Hello Shango066 I like your videos and you have a great sense of humor. On one of your videos your cat walked by and interrupted you hahahaha 😆. You told him to go find a mouse hahahaha
I've got a garage full of players I plan to start working on this coming spring. Too cold in the garage to work on stuff in the winter and I'm getting too old for that kind of discomfort. Keep up the good work. It's entertaining, educational, and inspirational to the rest of us tinkerers.
I had a video from my RING doorbell camera of FEDEX stopped in front of my driveway. The driver had the side door open and was digging for my package. I watched as he droop-kicked a couple of packages and physically threw one against the back door. I copied that video and emailed it to his home office in Dickinson ND. I received a call from the manager who assured me that this particular driver no longer worked for FEDEX! Hope he was not lying, I never saw him on this route again. Those RING cameras are worth their weight in GOLD, my kids gave it to me a few years ago for Christmas!
Looks like a pretty cool cat :) Got one were I work that showed up around 4 years ago . She apparently wanted to be around people but was as feral as feral gets. Took a good couple YEARS to get friendly enough to pet or pick up. Wish I knew her history. She's come a long way since then :)
You're supposed to keep that cat. It's meant to be. She's there to bring you more joy into your life. Whenever someone pisses you off with a lousy packing and shipping job, she's there to divert your attention and reset your attitude. Nobody is pissed off after petting a cat.
Aww, she does the kneading thing! They only do that if they´re really happy and relaxed. That´s not scratching, it´s a happy thing. And if she comes back after being chased off- that´s got something to say. Kind regards
The cat is a GOOD thing! The cat will keep your mice down and you just throw her a bit of food here and there and let her supplement with mice. Having a cat around in the videos will only help your viewership too, I bet.
that was some ones cat, that either got out or was dumped. you can not get near a feral cat. not knowing the cats start in life, and how long it was with its mother, hunting skills are learned by its mother .cats like this one, do not know how to hunt .I have cats myself, and to turn a cat like this one loose, that person just signed its death warrant.
"Difficulty in Servicing" & Spin it Off!!" key phrases. Try running those lines across auto manufacturers now. I cannot remove the oil filter on my vehicle without soaking my forearm or the frame below it. The filter is just about inaccessible--tucked in near the steering shaft. I have done oil changes since 1968 and for the most part, all were simple clean jobs for an experienced diy. I miss my Siamese kitty--a favorite in the late 1970s. Keep the cat!!! When they get to know you, they are family.
Listeners, do yourself a favor and change the RUclips replay speed to as fast as it goes and watch this again! It is hysterical! :) --Sooo much complaining in so short of time! I love it!!
The cat is called a "Dilute Calico". Almost all Calicos are female. Researchers used to go around buying the rare males & thats where the term " money cat " for a calico comes from. They are very nice cats. We had one but lost it to cancer. Probably related to the breed. Be sure to help her through the winter. A little food & a sheltered place in a tool shed etc... BTW its time for one of your great rants. Plenty to piss & moan about these days ! LFOD !
Having a cat around is a good thing. Provides companionship and helps to keep small pests away. Would make a terrific shop cat. Could name it "Moto" from your other latest player! 😃
Yes it irks the snot out of me when you get sloppy packaging and especialy tube radios and they leave the tubes in the sockets and 9 times out of 10 at least one tube gets broken I have a cat I got at an animal shelter had him 16 years and my dog is 9 they have always played together. Now I kind of have to watch my dog because he tries to play rough and the cat might get hurt. My feeling to if a person gets a pet they should take care of it.
More people are interested in the mystical infections of a housecat than the devoted rare craft of conservation this restorer displays here. As my grandfather we addressed as Sir would say, we are developing a nation of basket weavers. Actually, that sounds good now but for a man who was in the WW1 trenches he's be overcome by how many people can't weave a basket today.
You should definetely keep the cat! She looks so sweet, and she will warm up to you! And there is a good chance she will get used to your dog :) She looks very healthy too 😃You are now part of my favorite best electronic youtubers with cats! I have also dealt with some very rude eBay sellers through the years, I am also irritated at people who do bad packing jobs. I agree with you that once you buy an item, you own it and have every right to ask for good packing. I recently purchased a hallicrafter S-20R which I plan to do a complete restoration on, it is the biggest item I have bought from eBay yet and I sincerely hope the seller packaged it as well as I asked to, if it arrives damaged I will be sad because it was in fair condition for it's age, with a good polish and waxing it will look quite nice again. Shipping cost has become absolutely outrageous, I avoid buying from eBay these days due to it. but hallicrafters do not show up locally, not the prewar ones anyways. So I had to buy this one on eBay, because I have always wanted one of these and now finally one in fair condition popped up for a very reasonable price. So I made the decision to purchase it even though I had to pay about 300 dollars in shipping, this is a radio reciever I want to keep for the rest of my lifetime, so it's allowed to cost. 😃But shipping has become incredibly expensive, aswell as import costs. just a couple of years ago, shipping for an item from the US to where I live was around 50-70 dollars if it was somewhat heavy. Now you have to pay at least 200 dollars even for something that doesn't weigh more than a maximum of let's say 5kgs.
Go to Harbor Freight and get a 1/4 inch drive socket set (if you dont have one) and a 1/4 inch swivel U joint adapter. Gets you onto almost any stupidly placed nut or capscrew.
Calicos are over 95% female. Generally Calicos don't like being held, but can be very sweet. Find her a good home, please. At the very least catch her and get her fixed. Check with a local animal shelter about who will do strays for free.
Aww, I wish I lived near you, I'd take her (It's a She, Calico's are nearly always Female). As always, I enjoy watching and learning from your videos. All the best to you!
@The Relaxation Station they always are!!!!,the other type of cat that is a real gem is, the male "TUXEDO". I had one years ago( old age got the best of him) he looked like "SYLVESTER THE CAT"!!!, so I named him "SYLVESTER"!!!!, he was the perfect gentleman!!!!., a real lap cat, he always liked" shoulder rides". I really miss the guy!!!!.
I'm the same way. If I didn't live so far away I'd take her in an instant. At one time I had ten cats, all rescues, but old age has taken three and I have one more that will be passing away soon due to old age as well. None of my cats are allowed outside as there are far too many cat haters around (I've buried four of my neighbors' cats because they were deliberately run over, even to going off the road to kill them). Calicos make very good pets. It does look like this girl pas picked Bryan to be her new owner. Cats know when they are around good people most of the time.
@The Relaxation Station , cats want to make sure that you are fed also, I always thanked him when he presented me with a gifted mouse, and then when he was not around I disposed the dead mouse!!!!. it sounds like you pissed off this cat, and they do have really good memories!!!!!.
@The Relaxation Station ,the cat that I had was from a grey/ white female cat that was dumped, she was packing kittens to be, and I let her do that, all of the kittens were "FIXED" including the mother . sylvester was one of those kittens. that litter of kittens were inside/ outside at the start, and when they got older, they were not interested in going outside anymore .all of the cats had front pterodactyl pads, and were "LICKERS", they would clean my hands/ face. I could see your cat wanting to leave, and come back if he was able to "REPRODUCE", my cats are striped of that ability, so the male cats have a tendency not to "WONDER" ,and have a longer life span( 15-20 years).
@@radiotvphononut Absolutely radiotvphononut,, good record player's are hard to find, I used to collect them everything from a 39' am recorder to an old Steele record player, with a 6" Speaker....
Most of the shelters now are "kill" shelters. It's an animal. It's well equipped to live outside, especially in the relatively mild climate of the South. Besides, it looks like you're made a good friend.
My year! And it's been a long time since I've seen a RTVPN video! Great stuff. Yes, the transit screws are out when we bought new changers. The instructions told us to screw them in before using the changer. And to back the screws out when transporting the units.
I don't think that cat is your pet. She has chosen you as HER pet human. I wouldn't be surprised if she even wins the dog over, and they may end up being buddies. So, I hope you enjoy your new cat! She clearly enjoys you!
FWIW: If you are transporting a vintage Hammond tone wheel organ the tone generator MUST be locked down. That is a big, expenseive, irreplaceable component. You would think people would know to do that.
Owners don't pick the cat, the cat picks the owner. That's frustrating about the record player being damaged. I also agree it's very hard getting good deals on stuff anymore. I guess the plus side of that is that it keeps me from becoming a full blown hoarder. I need to start restoring what I have and start selling stuff to thin out the hoard some. I have a lot of vintage receivers that would probably sell for a decent price after restoration so I could make my money back on what I payed and what I put into them.
It is to bad you are not in the NY area, we are moving to Florida permanently and I cannot take everything that I have collected over the last 45 years, I will be selling over 300 record players and radios, I can only take so many as we are moving into a 1000 square foot condo. And I REFUSE to deal with eBay, no way. I was able to buy at flea markets cheap back in the late 1970s and 1980s, those were the good days for hunting.
Goodness I thought I was the only one who got irked with sellers putting the arm down on the mat to take the auction photos. That's not how they were sold. That's not how they were displayed in the shop window. Whenever I see that (especially flippers trying to get rid of high end turntables) I back away immediately. If they're too incompetent to realize what harm they're doing then it's an automatic given that they're too incompetent to know how to ship it.
It's worse when they doctor the images to make the items they're selling look pristine and clean; and jack the listing price up to more than they're actually worth. It's a great way for buyers who are clueless about the items being sold to get ripped off!
I'm lucky I don't need to go online and risk shipping damage, scams or the like. We got a vintage store here that is like walking into an ancient Kmart from the 60s and I've picked up some great vintage stuff (AA5 radios, record players, entire stereo systems, wind-up watches, etc) and they've been not only seriously underpriced ($25 for a Pioneer stereo system with 8-track, record changer, AM/FM, speakers in working condition or a $9 AA5 GE radio that works) but most have not needed more than seriously minor repair (Pioneer 80s dual cassette deck needed belts, the watch was overwound, etc).
it's nearly conspiracy theory-worthy of how these shipping asses handle parcels. like they know it's old tech inside and resent its existence with some innate hatred for superior machinery.
You are better off getting an individual to follow your packing instructions. An organization won't simply because there's literally no incentive for low paid fulfillment clerks to follow them. They just want to get their ERP system to say "shipped".
Sadly the folks that flip and ship record players don't watch your videos and they are too dumb, cheap and-or lazy to pack correctly. On the other hand I have received a few that I bought on eBay that were incredibly well packed and the shipping folks could not damage it. The worst packers use a few handfuls of packing peanuts and other useless stuff like Walmart plastic bags and whatever pieces of cardboard they have laying around. Of course the player and the dust cover are going to get damaged bouncing around inside a cardboard box. but what do they care. Dogs can be trained to get along with a cat, and that was a nice cat. 😺
Shame people still can't pack things right. Friend of mine got a bakelite bedside lamp radio on eBay for a good price. Got sent in a box. No packing material. Nothing. The box was bigger than the radio too. EOL... That's a cute cat too. Hopefully it'll end up in a good home whether it be with you or someone else.
I was really surprised that Motorola would put their name on a one-tube piece of junk in the 60's. Their other stuff from that era was solid, good quality.
Every manufacturer had/has a line of 'budget' models, and that's what this was. I have some catalogs (PDFs, not the actual paper booklets) from Magnavox and Zenith, and they sold low-end stuff like this, too. Go look at an old Radio Shack catalog some time. A lot of their 'budget' stuff was pretty crummy for its time (but even so, it stands head and shoulders above a lot of 'mid range' products today). If Radio Shack was still in the business of selling stereo equipment, you can bet your bottom dollar they'd have a Realistic- or Optimus-branded Crosley Cruiser clone, and they'd sell it right alongside their premium stuff.
There are some tools with a pivoting head/tip which can reach into tight and otherwise unreachable areas. Car mechanics have had to use similar ratchets and other pivoting tools when working on a vehicle's engine. Maybe that's what you need if you should ever encounter another gizmo gadget with inaccessible nuts, bolts, and screws.
We had a stray cat hanging around here for a while. A few months ago I was taking care of the neighbors dogs while they were out of town and the cat ended up in there pool. There dogs about ate it for lunch so I guess it jumped in the pool to get away. I had to put up the dogs and grab the pool net to get it out before it drowned. I got it out OK and saw him the next day. But not since then.Animal control refused to pick it up. Maybe someone took it in.
This was awesome. Open up the with the unit in pieces, a good level tongue lashing, couple of good life lesson reminders and close with a handsome looking machine just waiting for some more love. I can see why you grabbed it.
I remember watching your older videos and seeing you had nice stuff that was destroyed in shipping, this is a big problem I understand, some time ago you bought a Emerson bakelite 45 player and radio combination that used the RP-168 changer, a rare set, smashed in shipping. I was upset seeing that and it was not even mine.
@@radiotvphononut shipping company's think it is football season all year long, that is the main reason why I will never ship anything, thank god I am still in NYC for now, when I sell, it will be pick up in person. And pay cash. I hear to many horror stories about shipping. My cousin sold a antique " Roseville " vase from the 1930s on eBay. An original. And the buyer returned a reproduction to she and filed a pay pal claim that the vase was a fake. This is the way of the world. And it sucks.
Motorola record player MP 50 chassis HS-1178. A one tube wonder ( 25EH5) with Selenium rectifier. One of those typical kiddie phographs from back in the day. Goodwill might be OK for buying books and records online but vintage record players, well don't expect too much from them. I'm sadly totally allergic to cats. Hair, saliva, etc. I'm getting itchy already. She does appear to be quite at ease with you Bryan . Except she doesn't like the dog!
I think you were meant to have that cat---look at how many times it came back, even after being trapped and animal control came to get it. I hope you keep it. As far as the record player goes, I don't think I'd put that much time and money into a one-tube wonder. Even if you added a preamp stage, it likely only has a 4" speaker, and still won't sound very good. Nowadays, if it doesn't have a preamp stage, I don't want it
WHY? If you wanted something with high fidelity, you wouldn't be buying one of these. I had a much, much cheaper version of this made out of that compressed newspaper crap they used to build them in before particleboard as a 5 year old (it was a hand-me-down) in the mid 70s. That is more or less the intended purpose of them, for kids.
You would be far better off building your own cabinet with hardwood, then fitting your own valve or transistor amplifier, you could even add a class D amplifier to it, it would destroy anything else for sound quality and build quality.
Greetings: I think you enjoy waiting for non-technical problems to appear just so you have an opportunity to blame someone for their failure to do things to your satisfaction. The low cartridge output may be low level and low distortion if you are fortunate. I would think that by the time that you already have already learned & built solid state pre-amps that you might have built an extra one to use for testing, but that may be asking you too much. Before spending money on a cartridge maybe you could listen to its output with headphones to see if it would be happy with a low cost preamp. Since the idler wheel is uncaring about its diameter, I would try finding an o-ring from most home-improvement stores, whose diameter was right for the metal wheel, but the thickness was small enough so it will work with the stepped drive spindle. As the demand for 78 rpm support has likely dimished significantly, I would consider selling the unit without 78 rpm record support to make cartridge replacement simpler. Dismiss complaints about the 78 speed selection due prohibitive replacement costs. There are turntables that support those disks, but cost more. Do most changers have the needed neutral position to avoid damaging the idler? Those that do not, I suggest exploring the chance of converting the 78 rpm speed position as a NEUTRAL position (I know the spindle is the major problem here).
I see that the bolt is slotted. Get a drill and drill a small home to get a screwdriver thru and remove the bolt. but for gods sake stop whining over everything..none of us want to hear the wah wah wah
Those Fed Ex and UPS people do not know, or understand how to deliver a package 📦 the right way. They also do not understand “cream puffed” with these radios, or record players. I understand how you’re feeling with all this. I’d like 👍 to see ya save this record player/AM/FM radio if ya can. Fed Ex didn’t do a good job with their delivery 🚚, but, always remember, this record player/AM/FM radio is still WAY BETTER than a 2010 (and such) Crosley. Your friend, Jeff.

I offered one seller additional money $25 he didn't accept it but the item did arrive ok.
UGH The tonearm on the platter "for display". What makes them think it's a good idea?
No thees days thay don't care about packing they throw it in the box I don't blame you for being angry
it's nearly conspiracy theory-worthy of how these shipping asses handle parcels. like they know it's old tech inside and resent its existence with some innate hatred for superior machinery.
pretty cat... give her time, she'll lap up. Sometimes they go thru some hard times and need years. To warm up.
Looks like a great record player
Can’t wait to we hear it
Funny, I was just thinking when the next radiotvphononut video will be a few hours ago. Glad to see you're back after a month!
At least you're not doing AM stereo or frankentv stuff like Shango has lately. (smile)
Feed a cat and it owns you!
Watch Mr Carlson's lab or D-lab and learn how to 'man up '
Shame people still can't pack things right.
There are many disabled people that work at Goodwill. How about a little sensitivity. Sheesh.
Yes I agree, but you can't let them trash the stuff that people order just because they are disabled.
Most of those people down there to Goodwill got a minus IQ
This was awesome. Open up the with the unit in pieces, a good level tongue lashing, couple of good life lesson reminders and close with a handsome looking machine just waiting for some more love. I can see why you grabbed it.
I remember watching your older videos and seeing you had nice stuff that was destroyed in shipping, this is a big problem I understand, some time ago you bought a Emerson bakelite 45 player and radio combination that used the RP-168 changer, a rare set, smashed in shipping. I was upset seeing that and it was not even mine.
Yes, and that one was sent by someone who should have known better.
One of those
typical kiddie phographs from back in the day. Goodwill might be OK for buying books and records online but vintage
record players, well don't expect too much from them. I'm sadly totally allergic to cats. Hair, saliva, etc. I'm getting
itchy already. She does appear to be quite at ease with you Bryan . Except she doesn't like the dog!
someone kept that in great shape then some idiots had to wreck it
I think you were meant to have that cat---look at how many times it came back, even after being trapped and animal control came to get it. I hope you keep it. As far as the record player goes, I don't think I'd put that much time and money into a one-tube wonder. Even if you added a preamp stage, it likely only has a 4" speaker, and still won't sound very good. Nowadays, if it doesn't have a preamp stage, I don't want it
I just looked and it has a 5" Motorola "Golden Voice" speaker in it and their speakers (whoever built them for Motorola) were usually pretty good.
Lofl.....you sound like an older slightly crustier version of me!!!! Duck I HATE piss poor designing/engineering!!!! Burn the frikkin shite!!!!
You would be far better off building your own cabinet with hardwood, then fitting your own valve or transistor amplifier, you could even add a class D amplifier to it, it would destroy anything else for sound quality and build quality.
Your rants are more epic than Bidens meltdown.
Greetings:
I think you enjoy waiting for non-technical problems to appear just so you have an opportunity to blame someone for their failure to do things to your satisfaction.
Some life is pointless.
