Father and Son by Cat Stevens you would love ❤
"Where do the children play", is really good (and makes you think!)
In 1971 some (53) years ago. The great Folk Rocker and singer/songwriter Cat Stevens had a great album titled "Tea For The Tillerman." On that album "Wild World " was one of those songs. I remember when I was a 17-year-old junior in high school. Cat Stevens was one of our greatest singer/songwriters. Now that I am 70-year-old senior citizen. The song still brings back great memories of my high school youth and the joy I had listening to such memorable songs as this. Great reaction as always. How bless we Baby Boomers were to have grown up at a time with poets like Cat Stevens who put their poems to song were an everyday occurrence. Priceless! Florida USA.
Tea For The Tillerman is the best album.
@@baskervillebee6097 It truly is one of the greatest of all times. Thanks for your kind reply.
VERY blessed!
@@wendyryder2708 Yes we were. Thank you for kind comment. God Bless.
This guy wrote some beautiful songs. He also did a beautiful cover of the Hymn "Morning Has Broken "with piano arranged and performed by the genius Rick Wakeman.
Yes it is
Cat Stevens always hit the spot... this song is certainly no exception. LOVE your thoughts and reactions. He really touches the soul... and another song that does that beautifully is "RUBY LOVE"... an amazing song that doesn't get enough love. Cheers!
Maxi Priest also did a cover in the reggae style, in the 90's from memory
I like Moonshadow, it’s short and lyrics might seem weird but I love it.
Mr Big released a cover version as a single in 1993.
Couples who can bond together thru Cat Steven’s music are destined to be together. My wife and I did in our late teens. 50 years later, we are still together!
Love your reactions!
Peace - from British Columbia, Canada!
Wow, 50 years?! That's something 💚 All the best for the future! Warm wishes from Romania ☺️💚
That was sweet
When I was in the sixth form back in 1972, all the boys were into Led Zeppelin and all the girls loved Cat Stevens. Truth is everybody loved Cat Stevens. Everything he did was brilliant.
Cat Stevens first Top Ten hit. Love it!❤ Yes it's his. He wrote it.
"Father And Son" beautiful lyrics and very clever presentation!
I would recommend also Jim Croce.. just like Cat, he has great songs. I personally like ‘bad, bad Leroy Brown’ but he has other great ones like ‘I have to say I love u’, ‘Operator’, ‘time in a bottle’ etc…
Jimmy Cliff had big hit with this song in the 70’s.
I too heard the Jimmy Cliff version before Cats
Wild World is probably my favorite Cat Stevens song! Stevens is a great songwriter!
he wrote and sang the big cover hit The First Cut is the Deepest which you may want to hear.
PLEASE do Father and Son! It is such a beautiful song! Very emotional~
I'm 70 and Cat was such a great part of my youth, every time l hear him l feel young again. Thanks for the rejuvenation! I'm glad you love him so I can hear him more, keep them coming he has so many hits. Peace ✌️ ☮️ ❤Gary
Father and Son a must.
Jimmy Cliff had a hit and a great version with this song which he recorded in 1971.
As others have said "Where Do The Children Play" is well worth a listen, it shows that Cat Stevens had environmental concerns for the human race long before these issues became topical or fashionable. His two albums Tea For The Tillerman and Teaser And The Firecat contain some of his best work. Loving your reactions guys, keep 'em coming.
I watched someone else read to this song! Wow~ he was very prophetic with this song! loved it back in the day but never really listened to the words. Great song! They should react to it.
And,I might add that these 2s reactions are so so genuine, heartwarming and insightful too. The best around. Dominica is a force of nature. André!!!! Your wife's absolutely beautiful.
And guys. If I may make a recommendation for you!!!! Emily's linge. The song -a moment in time . Beautiful evocative voice and a beautiful composition of a song. I'm pretty confident you'll both enjoy this
Cat Stevens always gives you something to think about
Looking through the comments, I notice that no one has suggested 'I Love My Dog' which was Cat's first single, released in 1966. I always remember the DJs laughing over a song about a dog by a singer named Cat! I'm sure you will like it.
I also remember Matthew And Son.
This one was huge for Cat Stevens.
Excellent reactions from both of you. Glad you're enjoying Cat Stevens output. On his 3 Breakout LPs, Tea For the Tillerman, Teaser and the Forecast + Catch Bull St Four, there's hardly a bad song anywhere. I'll recommend
"Hard Headed Woman" & "Miles from Nowhere" from the first and 'Sitting"
and "Can't Keep it In" from the last.
I'm certainly enjoying first listens to music I grew up with, and still play.
Excellent songs no doubt
I mentioned earlier that music is my refuge, my sanctuary and my therapist. When I said therapist, this is the #1 album that comes to my mind. It helped me thru some very troubled times in my youth, and still does to this day. Every song goes straight to the heart and soul. Particular faves include "Miles From Nowhere", "Sad Lisa", "Father and Son", "On The Road To Find Out", and I could really just list every song!
If you haven’t yet, check out his On the Road to Find Out and Oh Very Young…..
Try The First Cut is the Deepest. Another Cat Stevens song that has been covered many many times.
You guys are among my very favorite reactors!
Thank you 💚
Another great reaction. My favorite Cat Stevens song is "Father and Son". Not to be morbid, but I've thought about asking it to be played it at my funeral. So pensive & beautiful, like Cat himself.
I loved this song when I was growing up in the 1970s!
The song was covered by “ Mr Big” in 1993
The only thing I would ask of you is to check out how he has lived his life. One of the world's most inspiring men in all that he has done and taught us.
Please check out his song "lady d'arbanville"! It is such an amazing song!
I was around 19 when he was the biggest star in the music world in 1972/3. He crosses genres for me. You can be a rock fan or pop, but you'll find something fascinating and intriguing there.Really really liked his work at the time. Now,at 70,as my musical taste has matured, only now am I appreciating the true majesty of his songs . Profound, meaningful Ballad/folk classics abound I'm getting so much genuine joy listening to his stuff once again. This, along with Father and son. And remember the days in the old school yard are my particular favourites
My mother dedicated this song to me as a young 18 year old going out into the big, wild world. My smile is the one thing I've always liked, so this is a double hitter for me. 😎😎😎😎
Have you reacted to Peace Train?
Yep, amazing song. Please search in our videos 💚☺️
Yes, agree with some others, quite confidant you would enjoy "Father and Son"
Please please please - 'how can i tell you ' next !
most likely to bring on the waterworks, perhaps my fave.
His song Father and Son is a masterpiece!!! He sing from two perspectives. The father's words in a lower octave to convey calm wisdom. The son's words in a higher octave to convey anxious yearning. The song is a disagreement between the two. In the latter half the father is in the foreground with the son in the background, and then the son comes to the foreground and father's lines are layered behind. It is a masterpiece!
Give Moon Shadow a try guys from the Teaser and the Firecat album. Great stuff. Simple song but absolutely beautiful.
As A Child I Listened To "Tea For The Tillerman"..Owned By My Eldest Brother..He Never Knew..I Was 11 Yrs Old..Cat Stevens Taught Me About Life And Love Without Me Even Realising..All In One LP..Just Hearing His Voice?.. It's Tissue Time..
maybe your thinking of the Mr Big version or Jimmy Cliff.
Must do - 'how can i tell you ' next !
He has offered so much with his magic & spirited songs. Cat Stevens was singing songs in my home while growing up & they always offered a sense of fun, comfort & energy that were all good. His lyrics & instruments are pretty perfect, with wisdom & grace. Thank you!
Love this song i was a wild child,i ran away from home at 15 when this song came out , hitchhiking from New York State ,went to Mexico, & settled in Arizona seems like this song would play every time i got in someones car .🎵🎶💗Great reaction 💗
A few years ago, I remember seeing live concert footage of Cat Stevens. I think if you type 'Magic Cat' tour or 'Magic Kat' tour into the SEARCH bar.....something will show up. AHHH. TRY 'MAJIKAT EARTH TOUR-1976
I love you're reactions - Cat Steven's is amazing. I would bet you would equally love JAMES TAYLOR - Sweet Baby James or Fire & Rain would be two top suggestions.
Another excellent choice of song!!! Can I make you a suggestion? If so, that of reacting to listening to an exceptional composition by the American folk rock singer (originally from Texas) SHAWN PHILLIPS entitled "She Was Waiting For Her Mother At The Station In Torino And You Know I Love You Baby But It's. ..” (1970; and commonly called “Woman”). If you (and many of your viewers) do not know this song or the particular voice of PHILLIPS, then I can assure you of a magnificent discovery. You certainly won't be disappointed. Quite the contrary! A true masterpiece of the genre. Thanks.
[NB: I recommend using the recording from the album 'The Best of Shawn Phillips, The A&M Years' available on YT. The sound is excellent.]
You really need to listen to Father and Son and I Love My Dog.
PS.I think my favourite album is his album 'Foreigner'.There is a track called 'Foreigner suite' it is beautiful but is 18mins long.I really recommend listening ❤
The band, Mr. Big, an American rock band did a cover (so did a lot of other people) in 1993 so that's probably the one you remember.
Wow, they ALL did their covers in '93! Cool! JK I'm making fun of your sentence structure like an A hole.
@@freddiejupiter442 I knew someone would make that observation and you did not disappoint! I originally had the parenthetical after "1993" but I moved it to after "cover" to avoid that implication. Apparently, I failed.
You should watch the movie HAROLD AND MAUDE, the entire movie is set to Cat Steven’s songs.
I think you would really appreciate Jim Croce (pronounced. KRO CHEE)
I recommend “Wedding Song” by Noel Paul Stuckey and “Weekend in New England” by Barry Manilow. You will love them.
It was Jimmy Cliff!!!!
Great reaction.
Its like a child girl, with your reaction - Dominika. Don't you agree Andrei :-)
Love from Norway
Hello Andrei and Dominika, here's a clip I thought you might like of Cat singing the same song in the legends spot at Glastonbury Festival last year 2023. As you can see his voice is still great at 75 years and his songs still have the same power. Hope you enjoy. 😊

Love seeing the exact moment someone realises that they've heard something before from another life! 😊
You guys must please listen to "Boy with the moon and star on his head"---by Cat Stevens....an amazing and beautiful song and story. Peace
You must react to his other great song "Foreigner Suite (1973)." It's considered a 19-minute Rock Opera. It's also the title of the album. In the early seventies Rock Operas were written and performed by various artist. In 1968 the Broadway Rock Opera "Hair." Was a big hit. And in 1979 it became a big movie hit. In 1973 the Rock Opera "Jesus Christ Superstar" was the smash on Broadway, the Movies and the Album. The rock group "The Who" wrote the Rock Opera "Tommy (1975)." Then came "Bohemian Rhapsody 1975" by the group Queen. Foreigner Suite is a long song he felt was not played enough on the radio because of the length of the song. He felt it was one of his best songs he has ever written. I agree with him. Florida USA.
Maxi Priest and Mr. Big had successful cover versions of the song, released in 1988 and 1993.
How about some more old great blues??
Please try listen to J. Geils Band album "Full house"
The best live album ever made on this planet.
Cheers from a Viking 🇩🇰
'If I laugh' is a great live song here on the tube. But most everything should be from the studio at first. There's 10 songs just off "Tea for the Tillerman" alone. I love to imagine these artist walking on to the Idol, Voice, AGT shows and imagine how the judges would react.
I LOVE it when you guys hear a song that you have heard before and loved! That feeling of epiphany is awesome to watch!
Tea For The Tillerman is one of those albums that changed my life. You two should listen to the whole album just for your own lovely experience. The track after this is Sad Lisa ... a beautifully sad ballad.
Good song, however 'Morning Has Broken' is the one for me from Cat Stevens. It was performed at our wedding nearly 42 years ago.
A interesting fact about Cat is that when he changed religions and said some nasty things about America he was not very well liked and fell off the music charts like a lead zeppelin and pretty much was forgotten by the music world, but with that said I did enjoy his music.
One of my favourite songs of his
Cat Stevens wrote some gorgeous songs with meaningful, lovely peaceful lyrics.......apart from " im gonna get me a gun" !!! Im not even sure he'd be allowed to sing it nowadays😮
Had to go listen to it. Never heard of it before. Interesting 🤔
Maxi Priest coved it in 1988 and you may be thinking of that version.
Try lady d”Abanville , a simple song with just guitars of all his songs I still pick it above all others
You might be thinking of Jimmy Cliffs version.
His father was Greek and his mother was Swedish. They owned a London restaurant where he and his sister were waiters at an early age .
Maxi preast and Jimmy cliff both did covers of this song
A reaction to the first cut is the deepest from the same artist cat stevens
"Ruby Love" and "Lady D'Arbanville"
React to Black And White by Three Dog Night
This was covered by Mr Big in the 1990’s
Aww damn she pushes him around. That's what happens when you let women lead period.
I love Cat Stevens. I have heard this song hundreds of times. This is the first time I have heard the lyrics in a spiteful light. It's almost like he is saying, "Get the hell out if you want. See if youyou can do better. Try and get by on your looks or smile alone." Maybe the times have changed, or maybe I am cynical in my old age... But listening and reading the lryics now makes me feel like he is degrading the object of his affection. Still love his music. "I will always see you as a child, girl." Hits me the wrong way. I will listen again in a bit and see if I change my view. This was always a feel-good song for me. Not so much today.
Yusuf/Cat Stevens once said in an interview that he was actually talking to himself. I hope that makes you feel better 😎, because to be honest, 'I'll always remember you as a child' sounded very condescending to me too.
@@DrStrangelove3891 Hmmm... Talkimg to himself about himself or talking to himself about her? We all have fleeting thoughts when having to go through these things. Hopefully we are mature enough to hang on to the positive thoughts in the end. I dont think I ever truly listened to the lyrics before. Even though I would happily sing along. I think the dichotomy between what I percieve as spiteful lyrics and the upbeat tempo of the music is bothering me here. I just enjoy the music.
my favorite song by cat is the hurt great tune !
Home in the Sky Buddha
and the Chocolate Box
This is my favorite song that Yusuf ever did, but he has so many awesome songs.
check him singing How can I tell you..
Maxi Priest covered it
I know Mr. Big did a cover also Maxi Priest.
No great time from this album is hardheaded woman that’s a good one
Maxi Priest did the cover ye are thinking of 😊
Maxi Priest covered it.....a reggae version.
Wide world, morning has broken and Matthew and sons are cat Steven’s essential listening
Maxi Priest did a great Reggae cover of this song :)
Mr Big covered this song..
Such a pleasure to see the joy on your faces as you listen to one of my favourite artists ever
You should definitely give his "Father and Son" a spin along with "How Can I Tell You"
Another dynamite reaction from you both, had me grinning from ear to ear 😂
mr big sing this song as a cover and this is very nice too.
Love Cat Steven’s music just loved what ever he did he was such a beautiful person who did so much great music. Another great reaction from you two.
Check out Moonshadow
one of the best "break up" songs ever.
