Love the new video format with tips for multiple growing zones. You all transition so smoothly from one gardener to the next...really lovely cohesive team effort! Really a joy to watch. Thank you!
Omg I love the new format where you hit all the grow zones, and I also can't wait to hear an update next year on Biana's trials with the 3 different bed prep methods!
I love how it’s 68* and you guys (and myself here in Las Vegas) are all wearing long sleeved shirts and hoodies. With flip flops of course. Lol. It’s “freezing” to us. Lol
Can you guys make a video on indoor gardening tips?😊 like mason jar hacks, window growing, herbs, smaller veggies, ect! I don't have a yard for growing anything in right now and that's NOT what I'm used to, I so miss growing a garden! I only have a covered tiny patio, and an itty bitty shed, the patio area is surrounded by dense bamboo and evergreens so there's not a lot of sunlight and it's also snowing, just in case you have any tips on back porch growing too!😂 Thanks so much for this video!😍
@@nrgltwrkr2225 yes yes! I guess the mason jar idea is technically considered hydroponics? which I'm not all too familiar with, but I'm learning how to grow from kitchen scraps still, it's a cool process!
I had all my raised beds well covered with leaves, Between the windstorm and my chickens, they are bare. And they ate most of my cover crop seeds. It's a good thing they are cute.
We need zone 6 coverage. :) Growfully with Jenna or Luke at MI Gardner would be awesome to have on your team. The girl from Colorado is ok but us lake folks have brutal snowfall. Great video.
@@Blossomandbranch thank you for responding! we get snow in feet not inches, but advice on what your doing in the winter when you can get into gardens, winter sowing methods vs cold stratification in fridge, spring planning. Dahlia tuber storage/splitting excited a cut flower farmer join the Epic team! Oh and any greenhouse or high tunnel maintenance 😀
Thank you for showing a Southern California winter! The only gardening tips I can ever find are for places that get freezes and way colder than here, so it really really helps to see you guys planting and doing things, because it definitely feels like it can happen here right now haha
"Believe it or not, it is actually winter here in San Diego." *Sees healthy green seedlings and bountiful sunlight* *Stares out my apartment window and sees 2-3 inches of snow on the ground* *Weeps uncontrollably*
Our greenhouse fell apart this year due to the weather so my husband had to move all of the plants into our office and now there’s no room 😩 he left a few of them out there that have been doing okay but luckily nothing died. We are zone 7a
Thank you so much for incorporating various gardening zones and people who actually garden in those zones. This is so helpful and I especially love the use of leaves!!!!! I’ve always used leaves as a kid for this purpose bc my dad preferred it for his lawn. So happy to see this trend coming back! I even saw my bougie neighbors keep their leaves as mulch under their trees this fall. 🤗🤗🤗
Great video. Like always !! Now you need to find someone join your team from a zone 2-3 , We have -40 Celsius in winter. It’s challenging. 😊 I just started gardening, 2 years ago, learning from all of you quite a lot, but I am missing tips for my zone. 😊
Year round seedlings... I can only imagine :) I am in Canadian Zone 5A, not complaining, but you gotta work for it. Having said that, I also saw amazing backyard vegetable gardens in Whitehorse, Yukon (Zone 1A).
Zones are great, but I find daylight hours can really affect the growing season. Up in Ontario I'm still zone 6b, but it takes much longer to warm up even if the frost dates are around the same as the same zone further south
You should make a video and try the winter is canning grow a pepper in a can challenge. The idea is to grow a chili pepper in a can inside using grow lights. You also want to prune constantly to keep the plant small. #pepperinacan
I prefer to do fall cover crops that winter kill-you can do a cold tolerant cover crop early in spring but you’ll need a plan in place to kill it, so that can be tricky!! Maybe start planning now for next fall!
yo epic gardening, im in Escondido, procrastinated on my onions. Hopefully I can start some in seed cells and plant them out. should i use heating mats?
Do you know any tropical gardeners you could add to make it more complete? In many cases winter is the main growing season and the summer is too hot for most crops.
Question, as I did maybe a dumb thing: I'm in SLC, UT. Zone five, I think? I do cover crops but I did one this year that was a mix of stuff. A lot of crimson clover. But I do perennials and now I'm concerned as I thought the crimson clover would die off. Apparently it wont? Is the clover going to interfere with my perennials? I've got a cottage garden type setup and its a lot of scatter plot stuff so its hard to pinpoint things.
Would love more details from Chris in Zone 8B setting up her low hoop house for those of us who are not very handy. I have the exact same Birdies beds (two 8-in-one and one 6-in-one). How tall are the rebar stakes? How long is the half-inch PVC? As many details as possible would be helpful. Thanks very much.
Just to make sure don't mistake hay with straw. They are completely 2 different thing. Hay is dehydrated. Straw still have moister in them. I had a friend used hay for mulching instead, even over watered the plant. The plant didn't receive much water. So remember it's straw for mulching can help plant keep the moister, not hay.😂
The mango in India is very common and eaten a lot! they are really tasty you should try to grow some Indian crops like the Indian sweet potato by the way it's not really sweet but it's tasty! and you'll find them in India a lot with some more ingredients wich makes them really REALLY tasty, there's also potatoes normal ones grown to and oranges are really tasty here by the way most are a little bit sour but very nice and juicy! helps a lot in India cause in summer it is very hot!, the most amazing Indian sweet potato dish is cooking it in a pan flip each one for 3 to 4 mins it's above 1 but under 6 and don't forget the Indian chat masala! once you try it it's very addicting and it's so good and tasty!
I definitely enjoy just you and Jacques, but being from a more northern climate than SD, it's definitely nice to see the other perspectives as well from Chris and... The other one 😬. 🤣
Chris, how do you get water to the plants under plastic? (Or fabric for that matter). This is a puzzle to me, as I want to be able to cover some of my food crops over the winter, but because we sometimes get freezes, I’m worried I’ll ruin my irrigation supplies.
I can’t speak for chris, but whenever we are growing anything in the winter, we have to be strategic with watering and do it on warmer days, and we have to blow out our irrigation hoses after each water! It’s part of what makes winter growing difficult for sure!
Does anyone know of any channels like this but for NorCal? Like zone 8/9 stuff? I follow Peaceful Valley GrowOrganic (Nevada County) but they dont post often like this or have quite the same style of video. Thanks! 🌱🌱
I'd love to see something like that too. We have a very mild climate, but the amount of light is so much less in winter that I don't think we can grow as much up here as in San Diego.
9b here in Sonoma County 💖 Appreciate this info! Lots to learn. Tired of the frequent freezes already this year, exhausting trying to cover up at night. 😤
Oh I see, you’re talking about the leaf bags. There are also a dozen black trash bags and some from Ace in there but next time I’ll be sure to tell everyone to drop off their leaves in unlabeled bags for you 😊🫡😉
I have a question.. why do people harvest the way they do? IE: they cut cabbage and what not at the base instead of ripping out the entire root? Wouldn't it be easier to just rip out the entire plant also you can plant something else in it's place? I just find it foolish to just something at the base and leave the root in place in the garden.. to me that's a waste of space now because something is still in the same spot.. I'll never understand that...
OMG have you guys seen the kid on FreshFood4Life? You need to do a collaborative with him. I just saw his video and he even brought you guys up. He's the future of gardening. Seriously, it would be EPIC! I don't know him or have anything to do with him but please you guys check him out.

Yes, I am so happy that Brianna has joined as a zone 5 grower, I am in a zone 5B. Chris has also been a fantastic addition to the team.

For indoor grow light/hydroponic/microgreens, @OnTheGrow is really great. (Not active, sadly. But they have a lot of good older videos.)

Wonderful! Thank you for the fabulous tips for us northern gardeners. You all rocked it!
❤❤ thank you for the positive words!
Also just noticed the cute lambie munching on the cover crop!!
That’s Roosevelt and midnight, our sweet Southdown babydoll sheep!! They’re so funny, like dogs!! ❤
Thank you for covering zone 5! Keep the variety coming, please. You picked wonderful associates to contribute to your channel.
Excellent video! Love how you covered most of the zones. Zones 9 & 10, like us usually are left out of most gardening channels. 💝

Zone 5b and the sunset time is so annoying. Gets dark so early its sucks, can't even go out after work. Weather has been mild though.
Now all we need are variety suggestions for this upcoming spring. Would love to hear what varieties everyone was surprised/disappointed with.

I don’t think you need heat mats for onions as they tend to be cooler weather hardy unless you are planting seedlings outside and it is chilly out.
