Omg I just had this at my Vietnamese friends place on Chinese New Year’s Eve!! His sister brought the cake all the way from Vietnam. We were soooooo full from dinner but when she was frying this with egg, couldn’t stop eating. It’s sooo insanely good!! Thanks so much for posting the recipe!!!
In my family, nian gao has been the brunt of jokes like fruitcake. I just made this for fun and everyone LOVED how soft it was. Not overly sweet. Just perfect fried in egg. Thank you for a fabulous recipe!
Oh my! I’ve been looking for a recipe of this I’m glad I can use my instant pot. Thanks!! Could you make a playlist with instant pot recipes so it’s easier to find?
My hometown, my mom will use bamboo leaves at the bottom and we use the hand made bamboo bowl? Idk what it actually called, but the container was made by bamboo, then we put the liquid which mix with the brown syrup and the flour. Then, steam. It so good
Hi Angel . I make your Nian go from you older recipe . It came out perfect . Thank you. I was wondering if you have a reciepe for Chinese beef stew for the instant pot ?
Hi Angel! Another great recipe & my family loves it! I recently was at my parent’s & used their new-ish IP from Costco (a year old) that doesn’t have the steam function like the older IP I have at home. The cake didn’t turn out as good. Any suggestions of how to cook it in an IP without the steam function? I need to redeem myself! Thanks so much!
Wow, that’s so sad the newer IPs don’t have the steam function. You could try the same times and instead use the lowest pressure settings. I haven’t tried it myself yet so if that does work out, do let us know. Thanks!
Angel Wong's Kitchen Will do! Not sure if all the new IP are without the steam function or just that one sold at Costco. Hope it’s just that one. 🤞🏼 Thanks for the tip. Next time I make it, I’ll let you know for sure how it turns out.
I made the cake according to the recipe but mine came out soft and gooey even after overnight refrigeration. Not firm. Wondering if I should add regular rice flour ad well?
Angel Wong's Kitchen Saw it! Thank you very much. Don't mind I ask a few more questions? Do I place the mixture onto the normal pot after the water boils or even before the water boils? Is the rice flour 500gm?

Making this today! Do you naturally or manually release the steam?
Did you use the entire brown sugar syrup?

I didn't know it's that easy. I'm going to try & make this. Can I steam this in just a normal pot? May I know the steaming tips in a normal pot?
Yes, a normal steamer is ok. 👍🏻 I’ve put descriptions and a link to directions for stovetop streaming in the video description.

Hi Angel, can i make the cake in a regular instant pot?
Yumo! ❤️

Golden new year cake
Yummy ❤️
Hi Angel, what's the measurement in grams?
Happy
How long should you steam it for over stovetop?
Stovetop steaming should be about 50 minutes depending on your container size.
Hi
ugh, I kind of want to wait it already but it's like the 5th day of CNY..
I'm distracted by how cute u are
we had a day off at school for TÊT.
😗😗
You missed saying to oil the bowl the GAO was going in. I have a mess on my hands
love love the recipe and cake, but really hate the music, sorry....
It is like "Tổ" cake of Vietnamese
Shucks... I followed this to the letter, and it stuck the bowl, and the middle didn't cook. I gotta try again.
didnt u make this video a few years ago?? instant pot version LOL
I actually hate niangao because it tastes so bland! I prefer other desserts like sweet tofu in syrup :P
All her recipes are not athletic Chinese food, only for ABC easy making
