Helston Railway, a brilliant little railway & the most southerly - A Must Visit Railway - Steam day

For the penultimate time this year, a short trip to the Helston Railway, the most southerly railway in the United Kingdom. The line is just over 1 mile long, between Prospidnick Halt, and Truthall Halt, with 1 intermediate stop at Trevarno (request stop). The line is relaid along the old GWR branch line from Helston to Gwinear Road, and you can watch ‘Then & Now - West Cornwall’, to see the rest of the line in its heyday compared to the present day. The hope is to extend the line to Helston, to a new station on the outskirts. I visited the line back in early May, when they were running a diesel, and my plan was to come back for the heritage transport weekend (9th to 10th September), when they were running steam. However, it overlapped with the Royal Duchy railtour and the Bodmin China Clay Gala, so I brought my trip forward by a month and a half. This is a MUST-VISIT railway, it is extraordinary to see all the work taking place to restore the lint to its former glory. There is a selection of rolling stock, and running on the day was a Peckett 2000 class steam locomotive. A big thanks to the driver for allowing me to come on the footplate for a return trip. Delightful light railway feel to it, enhanced if anything by the brand new but rather rustic engine shed. There does seem to be rather a Colonel Stephens feel to it

Mainly heard of Helston related to the famous Helston Flora.
Probably travelling on this train is where Katie Moss started to think about writing The Flora Dance inspired by her visit to the event all those years ago

One day when i'm not broke and visit the U.K i want to go to 2 specific railways, this is one of them. It just seems like a nice quaint time where it's all just fun and relaxing with no need for overcomercialization or incredibly epic grandure visits or galas, just a nice little branch line in Britian with its own interesting history, especially as it seemed to start out really early in the 21st century.
