Hardly one of the worst signings of all time. Injuries have hampered him it's true, but when he has been in the lineup, Ellsbury has been a good, solid player for New York.
Just remember the yankees once signed Vernon Wells.....
Ellsbury had a good 1st year, bad 2nd year which was hampered by injuries, 3rd year was average, 4th year was ok. If he was playing on the same contract as brett gardner, it would be c9nsidered a good signing

Mr. 4K Blu-ray first off the Yankees signed him when he was 30. And it was a seven year deal. That’s bad enough deal already, but when u got players that are only 26, a ten year contract isn’t bad cuz they would only end up being 36. 36 is old but they can still hit.
This is why teams don’t want to give players long term deals!

The Ellsbury signing is the worst free agent signing in Yankees history. I said it the minute they signed him. They will regret it once he hits the DL. And that deal with the Giants for Johnny Cueto has to happen. Cueto can sit out a year and come back next year and fill in the rotation, replacing CC next year. A deal like that makes sense because when Cueto is right, he’s a great pitcher.
You guys have forgotten that when C.C retires, Jordan Montgomery or Jonathan Loaisga or Chance Adams or Domingo German are there. So getting Johnny Cueto is unnecessary imo. Trust me I want Ellsbury gone as well.

Whisperer Charlie Montgomery they say is good and played some games. Loaisiga is still unknown until he stops using too many pitches. Cueto fell off. He was good before but now he isn’t great. German sucks. Adams should be good.
The Berg tbh I think German is better as a long reliever. Not as a starter.

I have had plantar fasciitis and it’s so hard to play, for fun! This guy needs to play at the highest MLB outfield and run make up ground so he can’t do it is what’s up and Jacoby Elsbery knows it. He will need to retire I think

The Jacoby signing was a waste of money. Brian Cashman gave Gardner a deal the same year ( bad move) History repeated itself when Cashman signed a second right fielder named Stanton ( between Judge and Stanton 400 strikeouts ) Moving forward he signs Gardner for 7 million, CC for 8 million, and D.J. LeMahieu second basemen for 12 million (waste) of money, add those contracts up and its 27 million dollars that could've been used for a pitcher or Manny / Harper .
I agree. Having Ellsbury and Gardner (two similar style players) was not a good decision. His signing was a terrible waste of money. And I don’t understand why give DJ LeMahieu 12 Million to be an “utility infielder” Big waste of money unless he plays everyday. Also why sign Tulowitzki (another injury prone player)? Just have Torres play SS until Didi gets back and since they already spent the money on LeMahieu then have him play 2B. He’s a good defender and contact hitter. I love Gardner but I hope resigning him wasn’t a mistake. The same with CC. He’s got a lot of heart and this is also his last year but we could have done a little better I think. I would rather have Machado or Harper. Machado is an excellent defender and he can solidify 3B for the Yanks and well as take over SS if something happens to Didi. But then again that’s another right hand hitter to add to an already right handed heavy line up. That’s why I almost rather have Harper. Good left handed presence in the middle of the line up. Maybe trading for Stanton wasn’t such a good idea. The Yanks took on a ton of salary to get another Judge type player (and another right hand hitter that also plays RF) I just hope it all works out and the off-season signings pan out. And that the Judge/Stanton duo can put up 40+ HRs and 100+ RBIs without striking out 200+ times each.

He could have done good, but instead of playing his game he wanted to send the ball flying up instead of in play on the ground AND STEAL BASES. He was reluctant to steal bases, which was what made him such a threat.
the few times I did see him steal bases every time my response was why doesn't he do this more often he does it so well.
But he decided to play a different type of game and it costed him everything.

It's a shame that this is what Ellsbury has become. He was a great player with Boston and at the time the contract was worth it. Unfortunately he keeps getting hurt. He just needs to get traded elsewhere

I agree, this was the worst free agent signing ever, tops that useless Ed Whitson, Pavano. This guy should be used as the water boy, the clean up guy, the yard worker, after all, he's getting paid millions. Every time I hear, there is something wrong with him, just send him home please, can't stand watching him around these young guys.

Hey don’t beat up on Jacoby ! When he’s heathy he’s a great player! Beat up on the Yankees for signing a guy who is absolutely injury prone! We knew he’d be hurt it was just a matter of when and for how long! The Yankees f**ked up not Jacoby , I mean anyone of us would have took the money they offered him . The bottom line is the Yankees signed a accident prone player period.
