bar routine I’ve ever seen from her! Training with Simone and getting to spend so much time watching and learning from her is probably such an incredible experience and enormous help for another gymnast!

I mean at the end of the day, when they aren’t in a team competition, it is an individual sport...aka whoever is the *best* wins right?! She’s been the best for a lonnnng time now 🙌🏻 there are definitely PLENTY of other talented gymnasts out there, don’t get me wrong...but Simone truly is the 🐐! 🙌🏻

@@Gretagoo dgmw, the old days were beautiful. did you notice how NCAA is about 20 years behind, difficulty wise? not a bad thing, obviously, but i started to notice that what was elite back in the early 00s, late 90s is NCAA now. I started comparing NCAA gymnasts today to olympic gymnasts then. yeah, i was bored lol

Some of the most talented elite athletes (Ragan Smith for example) take a year or two to compete fully in NCAA because their focus has to be cleaning up their skills to score well. There is no point for most of the gymnasts to maintain this elite level of difficulty at the expense of their bodies because it isn’t rewarded. Plus, competing at this level every week for three months each year would be nearly impossible.

Literally CANT express my level of excitement to *finally* see a NEW meet after going the past year without any gymnastics competitions! Not even going to pretend that (during quarantine) I didn’t go back and rewatch all the championships, cups, and all the olympics and trials all the way back to 2000! 😆 was a bit bummed to learn Simone wasn’t competing here, but it was actually kind of cool to see where all the other contenders are stacking up as of now 😍
She has even around since she was 3 or 4. If you search her you'll see how good she has been for so long! This break was a huge benefit to her. She is awesome!
Dang...I wish Chellsie Memmel had been able to be here! If she hadn't hurt her ankle, she probably would have been ready for this competition....it would be nice to see where she stacks up against some of the other gymnasts!
Same! I honestly keep thinking about how much further along she would be by now had she not sprained her ankle. But bigger picture, it’s better that it happened months ago vs the week of trials. I’m hoping she just gets her chance to compete and show us what she’s got with no more injuries 🤞🙏
How do gymnasts enter competitions? I know for the Olympics they have to have done previous ones to get on the team. But say I started this year during lockdown and somehow became brilliant, how would I enter this competition? How does Chellsie enter? Do you just register yourself? How do you prove that you are at that level?
@@thedancinggymnast you would have to go through the elite program. You can't just register at an elite competition. I believe they have been watching the gymnasts via Zoom. But in all honesty? It takes years of training to reach this level. Also, there are SO many who actually have or had the skills level over the years but just can't compete under pressure. Elite gymnastics is like a puzzle and all the pieces have to fit. Skill level, nerves, experience, actually getting the attention of USAG to get the chance to even qualify for an elite competition and then, possibly, the National Team and training camps, etc. I will say though, Jade Carey was actually "scouted" out as a level 10 gymnast (yes levels 3-10 are competed by most elites, meaning at "least" 7 years). It is sad they downed the team to just 4 this Olympic cycle (+2 of course). I miss the 7 person teams tbh. Be safe!

the biggest flex is that I used to practice with Jordan chiles and that shes actually one of the sweetest people and always hyped me up when I still competed
jordan chiles on vault! and floor! and beam! i didn’t really consider her to be in contention for tokyo, but after this, idk... if she keeps performing like this, she’ll definitely be in the mix. the biggest improvement i’m noticing from her is in her form and technique. she’s more precise and clean too. i bet working with simone has something to do with that... :D also can i just say how much i am loving all these black women athletes training at the same gym? it’s gotta be just a great experience. gymnastics has historically been preeeeetty white, so i can’t imagine how it must feel to have several other black women training with you. so happy to see riley happy! and doing well! this is the riley i’ve been dying to see for YEARS. i knew this was inside her. fuckin broke my heart when they said she was finally looking forward to being in the gym again. they did a number on her. maybe it’s bc i haven’t seen laurie in 4 1/2 years (has it really been that long?!), but i forgot how clean and sharp she is. her tumbling is of course powerful, but her jumps are also just stellar. she’s a powerful gymnast. looked great and solid on beam too. omfg jade’s vault blew me the fuck away. i swear i rewatched it like 10 times just trying to make sense of how stupid fucking good it was. some really beautiful stuff in her bars routine too. and i did not know konnor was this good?? her beam was exquisite! that triple combo into that beautiful turn ::chef’s kiss:: it’s like she was floating, so light and airy, but so commanding. and then her vault was so powerful and clean. i’m with nastia, so so impressed. ciena’s movement reminded me of a dancer, like i was literally like, she has to have taken dance at some point bc she’s doing more creative artistic movement than just straight gymnasts do. i don’t think she’s quite skilled enough to go far (at least not that she’s showing) but i really enjoyed watching her. shilese is really good in some respects and then i find her lacking in others. some of her movements during floor were just awkward, not polished enough, maybe she was tired from the tumbling so she couldn’t give those elements full expression. i don’t see her going to the olympics bc she’s missing the important finishes and details (and her wrists are flappy which as a dancer, just bothers me, speaks to lack of control and full body awareness. and her pique turns were ghastly. i’m sorry, but yeesh.) i think she’s gonna kill in college gymnastics tho. suni is such a star!! i mean, bars?! The wolf turns just stress me out if the gymnast can’t do them perfect every time I wish they weren’t in the routines. These gymnasts are insanely talented then don’t need to do those stupid turns
I agree wholeheartedly. I used to like them when I watched gymnastics for the first time but after seeing so many gymnast fall off beam or mess up a routine because of them, I'm not a fan anymore. Like jojo said, gymnast will keep doing them as long as the value remains for them
I think Jordan could be a real contender and deserves to be. The issue is building a team with max scoring AND medal potential. And unfortunately Jordan is great on Floor and vault where we already have Simone and Jade. She will have to keep showing consistent all-around potential to be on the team. We have Simone for Vault, Beam and Floor. (And maybe bars, though maybe not the nr1). Jade already qualified as an individual so she will do vault and floor which covers those two medals. We have Suni who is a good floor and beam backup and she can for sure get us a Bars medal which we need. Those 3 are locks in my opinion. This means we need 2 more team members who are great all-arounders and another person who doesn’t quite fit the team but has medal potential on an event. It will all depend on Tom’s strategy. Will he be strategic and choose the athletes that fill gaps in the team and max medal potential - or straight-up AA results? Because if I were him I would give the 2 available team spots to someone like Grace, Jordan or Morgan depending on how they perform. Grace doesn’t have one standout event but she is a solid and reliable team AA’er. Jordan also now has a strong AA program. The prospect of having Morgan on the team is interesting because she could surprise us and have a killer bars set - time will tell. Also, with Jade being an individual a strong floor score frome anyone along with a good AA score would be a strong contender. That last individual spot was in my mind Kara Eakers until the ring leap fiasco of 2019. Now I’m thinking Konnor could grab this spot for her beam. Or anyone who can bring us a killer beam OR bars set. If both then even better. Mykyla’s vault potentian is not enough to get her on the team in my opinion. She also has a great floor routine but if her AA program is better than Grace, Jordan and Morgan’s - only then do I think she could make it. I think Laurie would have been great had she started training sooner. Chellsie could very well be a contender but I’m not betting any money on it quite yet.
Great to see some elite athletes compete since the pandemic shutdown. I hope and pray that by this summer we'll have more people vaccinated and a bit more free in safety precautions to come out and see an actual event in person. Also, let's not get too optimistic about this summer. We may have to see a spike in cases again before we really defeat this virus. Overall, it's great to see Laura Hernandez back in the lineup since 2016. Look forward to seeing more competition...........
i LOVE those front tumbling series on beam. skye's is brilliant, too. Has her gymnastics always been this good?!?!?! i dont remember hers being one that atuck out to me before; like McClain's for i stance. has she just improved tremendously with this one year off or did i not watch her well as a junior? she is absolutely fab
Why is the style lately to have the leos cut so high on the leg? It's unnecessary and probably makes them even more uncomfortably body conscious. They're always tugging them back down.
Hopefully they get devalued so people just stop doing them lol. It's not even the skill itself that I dislike, it's that so few gymnasts can do them without flailing around and bobbling or falling off. It looks ridiculous with flailing arms wobbles. And too many gymnasts have blown competitions on that one stupid skill, I hate seeing that😭 But when wolf turns are done really well they don't bother me at all! On beam, that is. I despise wolf turns on floor no matter how well they are done lol. That should be outlawed.

konnor mcclain was crazy on beam, cant believe this was her debut. very promising new athlete, i bet she's only gonna get better through the year.

Mykyla’s vault potentian is not enough to get her on the team in my opinion. She also has a great floor routine but if her AA program is better than Grace, Jordan and Morgan’s - only then do I think she could make it. I think Laurie would have been great had she started training sooner. Chellsie could very well be a contender but I’m not betting any money on it quite yet.
So many promising 16 year olds. i hope you can follow their careers because they show such skill !

Great to see some elite athletes compete since the pandemic shutdown. I hope and pray that by this summer we'll have more people vaccinated and a bit more free in safety precautions to come out and see an actual event in person. Also, let's not get too optimistic about this summer. We may have to see a spike in cases again before we really defeat this virus. Overall, it's great to see Laura Hernandez back in the lineup since 2016. Look forward to seeing more competition...........

Why the hell are all the score so low for such a good routine? Did the scoring system change?
The code of points for this Olympic cycle lowered a lot of starting values so it makes the scores look a lot lower

Can we retire the wolf turns? They're my least favorite thing to watch 😒
Hopefully they get devalued so people just stop doing them lol. It's not even the skill itself that I dislike, it's that so few gymnasts can do them without flailing around and bobbling or falling off. It looks ridiculous with flailing arms wobbles. And too many gymnasts have blown competitions on that one stupid skill, I hate seeing that😭
But when wolf turns are done really well they don't bother me at all! On beam, that is. I despise wolf turns on floor no matter how well they are done lol. That should be outlawed.
