Hello there, first-time commenter on anything. Great review of the fx 9706.
If you haven't already done so, try the APC thin electric 7 x 5E, same as a280. It turns it into a rocket ship. It's a bit fiddly to make it fit but well worth the effort.

The specs state you can use a DSM or SBUS receiver in the stock board but I haven't tested a DSM receiver.
