Yeah, we had a tenth planet guy roll through and teach this exact sequence. A white belt that was there ate it up and almost caught me with a triangle. I was pretty impressed he worked the sequence over and over for a month and got pretty damn good at it and in his last comp, subbed all three opponents with that same move. Pretty sick.
Hey chewy, I just finished training at ur gym this evening. The hospitality was fantastic! Very welcoming. Rich was a great instructor. Very attentive, and explained things well. I was hoping u would pop in so that I could personally convey my appreciation for ur videos but no worries I’ll just have to come back another time😁. Thank u! .....to those of u who read the comments...if u get a chance to train at chewys place do it.
Chewjitsu no worries. I’m sure you like to spend some time outside the gym occasionally haha. I definitely want to stop back in again just not sure how soon. A friend wants to come with me next time so we have to match up schedules. Hopefully in the next couple weeks.
I've been doing bjj for a year and when I'm not in the gym, all I think about outside of work is going back to the gym. I'm a 2nd Dan in tkd and that only took 3.5 years or so and the rate of skill acquisition is much slower in bjj and I love the challenge of it all. I'm an addict.
A year of doing BJJ. Have never tapped a Blue belt before today. Managed to pull this move off against a blue belt who has 20kg on me. Money favourite move
I have super flexible hips and love rubber guard, but I've always found it hard to do anything when they square up with me and bury their head in my chest. I don't think I'm paying enough attention to that angle on the setup. Thanks!
I always try to achieve that sideways angle in my closed guard, whether I'm playing rubber guard or just setting up triangles and omoplatas. But I was wondering if you have any tricks to keep that angle against someone who is wise to that and works like the devil to keep flattening you out every time you scoot your hip out. Are they open to a surprise sweep the other way? Is there some sort of frame or grip that can help me stay on my side?
Yes I can do it with my right leg but if I try to bring my left leg up in that position My Knee pops out of joint or socket I am Not sure if it was from skiing or wrestling But I am slowly working on my range of motion
BMac is an incredible teacher and has a very unique game and perspective on jiu jitsu. If you’re looking for some 10p content, his website brandonmc.ninja is an awesome resource and I can’t recommend it enough.
One of the biggest issues I have is when someone is in my rubber guard and they get their arm closest to my foot out, they lift their head, while pulling on my foot, creating like a weird toe hold. It's not surprising because we come from Gokor and his Hayastan school, but it's rough. Is there anything I can do better to prevent this?
Not a professional but in my experience these are the correct principles. Just start with a flat spine and reach for your toes not bending the back, bending only at the hips and slightly at the knees every half hour to fifteen minutes, every day for 15- 30 seconds or more.go just to where you feel a slight stretch. Once you can easily touch your toes you’ll understand it’s just repetition. If anything hurts or feels like a strain don’t do it. You can’t do it in long intense sessions because you’re body will respond by tightening, you actually have multiple mechanisms in your body that react like an immune system against muscular/tendon overstretch/overstrain. Your looking for acclimation not direct increase. Only light stimulation over time will relax the body. Shocking it will result in stiffness or injury.
All of my Jiu Jitsu family . You guys try this app out Marune lets you keep track of you training techniques flows comps and socialize with other Jiu Jitsu practitioners check it out!!
Eh, without flexibility Rubber Guard players tend to suck, cus they're just too easy to break. Those with flexibility and height are alot better and you can absolutely feel it, simply put. That's just science for u, to put it in perspective, a bigger opponent will be better than someone smaller at pinning or mounting positions. So if you wanna do Rubber Guard, by all means, but the more flexibility you have, the better off ur gonna be. Getting to your side only gets you the positioning, but then that's just an extra step u gotta take and it's still not going to be as strong as someone who has the flexibility to hold onto it comfortably. If you really wanna challenge what I said about the science thing, it should make sense to you automatically, but you can ask any physics professor to explain why someone taller and more flexible will always be better at doing rubber guard.
very helpful for us non-10th planet guys

Damn, that is how it is done. It's interesting, some things just stick better some
Great story

Chewy, thanks for being open-minded enough to share these techniques, great stuff.
Brandon is a good guy. My son trains at his gym.

Thank you posting this, I have wondered many times what this is like for those of us with knee issues

A year of doing BJJ. Have never tapped a Blue belt before today. Managed to pull this move off against a blue belt who has 20kg on me. Money favourite move
Thanks a lot, that is exactly what I was missing!
Brandon I love his stuff.
Y’all are such a trip, great video!
That was a great knee protection tip from one professor and a weak cellphone throw from the other professor.
Good tip on the knee vs hip. Now I just have to find someone that will work rubber guard with me on the side
I needed those details. Thanks man
I have super flexible hips and love rubber guard, but I've always found it hard to do anything when they square up with me and bury their head in my chest. I don't think I'm paying enough attention to that angle on the setup. Thanks!
Awesome post! Thanks Chewy!!
That's cool and all but can you please do a tutorial on the head pedestal at 2:41?
This video probably saved me from destroying my knee. I didn't know rubber guard was done with the hip, not the knee.
wow thank you. I thoroughly enjoyed this
playing rubber guard is so much fun
Hell yeah...awesome video 🔥🔥🔥🔥

Wish I woulda seen this video 4 weeks ago. Popped my knee by pulling too much on my foot.
Exactly I had the same problem
Awesome. Something differemt
So helpful
Does rubber guard blow your back out since you are in extreme lumbar flexion with opponents weight on you?
Rubber guard and any high guard for that matter can be pretty bad for your back.
Idk maybe, but I train at a 10p school and I haven't hears anybody ever complain about their back. Could still happen tho might nees to look into it
2:40 ... and so we call this The Tripod Headsupp
Thanks a lot! I saw this and got two subs just two hours later.
Two of the greatest people and humans in the world of jujitsu, keep up the good work and play safe 🥋🥋🤼♂️

"You only need to be able to do this"
Yeah about that. I flopped amazingly. Absolutely horrendous flexibility

Double grip the hand pulling on your foot and pull it to you, then armbar/figure 4 lock once arm isolated maybe? 😌

When you first started as a white belt, did you ever think you would be teaching Jiu-Jitsu, let alone teaching as a career??
Did he say that's called the "gogoplanche"?
What’s the name of the choke at 5:27?
Gogo clinch.
Gogoplata
