  • In the South China Sea, Chinese coastguard ships have attempted to deny Philippine vessels access to Second Thomas Shoal island for the third time in five weeks.
The Philippine coastguards were escorting civilian boats carrying supplies for troops stationed on the disputed territory.
Al Jazeera’s Barnaby Lo reports on board one of the Philippine coastguard vessels in the South China Sea.

If I am in the government of Philippines, I would sink dozens, even hundreds of another retired ships (or plan to be retire ships) side by side with BRP Sierra Madre. I don't really care about China.
But before I sink them, I would choose ship with helipad, load them with weapons, ammunitions, food stock for one year, communication tools, cooking equipments, first aid medical equipments, entertainments, etc.
It's better and healthier for the guards living in the bigger and newly sunken ship, than in a rusty decades sunken ship. And they don't have to send the supply every week or every month.

At this point in their excremental series of behaviors, I don’t think China’s standing in the world’s eyes can get much lower.
But… I’m sure the CCP will attempt to lower the bar even further… it’s something they’re seemingly naturally good at.

The mandate that was given and honored by the international law of the sea in the Hague in 2016 for the Philippines, under the UNCLOS which were, China the first signatory to sign its agreement being one of the supporting signatorial members of the world's UNCLOS that deals with the respect of a nation's right of 200 nautical miles EEZ. Go check it out.
Btw every security member of the UN had also in the past rejected UNCLOS
So dont bring up UNCLOS as an excuse.
China had stated to settle through negotiation.
China will NEVER give up for just Philippines its historical rights .

  • @HoneyboyDominguez-dw8if
    @HoneyboyDominguez-dw8if Год назад

Just to put things in its proper perspective, NO SINGLE country owns the entire South China Sea just as no single country owns the entire Mediterranean Sea, Arabian Sea, Baltic Sea, Caribbean Sea, Black Sea….etc. China doesn’t own the South China Sea simply because it has the word “China” in it. Take note. The Arabian Sea is not owned by Saudi Arabia. The Gulf of Mexico is not owned by Mexico and the Indian Ocean is not owned by India. Usually these bodies of water were named as such in maps for directional or navigational purposes in the past or giving homage to patrons of explorers and discoverers or cultural or mythical beliefs which carry religious, symbolical or historical meaning.
It is called “South” China Sea since it is located “South” of China. This body of water is also called “West” Philippine Sea because it is West of the Philippines.
In the annals of records of World War II, as a consequence of Japan’s defeat, Japan surrendered the Paracels, Pratas and Spratly Islands in the South China Sea based on the Cairo and Potsdam Declarations. The Republic of China was claiming these islands however, the terms of the declarations did not specify China’s sovereignty over these islands, archipelagos and surrounding waters. In 1947 as stated in the Chandos Asian Studies Series, China officially came out with those “dash line” claims on the South China Sea after showing a U-shaped figure in the map in 1946. Nonetheless, the United Nations which was officially formed in October 24, 1945 never endorsed nor recognized this dash line claims of China.
In 2016 the Philippines won in the UN Arbitral Tribunal declaring that China’s 9 dash line claim over the South China Sea is without merit. China never participated in the proceedings stating that it doesn’t recognize the Tribunal’s jurisdiction. China further asserted that it has historical claims over the territory. However, during the proceedings at the UN Arbitral Tribunal, the Philippine delegation submitted historical maps from 1136 to 1933. These maps included ancient Chinese maps. And the maps revealed that China exercised sovereign rights in the south only until the Hainan province. And this sovereign rights never extended to the large portion of the South China Sea as what China was claiming. This facts could be read in the minutes of the proceeding of the Arbitral Tribunal. So even historically, China’s historical claim couldn’t stand!
What is obviously concerning is the fact that China is a signatory to the 1982 UNCLOS law wherein it embodies the concept of EEZ or Exclusive Economic Zones of countries. By signing the law, China is recognizing the EEZ’s of countries that are within the South China Sea. And by signing the law China also further recognizes the right of international navigation or freedom of navigation by other countries. The fact that China is presently violating this rule is not only ludicrous but also hypocritical on itself. It is as if China took a sacred oath benevolently and then betrayed that oath intentionally.
In retrospect, China should not have signed the UNCLOS law. By not signing, it would have at least a principled stand on its claim today. China knew it had claims in the South China Sea since 1946 but it still signed and became a signatory to the UNCLOS law on December 10, 1982. This alone is an obvious display of bad faith on the part of China on its present actions in the South China Sea. By contrast, the United States was never a signatory to the 1982 UNCLOS law but it had been respecting the law in practice through Executive decisions and binding itself voluntarily with it through the years despite not being a signatory to the law. Since according to America, the UNCLOS law is binding upon all countries that are members of the United Nations. Signatory or not.
China’s historical claim on the South China Sea is truly outrageous and absurd. If we give validation to this ridiculous historical claims over territories then countries such as Iraq, Iran, Egypt, Greece, Italy, Turkey……etc. with Ancient documented history such as Ancient Mesopotamian, Babylonian, Roman, Greek, Persian, Ottoman, Egyptian…etc culture will start claiming the Seas or bodies of water or territories around them. These countries will be claiming historical claims that are actually older than the historical claim of China. And they too will be citing historical accounts through historical records. But the fact remains that these countries doesn’t do what China is insanely doing.
Moreover, if China continues with this narrative of historical claim, can China then claim parts of Korea? Or Vietnam? These countries were part of the Han Dynasty in Chinese history as recorded in history books. Can China also claim Siberia and the entire Central Asia like Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan…etc.? Since these countries too were part of the ancient Chinese empire. Furthermore, if China insists with its historical claims over territories then China must yield and surrender to Mongolia’s historical claim if and when Mongolia asserts its historical claim over China since China was under the rule of Kublai Khan in history.
This is why ancient historical claims are really absurd and ridiculous. Because there will be no stop in moving backwards in the past for a certain claim that existed depending on what era that claim existed. Ancient? Medieval? Renaissance? It could even reach the Ice age with a Prehistoric archaeological claim. Ancient historical claim must remain what it is….ancient, since it has no place in the present setting of things.
However, China knows that its claim cannot be sustained whether historically or under present laws. It just has to state something whether these bare unreliable historical claims or twisted historical facts are verifiable in order to justify clearly and obviously what China is doing. And that is “bullying”! Specially when it bullies smaller nations like the Philippines. Psychology experts are correct in saying that bullying is the result of the bully’s insecurities. No wonder China’s historical claim is not only shockingly ridiculous and absurd but it also insecure.
If China’s appalling and abhorrent historical claims is not corrected, then what would prevent China from claiming other bodies of water or territories in the future? With its outrageous unreliable historical claims does it really want to dominate the world? China just came out with another version of their “official” map in the South China Sea. The 10 dash line map which occupies a larger portion of the South China Sea. This angered not only a new country like India but also its friendly partner Russia! China’s new map includes the entire Bolshoi Ussursky Island and this claim doesn’t sit well with Russia.
I remember the pact Germany and Russia (old Soviet Union) made before World War 2. The Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact. A nonaggression pact between the 2 countries. This pact was later ignored by Hitler himself when Hitler decided to invade Russia. A backstabbing incident by Hitler! Will there be a repeat of history with this highly publicized Russia-China Alliance today?
According to Isaac Chatiner in his article at the New Yorker and other social platforms like the New Atlantic Council, one of the reason for the Ukraine war is another “historical claim” from Putin that Ukraine has a long history as being a part of the Russian empire. This according to them is revising history courtesy of Putin’s version of history. With China also being a maestro in making outrageous historical claims. It can claim historical rights over Siberia. As I said earlier Siberia was part of the Ancient Chinese Empire. What would prevent China from making this crazy claim in the future? Will there be another backstabbing incident by one? Or among themselves? Well China’s new 10 dash line map claiming the entire Bolshoi Ussursky Island is a start.
