Feel lied to. The "rust" was painted on by an artist, and this guy comes along and undoes everything for his "restoration". And then the result looks less real and worse than the original. And I've never seen such a boring trailer as that one. One color for the whole thing? I've never seen one entirely metallic grey. Really uninspired and low effort once you got to the trailer.
You know For a Giant he's very careful while dismantling and renovating an old truck like that, that's gotta take a lot of practice to be so gentle given his massive strength already
I got the feeling that he makes them dirty himself. Most of the toys he "restores" look way too new to have been "abandoned", so he probably just bought it new, buried it in his backyard for a week or 2 and made it clean again
It's called weathering & you can make the newest things look really old & beatup if you're good enough .Took me years of practice .Some models just look far better weathered & with that really worn look especially earth moving & mining models.
Yes they were pricey in the day. I had 3 of them from Franklin Mint, 379Pete with Refer, 613Mack with Tanker, and this one we just watched. I do believe they were around $200-250.

I am pretty sure the artist that originally weathered and aged that truck to look real and used would be pissed off that you undid all of his work to make it look like a toy. Don't get me wrong. You did a good job, but you destroyed a masterpiece to do it.

Horrifying. The truck was much cooler *before* the awesome real-world character was entirely obliterated. It would have been much better to 3D-scan and replicate than ruin such a splendid work of art.

I'll be honest the old version tricked me I had to look at the details again because it looked so real. I wasn't sure if it was a camera trick that showed you playing with a real truck, until I got into it few more seconds and realized that this was just a damn good model. I don't think you should've restored it, because after restoring it the truck looks like a clean toy but doesn't have the realistic look to it that it formerly had. Either way amazing skills, I admire any one that can paint and has the patience to do all of this. I know I would easily be able to take it a part but then putting it back together I'd fail LOL.
This is one of the strangest things I've ever seen: First build it distressed, then take it apart to repaint and build again. Is there a market for this on RUclips?

tbh it is not that damaged, i as begginer modeler/restorer did saved something similiar (just it was a car). and tbh he already did restored much worse shaped and beaten models.
Nice job on the restoration. I drove a T-600 with a 3406 CAT and a 13 speed back in the 80s from NY to CA several times. Nice riding with a good view out front. And comfortable to sleep in too.
One area that they missed was the stinger. They have the two air lines going to the trailer but not the stinger, which is what transfers the power and signal for the trailer lights.
I find it very soothing to watch these videos. having said that, I always find it interesting how easily the 'puzzle' is taken apart and reassembled, like it's been done once or twice before. I'm probably wrong, but still. Just a thought. Anyway, always like a new video. Keep it up!

I've got this truck, well I've got 4 including a fire engine all with this detail, mine were bought from Fraklin Mint many years ago, im sure they retailed at just over £200 then, I still have them to this day, I've a Peterbilt, a mack and a freightliner.
I've never saw anything like this before. And all put together with screws. You turned that truck and trailer into a new one. Very nice work. Thanks for sharing.👍
My preference, it looked cooler unrestored, it looked more realistic. Maybe just neutralizing the rust would have done the trick but overall, nice restoration as a new truck
I have seen a lot of models, but I have NEVER seen that amount of detail. Hands down the best model ever. Coming from someone who had an Anteater when they first came out, and a trucker for 45 years. Man, what would something like that cost? Had to be a fortune.
I drove a Peterbuilt 379 with a 750hp Cat. Those jakes screamed when haulin a heavy load! Loved them when the guy next to you was so focused I let off the throttle.. he'd jump in his seat! And I giggled like a school boy!

He just wiped away the souls of every child and adult who enjoyed it over the year's. Old things if look at them a certain way tell wonderful stories. BTW I made pretty much the same comment a month ago. Sometimes things don't need "fixing".
2 "oops" in painting: 1) The engine should a been Cat yellow; not Detroit Gray. 2) Even tho they are behind the aero skirts and not really visible, the 150 gallon each fuel tanks are still unpainted aluminum. I'm impressed you went with red. Same color as the T2000 expedited box truck I drove for a couple months, while "my" Freightliner FL120 was getting some repairs.
More like he painted it as a paccar motor. Detroit is greenish. But definitely agree with cat. I have a cat 3406e in my T600 and yes the tanks are not painted.
You should have done a throw back to BJ McKay paint on the tractor and trailer, would have been Uber cool. Us old guys would have got it, but the new kids wouldn’t have a clue. Snowman’s Truck and trailer would have been pretty awesome too. Looks great the way you have it too, awesome job brother.

All you really had to do for an authentic restoration was put 'KENWORTH/KENMEX' logos on the hood. Then it would've actually resembled half the trucks you see coming across the border into Laredo.😁
Man I would have given anything for one of those when I was a kid. Not sure how long the mirrors and antennas would have lasted though lol. I’d have been tempted to have left the trailer at least as is. Looked totally old school and used which is good i a way too. Nice work.

This is as expertly executed as any I have seen! You, sir, ought to be working in the motion picture industry on a production studio. I would have done this with two kits: before and after. The timeworn one I would have set in a diorama depicting a dilapidated setting, e.g., an abandoned dockyard, warehouse, or factory.

About all scale cars and trucks look brandnew, so this one had a cool weathered look to it like mad max, so he should have left this one
as it was.

I'm impressed you went with red. Same color as the T2000 expedited box truck I drove for a couple months, while "my" Freightliner FL120 was getting some repairs.
More like he painted it as a paccar motor. Detroit is greenish. But definitely agree with cat. I have a cat 3406e in my T600 and yes the tanks are not painted.

You should have done a throw back to BJ McKay paint on the tractor and trailer, would have been Uber cool. Us old guys would have got it, but the new kids wouldn’t have a clue. Snowman’s Truck and trailer would have been pretty awesome too. Looks great the way you have it too, awesome job brother.

All you really had to do for an authentic restoration was put 'KENWORTH/KENMEX' logos on the hood. Then it would've actually resembled half the trucks you see coming across the border into Laredo.😁

Man I would have given anything for one of those when I was a kid. Not sure how long the mirrors and antennas would have lasted though lol. I’d have been tempted to have left the trailer at least as is. Looked totally old school and used which is good i a way too. Nice work.

Is it just me or does it look like the thing was artificially aged, loos like some of the aging powders and paint was applied to make it look old and well used. Or maybe not?
Absolutely. I have a friend that buys model cars and trucks, ages them and sells them at local car shows. He's really good and makes good money.

I would have done this with two kits: before and after. The timeworn one I would have set in a diorama depicting a dilapidated setting, e.g., an abandoned dockyard, warehouse, or factory.
