I'm using super glue as a finish for a long time... some tips:
    1) don't buff with paper or cloth. Use a vinilic glove to spread the glue.
    2) the thinner the glue, the better. High viscosity glue messes up the finish with some blobs.
    3) always use gas mask and eye protection, even when doing outside and with a fan. Never breathe the gases coming from CA and wood (or paper, clothes, etc). It can damage your lungs very bad. I known it by the worst way.
    4) you can use 1 or 2 coats for a matte finish or build up with more layers and finish in a high gloss finish. I personally sand between coats.

Nice to see you back on the guitar building again. I hope you do it more because you want to finish it than for our sake. Also, that is a really beautiful fretboard, so I understand why you went through all that trouble to make it work.
I was finally diagnosed with ADD and Asperger just a couple of weeks ago. (at the age of 44 , haven't started trying any medication yet)
And it sheds some light on all the unfinished and unstarted and unplanned projects of mine. It probably also explains why it's so easy to sit around watching videos of other people making stuff :) It also explains my affinity for taking shortcuts. And why I write many sentences in a row that seem unconnected (as I think of new stuff to write while still writing)

Have you ever tried using a bone burnisher or bone folder to surface harden wood? I have a deer antler tip that I use all the time on all sorts of materials to polish up quickly and easily. I use it on wood, too. I've noticed wood will polish and that the cell structure on the surface will compress very compactly and be quite a bit harder. Sometimes the cells will try to bounce back, requiring a couple more go's. Depending on the wood. The downside is oftentimes the compression follows the grain unevenly due to harder cell structures along the growth line and softer cells in between. But that can be remedied by light sandings in between burnishings.
    Anyway, just a thought,
    Cheers. And brilliant work, BTW.

NB Derek at Big D Guitars did a whole guitar in superglue a few years ago. It looked good, but he hated the process - like you said, once you start there's no going back. Would it have been any use to spray it with CO2 kicker after each layer, once you were done buffing the wet surface, to harden/dry the surface immediately? Or is the surface better for having air-dried? Keep on having fun building, I'm having fun watching.

This is how we finish maple fingerboards at Lākland. The super glue lends for a high gloss, hardwaring finish without the need of thick lacquer and all the troubles it comes with.
As you found, the trick is that first part of application. Once you have a section where the CA has penetrated and lightly solidified, you can flood that section and wipe it down the rest of the board as easy as oil. On maple, one or two coats is all you need and then buff it to 1200 for a glorious and hard thin finish.

I thought this might happen a while ago, having worked with kauri a while ago. It was like balsawood. Nice save though! I finished a couple of guitars with superglue, it really polishes up 18:58 nicely

Can’t believe it’s still this soft after the stabilisation!

I've just spent 35 minutes watching Bill Bailey's younger ( and less hairy) brother applying superglue to the neck of a guitar...I think I need to get out more 😏

Who diagnosed the ADHD. I've been diagnosed with ASD and been referred to the NHS because the feel that ADHD is more prevalent than the ASD however the NHS doesn't have an ADHD diagnostic service in Wales. How did you manage, or is England different.

Did you know that within the NHS there is a "right to chose" where you get your diagnosis, so if your local NHS doesn't have a service or the wait times are astronomical, you can get your GP to refer you to an external provider like Psychiatry UK ( I know this because I'm about to start the process myself) there's a youtube channel called Welcome to the Wormhole that has an extremely good vid on the process
