Ford Bronco II - Will It Run

- Kevin over at Junkyard Digs sent me a text saying he had a few cars that he needs to get rid of because he is out of room so I ended up with this non-running Ford Bronco II fresh from his parents yard where it has been stored for years. After a new battery and testing the fuel pump can I get it to have it's first start in many years.

This Week With Cars - Episode 0236
#fordbronco #bronco #4x4
There must be thousands of neglected projects like this around the country, some of them are lucky enough to fall into the hands of someone who knows what he's doing! Nice work, Steve!
thats not a1989 it 1988
What a nice project, helps people understand the importance of doing things the right way the first time, thanks
👍
Miss my 90' B2. Had a D35, a lift, chop top, headers, and a manual swap after the A4LD commited suicide. Somehow it made it to 250k miles until I wheeled it on just 2 quarts of oil lol. What a great truck.
Yes more Bronco 2
I’m just glad I have a 84’ Bronco II…
Mechanical fuel pump with 2.8 V6…
Always nice to be able to find and rectify a simple problem to get a vehicle running again
Your video production remains at a high level and provides clear views of everything you talk about. We really appreciate the time you take in setting up your shots.
As with all your cars, always keen to see more videos on each of them as you make progress with them.
84 Bronco II was my first car. Mine was carbureted. I love this vehicle!!! I hope you get it running smoothly. 👍👍👍
You clearly explain how to diagnose a part that is not working, thank you for this.
Would love to see more! I have a 93 Explorer, underneath both are rangers
Or Pintos,. 😂😂😂
Hey steve, thats an 88', love the content bud
Yeah I was gonna say. No way it's an 89'.
Ok that looks cool
Those 2.9L engines have no guts whatsoever but also they won't stop running. My 89 sat for 3 years, stabil in the gas and started right up. Drove it on the car hauler to where it is now at my new place. I swapped out the running gear with a 94 Expolder. 3.73 gearing & still a dog except when in four low has plenty of power.
Had a 89 Ranger 2.9 4x4. Engine out twice: at 102k, due partly drilled oil hole needed rod bearings. Ford dealer supplied crank had oversized counterweights which scraped piston skirts when warm. Developed same lifter tick at 120k. Fix Or Repair Daily!
Knowledge and experience is a wonderful thing to have! You have a diamond in the rough , and thank you for a wonderful video! I look forward for your next video like Bronco 2 roof leaks!
Thanks Steve, I enjoyed the video.. cheers
A little work and it lives! A good base to build from.
Keep 'em coming!
Beautiful Project ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I just got my 86 bronco ii xlt up and running again. I love this vehicle!!
Cool looking bronco. Just what I need for a fishing rig to pull my boat.
Isn't it cute an old baby bronco😺😁😎
Yeah, I remember it from JYD🙉🙈🙊
THNX👍💪🍻🦅🦅🦅🦅
yea buddy bring it on great stuff
What a great looking vehicle, I'd like to see more for sure
Nice work. Love it when some rescues bronco 2's. I've had 3 now, just love them. 2 were stock and last one is my overlander. Good job troubleshooting.
I believe there's two fuel pumps. One on rail, one in tank. I had an 86 2.9 ranger. Same tick. Added MMO. Quieted some.
Yes there is a low pressure pump in the tank as well. I was told they replaced both pumps but since the rear one is not working and the fuel gauge does not work I am wondering if they did the rear pump at all. We will find out soon!
@@ThisWeekWithCars yeah. My fuel gauge quit also. I replaced both pump and sending unit. May want to carry a spare icm in your glove box. Ford's answer to the Mopar ballast resistor. Excellent content!
Love the Bronco II, looking forward to more videos.
That is a sharp looking Bronco.... Keep the project going
wow that's awesome Steve
Always a bit of a worry when seeng that work has not been done correctly. Very wise to be cautious. It will be nice to see this one back in working order. Thanks again Steve for an interesting video. 👍👍
Should be a good project!
I really appreciate how you explain things.
Nice work Steve! Keep the videos coming! Cya on the next one
I love the sawblade wheels. Definitely keep em!
I can just hear Jessie now
KEVIN !!!
cycle the key three times to build fuel rail pressure
Bought one for $500 (no rust in Texas) been messing with the wiring for over a week and finally got it running.
Next video might be a wiring video on this Bronco II.
I think that's a 88
I've been working on a b2 as well - moved it around the house and let it sit for a few months and when I went back to start it the ignition switch, key cylinder, inertia switch, AND on-line fuel pump were dead. I've never had so many things break on me at the same time lol
These do have a problem with the stupid clip inside the steering column. You may need to remove it and make sure the big plastic switch on the right side is still held tightly.
A typical JYD vehicle!
Nice 👌
Good video. You should be able to also test fuel pump by checking for resistance of the pump motor winding.
yes please!
Yep ya need to go through the important safety driving systems. Good call on the fuel pump. I really hate incompetence in wiring and basic trouble shooting. You are lucky that crazy Ford aluminum ignition module still spit out fire
Nice work.
Steve, I'd love to see a video about how long gas can last in an old car and what you do about it. You seem to crank 'em over and have good luck, do you check the gas in any way first?
With some vehicles that have sat for 20 years or more the fuel often smells bad, plus there could be rust in it from the fuel tank, thereby clogging the fuel filter and also if stood long enough without running the carb could be contaminated and the fuel lines could also be bad , so empty the fuel tank, replace the fuel lines, clean out the carbie, change the fuel pump if necessary , make sure uve got spark to the plugs and it should start , unless of course it sat so long the rings corroded to the cylinders and pistons then u need to go through a whole other procedure
Really hope you go through this thing! I have an 87 and would love to have a series for reference!!
Looks like an 86-88. 89 was the first year of the facelift
I was thinking the same. 89 also went to one pump in the fuel tank and did away with that frame mounted stuff
yes. more videos please
Excellent
Really enjoy trouble shooting will it run videos! Thanks!
Not a bad start, shouldn't take long to nock that out, unless there is rust everywhere then I recon you done well, all the best to you and your loved ones
I bet you could make that truck run and drive real nice Steve, even quite the ticking.
Working with those mixed-up polarities and wire colours is probably going to make your brain hurt until everything's aligned properly. :-)*
I agree, was thinking the same.
OMG, I had one of those. 😱😟 had plenty of problems with it.
Thats not a 89 model, it's older because of the headlights. I have two B2's 87 and 89.
Headlights, bumper and grille. I also have both generations, and '88 and a '90 currently. Had an '89 Eddie Bauer some time ago. They're great little rigs.
'88 or older, '89's are a different body style. '89's use a single fuel pump in the tank, '88 and older uses a low pressure pump in the tank and the high pressure pump in the frame rail under the driver seat.
Thumbs up Steve.
Steve,i think somone is running a scam,i,ve had a msg from you?saying i,ve won a prize.
Cheers.
I have one of these I'm trying to fix the clutch on.
Unfortunately mine doesn’t have a clutch.
I though it was a filter under the driver lol I didn’t know I have 2 pumps lol
Bruh broncos are siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiick
Also, it sounds like all of this was Jesse 😂
The cause of most plagues!
That's an 88 or before. The front end and dash cluster are of an 88 or before.
Sorry but that takes effort to screw up the wiring when you only have two colors to choose from. Those are probably fun but at least the early ones make for poor highway vehicles. I had an '84, the very first one, with a carbed 2.8L V6. Way underpowered, and much too thirsty for such a small engine. The only worse car I recall driving was a 1984 Fiero 2M4.
Probably toasted the new pump when they put it in
I assume this is one that Kevin from JYD hadn't got around to looking at as I would have been surprised if he had made those stuff ups with the fuel pump wiring.
He is the one who put in that fuel pump.
That's not an 89 unless it's had a front end swap. That front end stopped in 88.
I had this exact year and color I loved this truck but I had a fuel delivery problem it would just die going down the road and I had three mechanics look at it and could not fix it someone before May really messed the wiring up and no one could figure it out and added some sort of aftermarket computer I would still have it if I could have fixed it.
These have a problem with the wiring in the steering column, I would bet the issue was there, the connector is terrible and can vibrate loose causing the fuel pump to randomly stop. I thought I was going to find that issue with this one but it was the actual pump instead.
@@ThisWeekWithCars thank you sir I sold it to a neighbor Who hasn’t done anything with it yet I might bad back from him
It looks like a color blind mechanic installed the pump and the battery,
Yep, all those Bronco II tap like a sewing machine.
That's either not a 1989 or someone swapped the front faccia for a 83-88 "bull-nose" one. 1989 was the first year of the "Brick-nose". en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Bronco_II
Nice work! One question, how was the gas still any good after sitting for years?
Probably doesn't have ethanol in it.
That’s a special kind of lazy for someone to realize they’d wired the new fuel pump wrong and instead of fixing it, bodge the wiring on the truck to match. Yikes!
It's a wiring conundrum! Is red really red, is black really black? Nobody knows!
That's deep man , really deep .
1:17 1:24 1:27
That's not an 89 bronco that's an 86 or a 87 89 broncos had sealed Headlights
Door says built in late 88 I don't have the title yet so I don't know what it says on it.
Could also be an 88 lol, 88 was the last year with that style headlight
It's a Bronco II. Let it die lol
