It's not just the fact that she's playing this at age 10. It's the fact that she has such a mature sound for her age. She definitely has a big-time career ahead of her.
The synergy with the orchestra is unbelievable. I think this little girl is not (only) a "10hoursaday-pianist" or a "pure talent". I think she has a great maturity to have a balanced life and keep her practice on a very high level. I heard she also has hobbies like reading and dancing, so she also manages to have fun. It's obvious that without studying your talent does not make you have this skill, but also it's not an enormous time of strict studying hours that makes you a pianist like that. I wish Alexandra all the best in her whole life, not just as a pianist! ❤️
as a piano teacher, let me tell you, most of my 10 year old students can't play an octave, just one, their hands just aren't big enough. they'd go straight to the hospital with flaming tendons if they tried what she does at 2:44. She has perfect genes for this, there's very few pieces that's outside her reach, maybe some prokofiev/rachmaninoff, but at 13/14 she will nail absolutely anything, Gaspard, Islamei, you name it
Well, the size of your hands isn't crucial when piano playing is concerned, but for some pieces, it can certainly help to have larger hands. Still, let's just mention those who had small hands and become wonderful pianists: Josef Hoffman, Emil Gilels, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Alicia de Larrocha to name a few.
The size of hands is in fact important. Some great pianists had and may have small hands, but I am a pianoteacher and have to deal with very small hands. I cannot play most of the romantic repertoire as it is written. I can play it with some tricks and if I leave some notes away. But a bit more range in my hands would make my situation much easier. And, it is a question not only about the size, but also of flexibility. Some people can strech their hands to the limit, some people have very stiff bones, even if they train it every day. I really wich, there would be two sizes of pianos available for everyone, one with normal keys and one with slimmer keys.

This is the most perfect performance of this horrendously difficult work by Felix I have ever seen either live or on video/film. This so serious little girl is a sensational pianist, certainly she even at 10 years old is one of the great virtuosos of modern times. My only two wishes are one that she doesn't let her clear adoration of music rob her of her childhood, there has to be time to play and be a child. And secondly that I wish they had not cut the video at the end because in other video's of her she shows a beautiful and delightful smile, but understandably saves it for the end.
