I lived close to Peter's house in Putney when I was a schoolboy. I often heard sounds from his garden house as I crossed the iron bridge to/from Putney Bridge Station. I was always amazed at those unworldly sounds, wondering what on earth was going on in there. Didn't Peter also create a concert for office machines at QEH? Thanks for posting this.
For anyone interested their is what looks like either a repress or deadstock find of the 2014 2CD hardback book of the music and background of Peter Zinovieff and the EMS currently on sale at the usual auction site and its very reasonably priced considering the quality of the release. Kudos for keeping this short documentary up and contributing to the revisionary history of UK electronic music where pioneers like Zinovieff, Daphne Oram and Delia are finally getting the recognition they deserve.
RIP Dr. Zinovieff - 23rd June 2021. All hail Robin Wood who used to demo the AKS and VCS3 in the back room at Putney Bridge Road and who now repairs the same types.
I feel very inspired by the work and innovations of Peter Zinovieff. For me, he is a hero of sound synthesis, and deserves recognition for his research and vision. It's great to have footage of him.
Many thanks and appreciation, The article is edited from two documentaries, the first, "What The Future Sounded Like" is an Australian short film, funded partly by the AFF, and concerns the electronic music movement that began after World War 2, before the advent of home computers. A press kit is available from their website for more information. The second source is the 1979 BBC documentary "The New Sound of Music', featuring a demonstration on an EMS Synthi 100. Many thanks to all.
I realize that Peter was fortunate enough to have had ‘spousal subsidization’ support, but that, in no way, lessens the absolutely gargantuan, and seminal (and sacrificial) contributions this man made in the service of advancing the entire realm of synthesizers dba musical instruments. I do hope this gentle synth dynamo is RIP.
Many thanks for your appreciation. I believe that Peter was involved in an experimental band with Delia and Brian Hodgson called Unit Delta Plus. Also, watch the entire documentary "What the Future Sounded Like" on the RUclips. There are many great pioneers that also worked with Peter Zinovieff. Jeffrey S.
What a sad story. It just goes to show that the universe makes no sense when a Genius & all his Ideas are scorned & refused the credit that they so rightfully deserve. This man belongs in the same catagory as other Legends such as Delia Derbyshire, Dr Moog & Walter Carlos. Maybe even above them. My most admirable & humble respect to Peter Zinovieff.
There are many instances like this in the past where Britain was leading the world in new, pioneering stuff, but it all going pear-shaped due to lack of support, investment or bad management, followed by other countries taking it over and making it successful. The home computer era would be another example.

@3.37, second row, far left, note the presence of Daphne Oram, inventor of 'Oramics' and key player in the early days of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop.

Rest in peace master .

Thank you for posting this very important video!
The device at 1.45 reminds me of the interface for the Figure app on iOS.
Delia Derbyshire @ 8:45! She turned me onto electronic music!
R.I.P.
What a man!
important footage
Genius!
❤
I'm afraid that after the water damage, most of the equipment was scrapped, apart from a few Ampex recorders.
Nightmare.
Pretty sure that is Daphne Oram in the audience (left of the screen) at 2:53. Anyone agree/disagree?
I'm sure the audience felt abandoned once the people left the stage!
They could have given the robot a face!
What does it say @3:43? The dreariest kind of neo vaben?
It looks hot down in that garden basement😓
not in London

The synthi is not pathetic
