What ever deal you have with Humminbird, is not enough. Your instructional videos are the best I have seen. Keep up the fantastic work. I have 7 helix units that I have been using for years and just purchased a Solix 12 with mega 360 and I have learned a lot from your vids. Thanks
Great videos that blew my mind, I'm def leaning towards a solix that's for sure. I just bought my first boat wanting to def upgrade my fish finder. However do u have a video or can u do a video on when u create a waypoint how to go to that area to fish once u have created it. I gather that creating one is pretty easy no problem there but then how do u locate that spot and know exactly where to cast?
Network the units. Creat the waypoint then use the GPS Mapping or 360 Navigation to see the waypoints overlaid on 360 is the easiest way to get to a way point or better yet get you iPilot LINK and let the trolling motor do it for you.
once you create a way point and you want to get to it. all you have to do is just go to way points and scroll to the one you wanna go to select it and select GO TO and navigate to it. once you get to it your unit will alarm you that you've arrived
How much mapping can you record on a zero lines card before its full. Thanks for the videos the have helped me a lot on networking and using these units.
Thanks Doug. The reason I ask that question is In the video you had to change SD cards you said you filled it up and I assumed you had the zero lines card. Can you use a regular SD card or do you have to use zero lines card?
It seems like you could make a nicer overlay if they would let the user define the side imaging range to be recorded for the overlay. Might get a lot better light and dark consistency that way. Might be something to think about and ask them to make an option. I'm sure they would listen to you. Or maybe try it at a higher frequency (800 KHz?) and see how that does.
Excellent videos Doug! If Humminbird is not paying you they should be!!! Seriously!!! My question. If I want a depth contour map and a side imaging mosaic map, do I have to drive over the area twice? one pass with traditional autochart on and a second pass with the mosaic record on, or will it record both at the same time?ThanksKirby
Been using commercial software at work to generate mosaics without the ability to view on unit. It would be nice if they added this feature to the Helix models, could their reasoning be that the Helix models can't handle the real-time processing of the data? Also should look at giving user the option to select which method of overlay they would like, something like overlapping or shine through. With overlapping, user could space boat tracks to a point where they could hide nadir area and produce a smooth image.
@@DougVahrenberg more likely a marketing scheme to get people to buy the more expensive model. The Helix units can do autochart live on screen. They also have side imaging capabilities. The fact they can process data to create a realtime map gives more evidence it's capable. It's basically using the same data to create the map as it would for a sidescan mosaic. It just has to change the pixels to show sidescan images rather than different map colors.
HELIX and SOLIX work off different operating systems. HELIX is the legendary operating system they have used since the matrix came out and the SOLIX uses the new Humminbird Operating System that was released with the ION/ONIX series of units. There are many features, differences and expandability is why they changed operating systems and their are differences and limits with the older legendary operating system
Question. I'm running two transducers. The Si transducer that comes with the Helix 12 G2N. I also ordered Y cable MSIDB Y | Cables | 720094-1 $29.99 XNT 9 20 T | Transom Transducers | 710198-1 $79.99. The normal recording path is really narrow on the ACL. Would I get any different recording path if I used just the Si transducer, I'm thinking it would still use the 200 kHz beam. Is there anyway or trick to getting a little bit more coverage when recording map? From what I can see on this video your ACL recording path is wider than what I'm getting with my Helix unit. I have to go back and forth way too much to cover an area.
Doug Vahrenberg I already know that. My question was if there was a way to get a wider path. Also I'm not a mapping expert but have used another mapping system that did a wider path and did a better job then ACL. The claim that the narrow path is more accurate is not true. That is a false claim.
SI Mosaics is only on the SOLIX units. It could be done with AutoChart Pro by doing sonar recordings on the HELIX but is not live on the screen like the SOLIX can perform
Doug Vahrenberg so i have only just in the past 2 weeks got back into the fishing scene and in the process of re outfitting the old bay boat. We had the gen 1 lowrance with structure scan and side scan and in the past 2 week researched and purchases a helix 10 inch mega SI GTN. ONIX wasnt even mentioned in the list of sounders on hummingbird site. But i can find it on hummingbird googling it. Short story we felt comparing them that ths helix pretty much did everything the solix did minus the touch screen and an improved button control and all for a significant cost difference. It would seem though i missed some features.
I keep hoping HB will start including this feature on it's mid range units such as the Helix the way Lowrance has done with it's similar mid range units such as the Elite Ti. I'm not counting on it though.
@@MrWhiltetail it won't happen. It's could be done with a simple update but hummingbird is getting passed up after having been the leading innovator for so long. They made sidescan and down imaging affordable and it thrust them to the top. They must have forgotten what got them there. They don't innovate anymore. Now they are holding on purely by their lake master maps. I purchased my last humminbird this year. It's already been sent back to get fixed. I was a die-hard humminbird buyer but not anymore for the reason you stated, and a myriad of other reasons.

Thanks Doug! You make good educational videos !🚤
If you turn that mosaic feature off does it still record the contour lines or do you have to redo the whole lake again
Can you do Mosaic Live AND make a bottom contour map at the same time?

I was told pretty much unlimited data can be save to ZeroLine Card. The data is very small file size

Is this menu on the Helix 12 Chirp Mega Si G2N? Great information. I have been complaining about the narrow map path. This would help with that more.
This is a Feature of the ONIX & SOLIX Series Units.
OK thanks Doug. I was wondering if that was the case.

Yes you can. I was just showing the feature and actually first time I was using so there is some tweaking you can do to produce the data you want.
What is the point of having this mosaic to see Rivera channels and timber? Do it show brush piles for fishing crappies?

I would guess it's limitation of the internals inside the unit why SOLIX can display Mosiacs and HELIX can not.

AutoCHart Live uses the 20° Beam of the 200kHz to create maps.

Can you do that on the new 2019 helix 7 SI g3n?

Does this work in real-time on Solix or is the computer required?
AutoChart LIVE and SOLIX Side Imaging Mosiacs are created on the unit in real time on the SOLIX.
Is the mosaic only a feature on the solix? Curios if the helix mega 10 does it as well?
Mosaics is available on the ONIX & SOLIX units.

ONIX was replaced with the SOLIX models. Current Humminbird Product is HELIX Gen 2 and SOLIX plus Piranha MAx Series.

How do you see plankton ?? you said "got alot of plankton bere today "
Imaging Sonar can see plankton in the water. Especially the higher frequency sonars.
