I was really irritated that they decided to waste 1/10 of the season doing a stupid musical.
But then I watched it, and it was flippin' amazing. I was bowled over.
It's definitely Star Trek. We've seen all sorts of space anomalies which have all sorts of unlikely effects, and require far fetched ways to get out of the problem. This is that, but the most amazing one yet. Inventive, creative, original, well put together and beautifully executed.
I loved the character development. It's a great way to get inside all these characters and understand their motivations better.

Yawn. Star Trek has used practically every form of dramatic there is -- drama, action, costume drama, humor, tragedy, soliloquy, farce, slapstick, melodrama (oh, my the melodrama!) (and that's just looking at ToS) -- but somehow musical theater is a step too far. Doing a musical was completely within what Star Trek is -- and always has been -- about. Yes you are the only one angry. There were episodes of TOS that did not stick to norms. Seems like your over looking that.

Absolutely the only one angry. And I've watched every single Star Trek series out there.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is my favourite Star Trek series to date.

It was unwatchable. When the singing started I cringed so badly it hurt, had to bail.
