Thank you. I was going to buy the Roland Fantom G6, but for the price, I can't beat this Yamaha. This will be my first workstation. Wish me luck. Blessings, Tim
@so5p I'm not sure where you're from or your experience with God and the Lord, but we believe in giving God the BEST. Not some second hand used stuff. You can go to a concert and see thousands of dollars worth of equipment and people giving their best, why wouldn't someone want to GIVE THEIR BEST to the Lord in which they serve?
You've got so much fun playing the MoX. You made me smile. It's a great demo and I think you have only scratched the surface of the keyboard. I didn't hear a weak sound, and there are so many others to choose from.
The MOX has the same sounds as the XS, not the XF. With that said the XF has all of the sounds the XS has. I don't know the name of that piano sound, but it is in your XF, but it will sound wayyy wayy different. The filters on the XF and XS make the same sounds, sound completely different.
I just purchased the Yamaha MOX8 last night and it sounds great. The keys are definitely better than on the MOX6. I have owned the ES8 and XS8 as well and the keys seem to be the same. The casing itself seems a little plastic but for the price you can't beat it. Especially for the quality of sound.
@spicyhot231 Not sure about the knobs question, but the MOX is a good upgrade over the ES. But remember, your ES can load samples and sample and the MOX can't. Just look at the MOX as a good sound source. It's not that much of an upgrade to the ES, but way more sounds and better sound quality.
man i feel so bad because i spent 2000 on the fantom g after comparing and tring to choose between the fantom and yamaha xf and now that i bought the roland i went to the music store cause i was still missing the right organ sound too much work to make the real thing on the supposed to b fantom yamaha got it on the money you cant bet that i am sooo sad right now the sounds are so good my wife had to pull me off it darn it love your sound and have learned alot from you god bless and keep you!!!
It sounds better than the ES because the sound engine in the MOX6/8 keyboards is the same as the Motif XS, so you're basically getting the XS sounds for a MO6/8 price, since most places are still selling both and only a price difference of $100-200.
To the guy playing this MOX. You're a great player and I couldn't aggree more about the warm, fat sound. Finally ditched my Roland and I couldn't be happier. But I'm a novice on a synthesizer and when you say "the architecture on the MOX makes it really easy to do things" I freak out. NOT FOR ME. Anything is easy once you know how to do it and the basics os a synth. How can I learn this instrument other than the usual-read the manual, watch the video, go to the Motifactor.Any ideas? Thanks.
I play both guitar and piano. Taylor vs Martin and Yamaha vs Korg....similar type of discussions that go on and on. But , the feel is just individualistic to everyone, so you play what feels right to you.
You starting to make me love that Neo Soul mann ! I love this mann ! I love your impressions dude. You killin' it with that Rhodes especially DoC !!!! Mad respect man!
@mirkuskus The EP's are new in the MOX and Motif XS. You can't get them in your ES. The best you can do is purchase our Neo-Soul Rhodes for the Motif, but all of the tines and DX sounds are just for the XS and MOX.
You were right about the Trillion bass station and their keyboard and pianos sound really good also. Thanks for the advice and review of the synth and the trillion.
When u do the breakdown at 9:34 I love the way you let that last note hang just before you said "nice....very nice" wish you would had let it go a little longer. at 9:50 the ending sounded just as beautiful. Last but not least, when u puton the strings, love the kaleidescope of chords you took me through....very colorful!!!!
The last Korg keyboard I'd ever consider would be M1 or T3. The reason being is that I find color touch screens highly inapropriate (distracting) for a musical instrument. Thanks goodness we have at least one company left which still makes real instruments, and that's the company featured in this video. It's a shame though, becuase both Korg and Roland made very fine musical instruments in the late '80s and early '90s.
Awesome Jamal! I think some of us need to read Leviticus and Numbers-This will show them how serious God takes worship and they will also see the expense that also were involved with the Tabernacle-got to love the Levites! Peace man! Midiman
I agree 100% with what you have said about Yamaha and Korg. I use korg for all of the digital synth work, and stick with MOTIF for just about everything else. (on a side note I don't know why all of the major companies have to name their pianos with similar sounding names!). Organs, are very much a touchy subject that I won't even get into... except that a tube-amplified Leslie cabinet will really make the most difference there.
@elite1keys Changing keyboards won't make you a better piano player. Practicing on what you have will make you better. No use in having a super keyboard with no practice time. The guys that are the best keyboard players, don't have the newest updated keyboards.
I don't know....I had the Motif ES and then the XS going back several years. But then I heard the Kronos and all of those engines and models that you can tweak like mad and that I could drop my entire sample library right on the SSD. I sold the XS in part to buy the Kronos. I haven't missed the Motif at all. Also, I can setup graphically everything I'm going to do in worship on just one screen and at just a touch of the screen, things like sounds, backing tracks and sequences start seamlessly. I thought I would miss certain Motif sounds. But I found similar and in many cases better on the Kronos. Yeah Korg had been king of the pads and synth sounds, but the Kronos is so vast that I can load a Motif sample library inside of it. I thought I would, but I have not missed the Motif sounds. I've had mine since March. I discover new things everytime I work with it. Plus I play an EWIUSB. Since the Kronos is a computer it allows you to plug in USB complaint controllers so I get to play my EWI without a computer. I just plug it straight into the USB on the back. I really liked the Motif, but the Kronos is just on another level. The only thing is that I prefer the feel of my Yamaha digital piano and the damper pedal MIDI'd to the Kronos for pianos only. The Kronos 61 keybed is fine for all else. Yamaha is going to have to step it up to get me back. Also people in church who don't know keyboards said I sounded better since I bought the Kronos. They didn't know I switched from the XS6 to the Kronos. But great review on the Mox6
I just bought the limited edition gold Kronos and have to say it's one heck of a machine I have had it a week a barely scratched the service I also have a Montage 6 great keyboard to but the Korg does outshine it a little especially with the piano sounds great keyboard.
mmmm... well in sound factory it sounds good, it has more sounds than the MO, but i have to say that MOX missed the faders, it helps a lot, they change the transpose buttons far away from the pitch. but it has more cooler stuff that the MO(i have one), easier to plug to a computer, MO doesn´t have inputs. but I love my MO6 for stage it´s awesome to control and it has beautiful piano, EP, and strings sounds.
Hi man, nice review ! I myself am for years a Roland and Korg user (nowadays Fantom X and Triton to be more concrete) . I really liked also how you talked about Roland and Korg users comparing to Yamaha. Haha, I am one of them and guess what: a while ago I also took time and tried the MOX6 in the store and soon it is gonna be my next keys !!! A very good addition (soundwise ) to my setup and a great workstation / good compatible with DAW !!!
hey jamal great video i got a question did you ever played on a roland fantom g because the sound on this yamaha sounds better then the fantom i love these ep`s
MOX: Tone Generator AWM2, with Expanded Articulation Maximum Polyphony 64 notes Multi Timbral Capacity 16 parts (Internal), A/D input part MOTIF FX: Tone Generator AWM2, with Expanded Articulation Polyphony 128 notes Multi Timbral Capacity 16 Parts (internal), Audio Input Parts (A/D, FW*) *1 stereo Part
I just received delivery of a MOX-88, $1,500.00 and was immediately disappointed that it has NO ACCOMPANYMENT mode. I HATE PLAYING ALONE, AND WANT BACKUP WHEN CREATING. I suppose I'm a die hard PSR guy at heart, however, the sound quality is amazing as always expected from YAMMAHA, but not having accompaniment mode, leaves Me pretty lonely ! I may trade for a roland fantom G-7, but only if It keeps Me company ! :)
hey man... video was good! i just have one question... why does everyone have just a plain midi controller and workstations which have midi ins and outs? wouldnt it be cheaper to just have the workstation?
i am buying this keyboard this Wednesday. Just checked out the video to see whats up from different musicians. what's all your take. I use the Triton but always wanted something dealing with yamaha dealing with the motif series because i feel it has better sounds than Korg synths.
just wondering your thoughts of the mox compared to the original MO. is it worth the price difference? would it be a better value to pick up the mo8 now with the price cut?
I like both the MOX6 and Motif XF, However the Yamaha CVP-509, CVP609 and CLP series sound better and more realistic. The wooden box and sample makes the sound of the acoustic piano more realistic and many churches buy them as the main source rather then the Motif or MOX. These keyboard should be brought in conjunction with the CVP and CLP series. IF you are mainly playing the piano and acostic sounds, then I would get the CVP and knock the Motif out. I know many people who choose CVP over Motif
@2468DDT as a drummer, good drums can make you sound better, but only skill can make you truly sound good. you should aim to sound good on the sub-par instruments
@spicyhot231, I tested this out the other day and from what I can tell (as I don't own one), there's one knob for volume and the other knobs cannot be used for volume (as it is right now). With regards to replacing the your ES8 with a MoX, you need to evaluate what is it that you use on the ES8 and what is most important to you. If you're looking at it strictly from a sound engine perspective the MoX has the newer sound engine compared to the ES.
I bought a Yamaha Motif XF8 , but now wish i had bought a 7 because of the Heavy weight of mine MOTIF XF 8 this thing is like 60 lbs heavy heavy for me, got back problems from a 4 wheeler wreck, so taking it around gigs is hard for me, I have a NIce Professional Built Case for it with wheels that was made for the MOTIF XF line. but still do enjoy the Weighted Keys and all but I think i will buy me a XF 7 to go along with the 8 keep 8 in studio take 7 on the road.
The "big MOTIFs" (for lack of a better term, as opposed to the M-series MOTIFs) have much more realistic action. The action on those is actually a bit stiffer or heavier than a lot of other weighted action stage-pianos/synths. For that reason I think it's an especially good fit for someone who is primarily an acoustic piano player.
Hey Jamal. At 9:39 what sound did you change it to???? Is that same sound on the MOTIF XF?? I sure hope so but so far I have not Found it unless I am just a dummy....i thought all the or most of all of the sounds were taken from the MOTIF for the MO true or false. and if that sound is not on the Motif XF then WHY ?? just curious because I love that PIANO and RHODES or DX7 sound what ever that is I was like blown away same as you when you started playing that Sound...........ANYBODY KNOW
@GospelMusicians when i initially saw your reply i was on your side, but i dont think God cares which piano you use, only you/we do. Its about what and why you DO with the keyboard you have. Now, im not saying its a bad thing to upgrade but i dont think its a sin to not upgrade your keys every few years..... my two cents.
Choice was made for me when the VST/editor and MOTIF XS sound. What's funny is that MOTIF XF has the same sound library. Im in a studio all day so........
Did you mean that the keys are like those psr keys? Is there super articulation voices in this board? or similar? Kurzweil PC3LE6 falls in the same price range. Which will you recommend?
Man, your playing is GREAT!!! Very beautiful and technical!!! The synth is also AMAZING! It's my dream) I have MM6. It's also very nice machine for it's money. But MOX6 is legend) Don't you know, what synth will come on replacement Yamaha MM6? Thank you!!!
hey nice video im just wondering though im thinking about either buying the yamaha mox8 or yamaha motif xs8 or korgm50 which one do u recommend for the best beat making and stuff like that
Funny how you mentioned Yamaha keyboards being "warmer" and "fatter" sounding? Now I love Yamaha gear, heck I have run a Yamaha web site for the past ten years but, I find Roland and to some extent Korg to have much warmer pianos and thicker analogue sounding synth pads. I exhanged my MOX for a Roland Juno Gi and am very glad I did. To my ears it sounds a lot richer. Just goes to show how we all hear things differently :)
Hi Jamal I was going to buy a motif 6 or I go for the mox6 what's do you recommend ,I always had Roland gear cheers and thanks for all your info on RUclips God bless bro 👍🏻🎹
If you Custom to Roland you may not like t Yamaha tones the sound quality is so poor than what Roland gives for the same price. Most Patches have effect what peace me off mot of the time i play with Yamaha`s i give myself the job to take the off, only after that i hear the tones i really like. Also the Yamaha Pre-amp is not powerful, gives noise after few times when connecting to the system. if you want something for few days buy them. but if you want something for a carrier Roland is the Brand to go with For you can customize them 100%. I own a Fantom G6 since 2008 it still run perfectly, My Xp 60 also. But all the Yamaha PSR i own breakdown.
I love the board but hate the wall wort! Why not a regular AC cable with ground to plug in like the normal pro keyboards? I guess the answer is they wanted keep down the weight.
@GospelMusicians jamal you should get i just got the mox8 its so light compared to the motif xf/xs 8 but it has all the sounds i love it oh yeah they got some kind of promotion at guitar center they emailed me a coupon that took off 200 bucks and i got the gig bagg for free that cost around 150 so it was a come up
I just bought the MOX6 as my first keyboard/synthesizer workstation as I plan to move towards composing and producing music. I am really loving the sounds and freedom, but coming from classical/pop piano background with zero experience towards keyboarding/cubase software, I am totally overwhelmed by the amount of features! Definitely industrial professional standard keyboard! Maybe a little too much for me as a first keyboard.. Owners manual isn't helping much. Are there any help guides online?
being that the mo x 6 doesnt have too many pianos can i somehow download a expansion of the pianos like k sound pianos on the mo x 6 and if so pleasssseee tell me how love your reviews man and the playing been following you for a while now
Nice review. Always wanted the original motif. Heard they are great controllers. I had that axiom 61 pro up there but had an "oops" so I was lookin' into maybe a motif as a controller. Oh and I know it's not the reviewers studio but the monitors should be pointed at your ears, and you def need some sort of acoustic treatment in that room...
this keyboard has only 64 polyphony so my question is did u recognized any change in quality of sound as the motif xs, xf have 128 note polyphony. thanks i need to know about because i am looking to buy one too
Definely I'm going to purchase this little babe. Even if is my 1st keyboard though, 'cause I'm considering to produce some music and record it in GarageBand and Logic Pro all connected with the Apogee Duet 2 of course. Btw I've always wanted to have a keyboard like this cause even if I'm more in filmaking - photography thing, I also love music. Thanks for this awesome demonstration! :)
With the MOX8 being almost 13 years old, is it still worth buying? I have one at the house that I just fixed for my friend not too long ago by replacing the power supply. I’m seriously considering this keyboard as an option to buy. Would I be better off getting the MODX8 vs the MOX8?
I have one and is an amazing keyboard. The electric piano section is amazing. Overall is amazing. Its a motif xs inside a cheaper case but the complete sound power is there
Forgot to mention, take a look at Roger Smith's clinic on Yamaha MOX video. He is the keyboardist of Tower of Power....so...a real legend playing this thing.
It is so nice to hear someone like this guy who can actually play well demonstrate a keyboard.
Thank you. I was going to buy the Roland Fantom G6, but for the price, I can't beat this Yamaha. This will be my first workstation. Wish me luck.
Blessings,
Tim

Someone buys a keyboard based on your review.. then they get home and it doesn't sound good because it's not you playing. lol
do you think that movin up from a cheap keyboard to something such as the mox6/mox8 can make you better?
I'm not even gonna lie dude.. I'm only watching this to hear you play lol. Respect.
The MOX has the same sounds as the XS, not the XF. With that said the XF has all of the sounds the XS has. I don't know the name of that piano sound, but it is in your XF, but it will sound wayyy wayy different. The filters on the XF and XS make the same sounds, sound completely different.

Best review for gospel users, I'm going for the mox8. Thanks J from London
Thanks man a really helpful demo and review. I too have bought the MOX6 and am loving it. Take Care from London UK
I love it when you these kinds of reviews.
It sounds better than the ES because the sound engine in the MOX6/8 keyboards is the same as the Motif XS, so you're basically getting the XS sounds for a MO6/8 price, since most places are still selling both and only a price difference of $100-200.

The best sound box at this moment.
for what? piano only?
The strings sounded great!
Just got my MOX6. It has plastic, but it surrounds a metal unit. Look under your keys if have one and let me know if I'm cra-sey.
@mirkuskus The EP's are new in the MOX and Motif XS. You can't get them in your ES. The best you can do is purchase our Neo-Soul Rhodes for the Motif, but all of the tines and DX sounds are just for the XS and MOX.
I totally agree with you on the yamaha sound,it's so warm and full.....I am currently looking at the Korg Krome though.
You were right about the Trillion bass station and their keyboard and pianos sound really good also. Thanks for the advice and review of the synth and the trillion.

@ 13:27 those were the R&B Soft Rhodes huh? I love those.
Nice video as always bro
I appreciate your honesty dude, good review

Great review, Jamal! Nice chords!
how much does the mox6 cost???
@GospelMusicians This is a great video on the Yamaha MOX 6! Have you played the Roland RD700GX?
Hi man, nice review !
I myself am for years a Roland and Korg user (nowadays Fantom X and Triton to be more concrete) . I really liked also how you talked about Roland and Korg users comparing to Yamaha. Haha, I am one of them and guess what: a while ago I also took time and tried the MOX6 in the store and soon it is gonna be my next keys !!! A very good addition (soundwise ) to my setup and a great workstation / good compatible with DAW !!!
hey jamal great video
i got a question
did you ever played on a roland fantom g
because the sound on this yamaha sounds better then the fantom
i love these ep`s
MOX: Tone Generator AWM2, with Expanded Articulation

MOTIF FX: Tone Generator AWM2, with Expanded Articulation

so how many layers can u do on this keyboard ?
I just received delivery of a MOX-88, $1,500.00 and was immediately disappointed that it has NO ACCOMPANYMENT mode. I HATE PLAYING ALONE, AND WANT BACKUP WHEN CREATING. You can create your own accompaniment or your own arpeggio.
The fantom G7 doesn’t have an accompaniment as well. If you are looking for an arranger, get a PSR 👍🏼
Did you have to make adjustments like adding a lot on the EQ? Mine sounds electronic than acoustic especially the full concert grand.
Awesome Review Jamal.
... The infamous Axiom Pro on top tier.
hey man... video was good! i just have one question... why does everyone have just a plain midi controller and workstations which have midi ins and outs? wouldnt it be cheaper to just have the workstation?

Amazing review, You are so real Jamal...
I like both the MOX6 and Motif XF, However the Yamaha CVP-509, CVP609 and CLP series sound better and more realistic. hey Jamal when you layer multiple sounds do you get polyphony drop outs?
Great review by sombody who can play! Thanks man.
Jamal I just purchased the MOX8! I really love it. Where is the settings for the Rhodes? I don't see a setting that is labeled "Rhodes".

I'm with Dphenom Dude is a beast.
VERY Good and in DEPTH review. Much appreciated!
Give God your best man His name deserves it.
Which will you recommend?
does this keyboard perform like this straight out the box?or did it need a hand from some software(ableton).did you tweak, honestly?
Hi Jamal. What do you think about the new mx keyboard from yamaha? :)
Did you play the Korg M-50? What do you think about?
you don't know Ableton.. so what is your preferred software?
Will def agree that Yamaha keys are warmer than Korg. I like them both but I would prefer the Yamaha all day.
Hey what sound set up are you using to play? Your sounds richer than my speakers, amp?
Sound set is from the XS actually.
@mirkuskus I will have to go back and check!
No sir...an amp or speakers are definitely needed
hey nice video im just wondering though im thinking about either buying the yamaha mox8 or yamaha motif xs8 or korgm50
which one do u recommend for the best beat making and stuff like that
Funny how you mentioned Yamaha keyboards being "warmer" and "fatter" sounding? Now I love Yamaha gear, heck I have run a Yamaha web site for the past ten years but, I find Roland and to some extent Korg to have much warmer pianos and thicker analogue sounding synth pads. I exhanged my MOX for a Roland Juno Gi and am very glad I did. To my ears it sounds a lot richer. Just goes to show how we all hear things differently :)
what do you consider to be the best digital piano keyboard for computer software, like garageband, for a beginner.
Hi Jamal I was going to buy a motif 6 or I go for the mox6 what's do you recommend ,I always had Roland gear cheers and thanks for all your info on RUclips God bless bro 👍🏻🎹
+gino ciancio I had a motif 6 got rid of it and bought a mox6. Hands down the mox6...lighter and better sound quality.
+keyoflife24 thank I'll go and try one 👍🎹
To me, I cant stand the MOXF 6 I think Yamaha went for their cheaper PSR keybed and the key width are a little bit shorter.
Are there any help guides online?
being that the mo x 6 doesnt have too many pianos can i somehow download a expansion of the pianos like k sound pianos on the mo x 6 and if so pleasssseee tell me how love your reviews man and the playing been following you for a while now
Hey Jamal...what kind of studio monitors are those?
Can your Neo Soul Keys be installed directly to the keyboard?
Ellis Abram get Jamal's flash
what's up Jamal? How would this be as an upper keyboard? For add. organ/synths/leads and FM-piano's in comparison with the EX-5
Why are you playing with an octave down?
Nice review. Always wanted the original motif. Heard they are great controllers. I had that axiom 61 pro up there but had an "oops" so I was lookin' into maybe a motif as a controller. Oh and I know it's not the reviewers studio but the monitors should be pointed at your ears, and you def need some sort of acoustic treatment in that room...
Jamal: I heard u mention you use Trillian. What are some of your favorite patches from it? (If you don't mind sharing)
is there a difference in the feel of the keys on the mo6 and the mox6?
What’s the difference between mox and moxf?
Nice test. Maybe I will buy one on ebay. Don´t you think you need some absorbant on the walls?
this keyboard has only 64 polyphony so my question is did u recognized any change in quality of sound as the motif xs, xf have 128 note polyphony. thanks i need to know about because i am looking to buy one too
are these really the same sound from the motif xs cause if so im buying it
If you get a chance couldyou post a video on how to load sounds on it
Definely I'm going to purchase this little babe. :)
What are you using for amplifying the MOX6?
