Another great video Emma...Loved watching you clean the coffee macine, toaster and rest of your kitchen, very satisfying 😊😊....I have followed Diane in Denmark for years, she is great and does stress you do what suits your circumstances..She has a daily to do list which is fantastic which just keeps things at bay..Then other days specific things..She is easy to watch and very bubbly personality...I agree with you though on her wardrobe! Felt it was a bit excessive!! She does stress though that most of her clothes are from swap parties which she has done videos on...I think you would enjoy..Her big issue is no spend also!

I follow a version of the FlyLady system but based more on how my life works - it is absolutely useful to clean and declutter in zones but I don’t worry about shoes on, the home journal etc. if you are going to get into it I’d recommend looking at Diane in Denmark’s videos. She uses the zones but emphasises fitting it into your life and home - and she’s a Scot living in Denmark and is very pragmatic and talks about useful routines etc. And yes she has a considerable wardrobe but that’s the point - you have to have the things you like and use - not a specific number. And all her clothes fit in her wardrobe and she can find what she is looking for which is key to less stress.
Toasters are so messy - next time (when you are in zone 2!) take the toaster outside to pull out the crumb tray and then turn it upside down and bang the sides til all the bits come out.

Just from the start of this video i could see that the kitchen is tidier at the start than it has been in other videos. As for the fly lady, i get what you mean about the shoes, with the principle of being put together a good one, but shoes in house a no. I’ve done the fly lady baby steps but didn’t find the zone cleaning very successful, but I’d definitely recommend trying it. As for whether you should try it considering you have a lot of stuff to declutter, you literally said one of her mantras ‘jump in where you are’. Day one may be wash the pots, put them away and shine the sink in the evening, doesn’t mean it’s the only thing you can do, but it’s a habit building routine really. I must say i agree with what you’re saying about not being able to see even England alone in a few days, i live in the midlands and can definitely see many major differences between us. Such as guy fawkes, i know who he is and the gunpowder plot, but I’ve never made a guy and set fire to him, it’s not a thing up here. Although my tradition is to see the fireworks and make bonfire toffee

The fly lady is a great system. The biggest problem is that it’s very intensive. Build a few small habits first. Do your dishes after every meal. That’s most of the problem. Starting on everything will be very overwhelming.

I know what you mean about shoes in the house so you can just do the dressing part and have your shoes by the door ready to go. That way you are ready to leave the house if you need to. Fly lady is great. I first find her 26 years ago. Can you believe it!

Hello Emma, I agree with you,hot water and fairy liquid is a top class cleaner and costs a fraction of these ‘must have spray cleaners’
I do our toaster out regular after seeing my mother in laws catch fire! So many breadcrumbs building up, getting hotter and hotter. Makes me wonder if the black bits I tip out are bits of bread that have literally burnt in the toaster🫣
I did read through the Fly Lady’s plan but don’t think it’s for me, like you I get showered and dressed but definitely not shoes on until I leave the house.

Live in Florida, and I have tile floors, which are very hard on the feet. Plus, I have a knee replacement and wearing shoes is recommended. Slippers don't work with tile floors. I have shoes that are strictly inside the house. They are slip-on, with good support so I can change shoes quickly when I need to go outside.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who carries socks in my purse with my sandals😂 I did try fly lady, I think it would work better after the house is all clean, I found it a bit too regimented for life with kids, work, and volunteer positions. I often do 4 hours work on a wednesday because I don't have time to even wash up from dinner on Tuesdays... if you have 2hours everyday it could be good, but I usually do a lot on wed and sat and have only 30 minutes most other days. I prioritize laundry school, and cooking from scratch even if that means the dinner dishes are being washed after school drop off the next day, then on big clean days doing deeper cleaning and catching up on larger scale projects like decluttering and emptying cupboards. Every system will not work for everyone, and this one is not for me at this stage of life.

@@gettingtidy2495 our version of NHS is run by each province, so doctor's are registered in each province. If we maintain our residence in Vancouver at least 6 months then we have better access to specialists that my kids need. However I don't care for the fast pace of life and prefer my home up north here things are slow and the community is close knit, so we typically spend 5 months of the year up there. However if we maintain residence in Yukon we have to apply for an out of province doctor everytime an issue comes up as permissions are given "per issue" not "per patient" if that makes sense? So if you needed your tonsils out you may get an ENT, but if another ENT issue arises you would need to start the process again rather than just calling the doctor you are already assigned to.

No outdoor shoes past the porch in our house. The colour of the dirty water when I clean my porch floor compared to hallway floor a few steps away where no outdoor shoes are allowed is all I’ll ever need to convince me that it’s the right thing to do. Especially as we have carpets & will often walk around either barefoot or just in socks & slippers.
I also do not allow slippers to be stored on the shoe rack with outdoor shoes, as in my eyes storing them in the same area defeats the purpose of taking your shoes off.
Different systems work for different people. You might find you eventually find one that suits you or you might make your own after drawing inspiration from multiple systems. It’s all about finding something that works for you & your family.

I agree, getting dressed to shoes is rather funny, I think it’s best to take the fly lady with a large pinch of salt!
I do love Diane in Denmark (and I think watching her videos led me to your channel) but agree at times she is not always relatable. She seems to have a lot of time and resources. There is no way I can fit in what she suggests doing each day after a 12+ hour day at work 😂.
The fly lady zones can be helpful- just to remind you to concentrate on one room per week to avoid decisions fatigue or feeling overwhelmed.
