Couple things I’m confused by. It looked like a number of his strikes made pretty strong contact. Were these not touch sparring matches? The scorpion kick thing looks like it makes contact, but I can’t imagine the mechanics of it actually causing much damage if done at full force. If that’s true, kind of surprised an ineffective kick would still score.
Yes, WKF karate follows point sparring rules. However, your punches have to show at least some level of power to be recognized, however if you injure your opponent ( verified by the doc on duty ) you will receive a warning, and if the opponent who is injured is unable to fight, the results come down to decision ( based on the score + inclusive of the warning received due to injury ). The scorpion kick is actually a move not practical in actual fighting as it requires close contact to be pulled off ( and kicks are supposedly used due to their range and power ). Howevr, this is a tournament under a set of rules and not a street fight hence it is allowed. Ive never seen it used before but if i ever get into a clinch in a street fight, i'll tell you if it works. The 6 things judges look at when determining on points is : 1. Timing 2. Distance 3. Zanshin 4. Application 5. Form 6. Sporting attitude I hope this answers your questions.
Agree,Scorpion kick does not appear to cause scoring damage. Looks like he uses that technique during a close tie up after there is a stop to the action. He is quick, however, I prefer Kyokushinkai rules
i like more the All Japan Karate Kumite or All Japan JKA kumite. there are no gloves simulating real fight. w/o gloves one will be cautious to attack. there is that fear of being hit with a bare knuckle. The kicks are simple and hard; the punches are also simple and hard. the only thing is the fight will be boring because of cautiousness pf the players.
