In a land far away, there lived a forgetful elephant named Horace. Horace was a gentle giant with a trunk that could reach the tallest trees, but his memory was worse than a sieve. He would often forget where he put his hat, or where he parked his elephant car, or even his own name!
One day, Horace decided to go on a picnic. He packed a basket full of bananas and peanut butter sandwiches, and set off towards his favorite spot by the river. On the way, he saw a beautiful flower and stopped to smell it.
"Such a lovely scent!" he thought. But when he turned back to the path, his basket was gone! Horace searched high and low, but he couldn't find his basket. He was so hungry that his stomach started to rumble.
"Oh dear, I wish I had remembered to pack an extra banana," he sighed. Just then, a little monkey swung down from a tree. "What's wrong, Horace?" the monkey asked. Horace explained that he had forgotten his picnic basket.
The monkey giggled. "Don't worry, Horace. I saw a big, striped cat carrying a basket that looked just like yours. He went towards the jungle." Horace thanked the monkey and set off towards the jungle.
He found the cat, who was trying to open the basket. "Excuse me," Horace said politely. "But that's my picnic basket!" The cat looked up in surprise. "Your picnic basket? But I found it all by myself!"
Horace explained that he had packed the basket himself. The cat looked at the bananas and peanut butter sandwiches with longing. "Well," he said slowly, "I did happen to eat a few of the sandwiches..."
Horace laughed. "It's alright," he said. "I'm sure you were hungry. Let's share the rest." So, Horace and the cat sat down under a shady tree and enjoyed the rest of the picnic.
Horace learned a valuable lesson that day: it's always a good idea to write a list when you go on a picnic - especially if you're an elephant with a forgetful memory! The End
