- From block parties to the neighborhood watch, Chicagoans are known for taking great pride in their neighborhoods. But one South Side group of neighbors is turning it up a notch and pooling their money together in an effort to jumpstart economic development in their community.
Congrats to them! Glad to see a news story like this. I hope their story spreads out and we have more examples like this. An inspirational and empowering story to me.
*BAND* together...
The type of news we need to see more of, with ppl coming together to improve upon their lives and their community around them. Congrats 7051 LLC! 🎊
the residents have the best intentions at heart but they are doing things backwards
don't build stores in hopes that people will come into the neighborhood
demand tough policing from the alderman in the are especially for the commercial strip, that would reduce crime in the area and call stores to tell them about the low crime working class area
then stores would open voluntarily in the area
They "band" together.
Wonderful idea! I wish them success! I’ll definitely patron their businesses!🥰🛒🛍💰
Examples like this are what makes a community a community. ❤️
Beautiful
Outstanding!!
They are amazing! I hope there is a ripple effect! 👏🏾👏🏾
This is a great story. Good Luck guys.
Awesome 💪🏾👍🏾
Great story
Community engagement! This is beautiful.
Hell yeah, more of this. More of this. Rise up!
This is awesome 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Wish you all the best of luck so proud of yall
This is such a powerful example of group economics. I heard them say 27 people are in thevinvestment group. In the words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr "These are some simple things that we all can do together."
I love this. I hope this becomes a trend for the area, when neighbors personally invest in community like this, the potential is astronomical. It's great to hear great news like this.
This is what’s needed and the best way to make south shore prosper again.
We need more people stepping up and doing this

@@robinsss no it has to be a community thing. See none of these business and so forth are owned by the community it’s all outsiders. So people don’t mind stealing or vandalizing those business’s
I don’t see that happening to the things owned by people that actually live in the area. I can even see the local gangs looking out and making sure those business’s are protected
@@meetstepsisalcoholicdouche6167 first of all the gangs have no ethics so they will steal from anyone in the neighborhood
secondly, if the community residents go to the alderman and demand tough policing be used throughout the community they wouldn't have to worry about anyone stealing from the businesses
This is so beautiful I love seeing stuff like this. It makes me 😢 tears of joy💯🌹
Yes it is
I love when instead of tearing history down, people decide to preserve it. So many buildings are torn down when they are still in good shape to give it a second life. Which also helps preserve green space. As someone who loves historical things like towns and such, I applaud these people. These buildings are what started our towns and cities. I do not like when people tear down old buildings that are still good to be used. These buildings are the closest thing to time travel and if you tear them all down what is there to admire about a place? What is there to appreciate how a place evolved, how a place started out.... How do you appreciate history when you destroy it?

Great news! We need more action like this for Southside neighborhoods!
I used to live in South Shore and passed by those buildings everyday going to work, I don't miss that area, I've since moved to Hyde Park. I do hope they get their wish.
Well, Hyde Park was my neighborhood and where we lived when I was aged 10-23. I went to Parkside grammar school and Hyde Park high school. Some time in the 1960s, and now living abroad, I returned to visit the family and inveigled a friend to drive me out to the old neighborhood only to find, upon arriving, that it had all been torn down. Not a single apartment building nor private home (in the side streets such as Cregier) was left standing. A big disappointment. I guess something was built there afterwards but I never saw it.
Need more like this...
This is awesome. So happy for this to happen.
Community economic development at its finest.
Excellent community revitalization!!!!!
It is Band not Ban 🧐
Found the right comment
I love this
This is beautiful
Yes it is
slowly gentrifying the neighborhood don't be fooled
IA,
Get Real! That is a Real Possibility
In This Day and Age. Wise Man!
RCJ/LEO
if they provide affordable housing to low income residents that can work out
Great job! I love these people working FOR their own community! Excellent job!
Instead of complaining they took action.
This is such a blessing!!!
We love Good News from Chicago
Absolutely love seeing this!! Can’t wait to see the great businesses that will be an asset in our neighborhood.
this is so beautiful...i9 hope it does well!!!
LOVE IT!!!!
Amen praise God
God didn't cut a check.
@@ShainAndrews ok but we can still praise him
Amen yes God amen im with you amen

Well Chicago’s first River’s Casino employee’s will need housing so why not South Shore good thing this time Richard Daley is not around to build his expressway to cut off the South side this time around
did the expressway cut off the south side?
i thought it did the opposite
Sounds good, sadly gentrification will happen or it will become just like the South Side Chicago. Let's see.
This is the South side of Chicago 🙄
Negative thoughts lead to negative RESULTS.
@@surviveunplugged shows how bleak reality is
gentrification can work out if the low income people have affordable housing
i think that's what he's turning the building into
@@robinsss NO! I know for a fact, I would never pay high rent to dodge bullets to get home and after all that find a crackhead pass out in my bed. So No.
Great
I LOVE the hope. I grew up in South Shore.
Great but don't let the white savior come and gentrify ‼️
So much better than International real estate investors. GOOD LUCK!!!! 💖💖💖💖💖
Step in the right direction my opinion
"Band". . . Not "ban".....
Wow love there when them activist going to think like this
What a wonderful story. We need more enthusiasm 👏 like that.
Yes we do amen
Kudos to these people. This is exactly what they need to do.
The American Dream wow
Damn. Good for them. I’d have a hard time splitting a pizza with my neighbors at the moment. Much less a building.
About time
Take care of your community
Keep up the good work
The white knight the same old refrain.
INDEPENDENCE FIRST, interdependence to build. We have to "build" or American communities and NOT rely on wealthy investors. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY (WORK) FOR. KUDOS Chiraq!!!
Look at cousin Hubert.
Um, it's "Neighbors BAND together", not ban.
🤣😂🤣 hugs stranger..
@@asabovesobelow7981 hey stranger!
Like seeing us moving in the right direction
Why don't they turn a store into a community / residents area? They would have a place to be without having to pay again. Or not. The hallways probably work as a community space...
Neighbors “band” together not “ban”. Who is doing the editing at WGN? Jeesh!
Exactly. And people call you "grammar nazi" when you point out spelling mistakes, and say: "But everybody knows what they meant to say"...
2:57 she wants to open bakeries and restaurants smh good luck hiring humans.
Band, not ban.
Umm, "ban together"? Shouldn't that read "band together"? Sheesh.
Millions of vacant storefronts. Good luck when the people you invite in stop paying.
ok cool neighbors are "banning" their vital point of Jackson. lmao
note that this comment was before the title was changed and had "ban" instead.
Funniest sh I ever herd, chicagoans are known to take pride in there neighborhoods, lol yeah right
Does the person writing your titles also pronounce the word "ask" as "aks?"
Try neighbors BAND together...
This is good news for a change.
“BUT” this city is owned by some already high profile names, they are GD & BD! Revitalizing dats are gone Znd if you make it through the night you damn sure getting your store initiated & if no insurance, your just out. Also better not have far to walk to your stores or homes because car jacking is the new trade most are learning early on. Neglected far to long and they ain’t giving back this city willingly
Waste of money n time, area is gonna be invested with nothing but joggers💩😂
Really? If you move in I'm sure property values will go down because of your ignorance!
It’s very nice area, this is what the area needs. Good for them.
Hey Alex Rodriquez, why do you care? Guess what? We will no longer let you monitize failure on our behalf!
