@@telugutravelandcultureactually it was a buddhist chaitya, a resting place for buddhist monks. Later vishnukundins converted this into a vishnu cave temple. Historians claim that padmanabha swamy statue was once a buddha statue. You can see the left hand raising. Isn't it? So it was a buddhist cave originally but later became vishnu cave.
