PLEASE REMEMBER, this is how I do my V-necklines, you can do it however it is best for You! There are multiple ways how to achieve the same result in sewing and this is simply one of them!
You have taught this soon-to-be sixty year old lady sooo much! Love your energy, your voice, and how you explain what and why you are doing what you are doing! Just goes to show you, “Old dogs can learn new tricks.” Thank you for sharing your talent!
Excellent instructions. Having a different color neck band made the visuals easier to understand. Basting makes a lot of sense; it doesn’t take that long and ensures success. Time to sew my vneck!
I love watching different techniques of achieving the same result in sewing. I always learn something from your videos, even though I have been sewing for at least 45 years!
Thank you for this video. I just sewed a V-neck on a t-shirt with this method. The hand basting made a world of difference. I got the neckline in perfectly on the first try!
FINALLY!!! I've watched a number of videos on 'how to create a V neck. Some of the videos that I have watched are so complicated that I just hit the 'x'. Your video has made this super simple !!! I will be attacking a T shirt tomorrow. Your videos are great and easy to follow and understand - I love them ! Thank you !!!
Thank you so much Alisa! Great timing as always - I’m just about to make up some new T-shirts. I’ve been sewing for more than 50 years and haven’t seen such a simple and effective way of how to add a v neck to jersey fabric. As a full busted woman, I do find that the slightly wider neckline, and rounded v shape is so much more flattering for me. (A tight short v shape is not flattering on heavy busts and a round neckline is the same). This is so helpful, and I’m off to make a start. Thank you so much for your precise and gentle teaching method - it unlocks the creativity of so many of us, and you give us wings to try new techniques all the time. Most precious lady ❤
I have been having trouble with my neck bands lately. So, I revisited this video and walked through your steps (yes, even the hand basting) while completing my latest shirt. I usually convert crew necks to a V-neck. I think I just got sloppy with my measuring. Because this shirt came out perfect. I am a fan of topstitching. That is the only thing I did different. Your work from 2 years ago really helped me today. Thanks for the help.
Thank you very much! You explain so clearly and concretely, with all the details. And you're beautiful, and you have a wonderful voice, it's a pleasure to study with such a professor! Well done! 🌺
This tutorial helped me so much. I had already cut the front into a V and didn't know how to create the nckband. Thanks so much for the easy to follow video.
Whoever says you have a cartoon voice is just jealous. Your voice is just fine. I love you videos and tutorials. I have learned so much from watching you.
You have a talent for simplifying (potentially) complicated things! I have watched a few videos about V necks and about drawing them and sewing ribbing on, etc, but you make it easy:)
Best video I found on this topic! You explained it all so well and I could easily follow. Thanks for showing how to actually measure the tip of the v, it's not always right angle ♥ xo from Switzerland
Well Alisa.... you've made it look easy....now for the acid test!! My Hubbys t-shirt is awaiting its neckband. I don't quite get how you know how long you need to make it....maybe I missed something...but here we go! Thanks so much xx
Thank you so much. You gave me the information and demonstrated it so well. I’m ready to go tackle another v-neck and I have a feeling it will be terrific after watching your video.
Cindy, so happy that you're diving into sewing! If I may suggest - it might be a bit easier to start with standard round necklines, and then do a v-neck as your next project :)
@@ThoughtfulCreativity Okay, I’ll take that advice. I’ve been drafting my pattern and screwing it up more than once. Starting a new one tonight or tomorrow. I’ll go scoop neck. I think you have a video, I’ll go find it. Thanks!
Another great tutorial. This is really adding a neckband. So many tutorials are actually doing a bound neckline, but calling it a neckband. Thank you for explaining and demonstrating how to draft the band at the V. You are so very talented, and patient with "dummies" like me. Would you show us how to add the piece of binding approx 3/8-1/2 wide & 5" long that covers the stitching and seamline, but only in the back neck area ? I have some tops that have this and it makes the back neckline softer. And it looks so nice and finished. Do you just measure and stitch the piece on both sides? It looks more complicated than that.
Please, could you make a video of how to sew a tunic, hip length, bell shaped, with added cut material in the neckline, buttons and collar...like the Indian cotton blouse pattern? A demanding project, but I believe she would explain it to you perfectly. Thank you very much.💜
Hello there, I already have those tutorials on the channel, all you have to do is put them together - the sleeve, the body and the neckline. Just look through my videos and you will find what you are looking for.
@@ThoughtfulCreativity Thank you very much for your quick reply. You are wonderful, indeed. I've been watching your videos for days, and you explain really well, but I still haven't come across a tutorial on this type of blouse. There are a lot of tutorials by other RUclips creators, but you especially respond to me, step by step, clearly and concretely...so, I have yet to review...it's a pity, I didn't meet you before....all the best!
thank you so much for this instructional video showing me how to do this v neck . I've cut out a jersey dress and the crucial instruction page is missing!
You have taught me so very much. I have sewn for many years but have just recently started drafting my patterns. Your explanations are spot on! I would like to make a small contribution to show my appreciation but was unable to find a coffee account for you. Do you have one?
Awesome ! I have a 2 request can you make a tutorial on the top you are wearing and a tutorials on ruching the aide or ready to wear tops I have tops that just give me no shape and they are just sitting in closet 😉
Another wonderful video! Bravo. I live in a small town without a fabric store close by. Can you share a few links to actual fabric you've purchased online? I want to use the ribbing you show and I'm on the hunt for a nice t shirt cotton jersey!
Amy, hi! I actually have a full video about it with examples of what I bought online and what I made from it. You can just search for "where to buy fabric online thoughtful creativity".
Hi, do you have a video showing how to convert a crew tee shirt neckline to a v neckline? I like the way you sew yours in the front. Other videos show how to make a crossover but that's not what I want.
Hi! I made my first r shirt yesterday after watching your video on how to draft a pattern from an existing shirt. I want to make a trial run of the next garment, which will be done in a cotton jersey as well. How do I effectively use muslin, per your recommendation, to check proper fit for a garment to be made with stretch jersey?
Hello I'm trying to work out how you are sewing the neckband strip for the short ends, I've measured and cut for the V, but when you stitch the v is that right or wrong sides together? thank you
If I am making the neckband from the same 2 way stretch fabric as the t-shirt, do I cut the neckband on the bias or by the length it stretches the most?
Hi Alisa I enjoyed watching this video. Thank you. Would know if you could help me. I always put 2 rows panty elastic in my grandchildren trousers How would I measure if I want to put a broader elastic in.. Help. Help
Ethel, hi there! You would need to make the casing for the elastic twice the width of the elastic +1/4" (so that you can slide elastic in) and add seam allowance.

hello miss alisa i have a question for you and i hope you answer me if i want to sew a t-shirt with a non stretchy fabric should i take the mesurments as they are or should i add some inches so it would be the right size from the pattern to acctual t-shirt and thank you
Kaw, I invite you to see it for yourself and draw conclusions: 1) here's how you draft a block with STRETCH fabric - ruclips.net/video/QN97H6MyZaA/видео.html 2) here's how you draft a block with WOVEN (non-stretch) fabric - ruclips.net/video/QAWF-mFXiTM/видео.html See the differences and you will find the answer to your question!
Could you shorten the neckband and cut the correct angle in the same step? Like just pin the ends at the correct angle to measure the length and then shorten and angle the ends once you are happy with it? Just wondering if there is a specific reason to do it the other way.
Update, I was able to sew the perfect V neckband with this tutorial in two tries! First time I attached it to the shirt inside out 😜. From now on hand basting is a must do!!

No, it is a knit, there is no reason to cut on the bias, unless your knit has little to no stretch to it.
How to cut and sew a V or wave side bottom shirt or dress?
Hi Alisa I know I ask alot. How much ease do you add to a childs short pants
No worries, I would do 1/2" on each side.
