Great video mate. Thanks for sharing. Just a teeny tiny bit of feedback. As you know, UKG is heavily swung and I think you should've addressed which swing settings people should use specially that the legendary "Logic 16C Swing" is not straightforward in Ableton. Other than that. its a stellar video. Thanks again.
This is most probably the best series of UKG lessons on youtube - trust me, I have watched near all of them in the past 22 hours and this one is by far the best of the bunch.
Hi, Will! I just started out producing music and your videos are really easy to follow i love it. I was wondering if you could break down in details how to make the groovy percussion part a bit. I'm struggling with it so much. Keep up with the good work!
hey! i'm a new subscriber cause i'm loving these uk garage tutorials and your videos are really great! the genre (grime actually) is getting a bit popular where i live and it's been refreshing. i also love the band the 1975 and they have a lot of ukg influenced stuff, idk if you know or like them but i'd love it if you could make a video kind of translating something they did or something like that idk but honestly anything ukg i'm here for it! great job!
Where in the world are you? I'm so glad you're enjoying the UKG vibes! Not sure if I'll be covering a 1975 video any time soon but I'll definitely keep the UKG tunes coming if that's what people are into! Thank you so much for taking the time to reach out!
@@WillHatton no problem at all, but do try and check their last album if you can/want to! and i'm from brazil!! more specifically the state of rio de janeiro, but grime (and also drill) is getting quite popular in the underground scene of rio and sao paulo as well! check out the 'brasil grime show' if you're interested, they are the main responsibles of it and it's a really nice show!!
This was really good- helped me understand the role of every sound in the genre: the kick adding the 2 step rhythm, the rim being the 2 and 4 backbeat, open hats on the up beat etc. I don't know if it was addressed, but I think the closed hi hats are in the drum rack so I couldn't get a sense of how they're used. Are they usually just filling anywhere that doesn't have an open hi hat as a fill?
I’m so glad it was helpful George! Apologies, the hats are playing a combination of on and off beats. If you watch my latest video I go in-depth on 5 different UKG hat patterns!

Snappy! That PERC layer is magical to me... Would love a breakdown of that.

Any recommendations for the drum sounds? Packs etc?
