"You just get to see so much more of the country when you travel by rail" exactly, comrade. That's why when I went to my meetings with Xi Jinping, Donald Trump, and Vladimir Putin in Beijing, Hanoi, and Vladivostok respectively, I chose to go by train. I am the only world leader that regularly uses a train, a tradition started by my grandpa, and I'd like to keep it that way.
I just find it so fascinating that because of Hulunbuir's status as Prefecture-level city, it's one of the largest cities anywhere by area. Definitely doesn't feel like it's all a city of course, and I'm glad for that as that prairie is absolutely breathtaking. And yes, having the train run for all four seasons and being more efficient is a good thing. The pandemic has taught us that we took things for granted, and that tourism is just as important to an economy as other industries. Without trains, the places the train stops at are further isolated from the rest of the country. An example of inconvenient rail is in Chicago, some Metra services ONLY operate during rush-hour and not during the day. So if you wanted to party in Chicago and get home late, but missed the last train? Too bad!
High speed trains are the way to go! Way more reliable than planes! (and you don't have to go through so much security) My friend and I did all our traveling in China using high speed trains in 2018. Can't wait to be able to go back for more travels.
@@spy_balloon actually high speed trains are fairly more expensive than regular green-skinned slow trains in China (however, much cheaper than bullet trains in the West), so many blue collar workers and students would prefer slow trains actually
I literally went exactly on a student tour group from Hulunbuir to Genhe in 2019! Except it was on a tourbus, but I was still amazed at the snowy landscape and that even in the middle of nowhere, I still had 4G internet access as if I was in a city.
I was bloody amazed to receive a phone call right in the middle of a tunnel on the Shanghai metro, and this was back in 2010! Less microwave rAdiAtiOn misinfo there, I guess.
Finally China makes luxury train yeah! Can't wait to get back to China and taken this trip. I think it will be prettier in winter. The scenery will be like winter wonderland:=))
Love luxury train trips. Hope China would build more lines for this kind of travelling. Longer carriages & grander, unique kind of designs with attention to details like the Japanese's many private trains.
A correction, the 25G carriages used to be red, 25 T carriages used to be white and 25K carriages used to be blue. They started to be painted green from around 2015. The real green slow trains are 22 and 25B carriages.
Stu, you are the lucky man! Personally, I think this is the most joyful and relaxing thing in our life, by taking the luxury orient express with the wonderful landscape all along the way 😍🤩😎
That looks so awesome never on a train for long distance before must try it someday I go to hongkong regularly but haven't been to other parts of china only Shenzhen are you Irish by any chance im Chinese living in Ireland for 46 yrs
Could you show more of the beautiful landscape with your voiceover? I mean longer scenes with only the landscape and you just explain and tell us some random facts about what we are seeing.
What a pretty long sleeve shirt you are wearing too - in maroon with all the auspicious symbols of white heron, pine and gold lattice print. Where could one order it?
I love train travels! Watching this video really reassures my worries on the bathroom facilities, they look nice! But this 30,000RMB trip lasts for how many days?
Most people wouldn't need a private room for 8 hours of train ride, unless money is never an issue for them. I think a seat and a nice meal would be quite good to pass the 8-hour ride.
Can you recommend the best site to buy tickets for this train journey? Is there a rail travel company that specialises in tourists that want to see China by rail?
@@TravelinChina I will download WeChat. You have inspired me to book a three month (summer semester) to learn mandarin in China. I’ll be over in June, July, August 2024.
Oof, that British rail roast...it's pretty sad how the UK is the birthplace of the railway, and yet trains there are treated by the British government as if they're nothing. Look how long High Speed 2's been taking! And other cities in the UK could've had REGIONAL EUROSTAR at one point (yes, that was a plan) that would've connected cities like Edinburgh and Glasgow all the way to Paris and Brussels. Why didn't it happen? Because of customs concerns and the rise of low-cost airlines. Trains are even treated poorly in the US. Majority of the tracks are owned by freight companies rather than the government through Amtrak. This is why China's trains are so efficient, the tracks are government-owned. The Northeast Corridor on the other hand IS owned by Amtrak and that's why the trains on that line are electric and the Acela high-speed train uses that route between Boston and Washington, DC. Trains connected the East Coast to the West Coast before highways did, and towns popped up because of trains like here on Long Island, and the LIRR remains the busiest commuter rail in North America.
Yet another to my bucket list. You did not say how much the fare is & a little vague compared with the more established lines like the Orient Express - an apprx percentage (more or less) would have helped to quantify costs. Nice jacket, btw. Knives & forks instead of chopsticks?
Did I miss the price part please? I feel that you haven’t explained how much it costs exactly😁I think it’s a wonderful idea to bring my kids to travel with the sleeper train. It feels like a cruise. But when you said 20,000-30,000 RMB, it’s too costly! 😅
