Thank you Mcdougall's. Your insight, discussion and guidance is very helpful to me, its great to hear this perspective about food. I've recently become aligned and I feel better. 🥔🥦🍞
Something that I think that would be McDougall Compliant when eating ethnic food that Is Indian are Indo-Chinese noodles served "dry". Our son's girlfriend is Indian and she recommended this dish to me and it is really delicious and when you order the noodles "dry" that are not oily at all.
We are getting quite creative to avoid eating in restaurants with friends and family. We will bring our own food and meet at the airport park to watch aircraft, or head to a cemetery- yes, a cemetery picnic, which used to be very traditional!
10/4/22.....Loved this Video.....Mary had some good answers too ......love them both and Heather is great too..... she was in Hawaii doing this interview and discussing some Restaurants she has been eating out while there, and Dr. John & Mary knew them all, they lived there for awhile.....this Dr. has traveled a lot this is why he's so smart.....love listening to him.....love listening to them all.....keep up the good work all of you....
Aloha to Heather and Dr. McDougall and Mary. There are some good Vegan places here except not sure about the oils used. I had a miso soup noodle dish for lunch with lots of steamed greens. We miss the McDougalls here.
Indian food is awesome and very vegan friendly. When I go out to eat it is a rare cheat treat (that I only ever do with friends), so I don't bother to ask for it with no oil or anything. As long as it's vegan I'm good. But Indian food doesn't seem that bad to begin with in terms of health, it's not nearly as greasy as others like Mexican food is sometimes very greasy for example. If you are that picky tho, well I'm sure they will give you exactly what you want, for all my life people from India have been some of the nicest most positive people I've ever met, (coming from an American minority).
It’s sad and frustrating how little we can eat out since retirement because the food is practically floating in oil. We do not live in a big city, so we are so limited.
I'm following Dr Caldwell Esselstyns stricter very low fat WFPB diet....we basically NEVER go out anymore unless we absolutely HAVE to....bc here in Australia I'm sick of paying $20 for a green salad
There is an alternative. Invite your friends to a picnic! Bring your own food, enjoy friends, the outdoors and have a good time. My parents when young had little money to go out to eat, let alone take kids. We would go to the park with the family across the street and their kids. Kids would play at the park playground and they'd call us in for the best tasting food because we got to eat it outdoors.
Dr Mcdougall I've been plant based almost 3 years and a friend invited me to a buffet. Now I know I have made mistakes and slipped up a bunch of times on the starch diet but going out to eat without checking to see it they had potatoes or steamed veggies was a huge mistake. Known as the best buffet around, but trying to get something that had fiber was a challenge. Just about every animal you could cook was there, mostly fried too. There was literally nothing for plant based options. I like big potatoes but they had little patatoes,ok fine,i'll eat them. The asparagus couldnt be served it without butter on it,can't we just have it steamed? A little garden salad, about the size of the palm of my hand, not much you know you can't have too much fiber. My friend didn't like that I was unpleased but after all your dealing will people who are agressive and not really people pleasers and like you have said, some people just cant see past their own dinner plate. Im on a starch diet,I mess up sometimes but 98% Im consuming starch with no oil and a little salt. Im told not to say anything to the waiter because my friend had to make them feel good since he made some friends and didn;t wanna ruin their relationship. Like a good person (known as a Vegan to them) I say nothing. What can you say, you're near a casino,so these people with these addictions like gambling eat this kind of food, that's what they want and so thats what they serve! Little do they know it's not only making them sick and overweight but it's fueling their addictions,it makes them obsessive and compulsive, they just cant see in helping others,it's all about the money, greed, take take take whats free and take the $,but I want my health. You cant put a price on your health. Im very familiar with making smart business decisions,I know what people need and so I try to help them but sometimes it nearly impossible because they just cant be satisfied. I found a better way is to just try to help people for free or little $ so you can buy food to live. Out of everything we own including our possessions ,our health is number one no matter how big we become, money will only get us so far, without good health we cant enjoy our life.
A number of years ago my husband and I joined about 30 other vegans at a restaurant for a planned vegan meal. We were so happy to spend an evening with like minded people. We hadn't given a thought to health, You guessed it, everything was drenched with oil. Hey, I'd stood up to doctors I wasn't about to be intimidated by chef. The waitress was exasperated. I calmly asked her to just bring us some raw vegetables and a knife. She came back in no time with two beautiful plates of attractively arranged cut raw vegetables. She warned us to not expect this every time. I let it go and never again took it for granted that vegan means healthy.
We eat rice almost daily, but 2 weeks ago, a friend sent me article that rice has high arsenic. Is this something we should be concerned of? Since then, I tried cooking with other grains like quinoa, buckwheat, millet but its not the same. I am on a starch based diet, we eat rice with beans
Yes it was in Johnson & Johnson baby powder and I used it on both my kids and still used to buy it, love the smell....I would like to know also, so HEATHER if you are reading these comments, can Dr. McDougall answer this question.....was is a different Talc, or is talc ........talc......is it the same ???
I tried keto and was doing ok on that but it was hard to get all the fat in that they want...it was gross... it was killing my cholesterol and my new doc told me to get off that and go on a McDougall diet. So I got a book and started reading and starting it tomorrow. Doc didn't say if I should transition to the diet or go "cold turkey" (no pun intended.) Did anyone else go from Keto to this diet? Any suggestions?
Nobody replied, so I started the diet cold turkey. It is a lot of the food I've been craving. I made the Mayan Black Beans and served it over rice. Leftovers will be a burrito tomorrow for lunch. I hope it's okay to just do this. I went from practically carnivore to vegan overnight. But there have been no bad effects so far.
Well for me anyway, cold turkey going from Keto to McDougall diet did not cause me any intestinal distress or any problems at all. Doc insisted I stop Keto, but he didn't explain if I needed to transition or not. So anyway, if anyone ever sees this, going from Keto to the diet cold turkey was really easy. I like the food, stuff I've been craving a LONG time.
I'm 4 days in. I like the recipes in the book. I was worried because I was eating quite a lot to get full, but actually I have lost 2 lbs. I'm watching the fat to put as little as possible in my diet. I made the recipe on the McDougall website of Kale and bean soup. I never liked Kale but thought I would try it anyway because it called for the specific beans I had on hand. Used white pepper instead of black. And I liked it.
Had to eat as soon as I got home today. I had cold rice in the fridge. I got a can of Fat Free Refried beans and heated that up with the rice and had some cut up tomatoes, green onions and cilantro. I literally made it in 5 minutes. I was unhappy at how much sodium that can of FF refried beans had. I think I should make my own from dried and keep it on hand. It made me realize I need to have some quick meals sometimes, even if just leftovers because I want to stay on the diet. And I was very hungry when I got home. I don't want to stumble because I'm in a hurry.
It has been one week since I saw my doctor and read the book. 6 days on the diet. I have lost 5.2 lbs, always eating if full. Eating a snack if need be between meals, even a late night oatmeal. Dr. McDougall's recipes were really good. This was an effortless weight loss. So many diets leave you wanting more. Some make you go through the hunger pangs for a window of time, but I didn't make myself eat less. I ate till I was full and stopped before getting uncomfortably full. I was satiated. THIS is the way to lose weight. Yummy food that you get to eat all you want of it. I have more to lose, but this is not a weight loss diet alone. It's a lifestyle. To be honest, I don't care much about food animals. But I do care about health.
Went to a Mexican place yesterday and got rice refined beans and corn tortillas. And I've spent 5he last 24 hours being sick as a dog with a migraine and a bloated gut . It's been fun let me tell ya . Not again . Something they put in there did a number on me

Really enjoyed this show. Made me feel like I was on Maui. Thank you

Aloha from Long Island, NY. Seriously I would rather eat at home. I don’t trust restaurants. Unless I buy a salad all bets are off!
I am also from long Island, NY. I feel the same. I do not trust restaurants. I cook all my food.

Hmm, I dunno, but Asians have been eating rice at almost every meal for eons. They seem to outlive other cultures.
Places where there's lots of pesticide runoff have high arsenic levels in their rice, like Texas.
Ordered tofu chow mein once & it was swimming in chicken broth white sauce! Ugh
