I'm not trying to be mean as I say this. I'm wanting to tell students what many lifelong Canadians have experienced recently. Maybe it will shed a light somewhere in regards to 2024 changes.
Until 2020 (pandemic), most Canadians would have proudly & quickly said Canada is a great place. For multiple generations (young & old). It still is in many ways. But like all countries, a bunch of things have made life more difficult lately.
During the COVID lockdowns, many people went wild wanting to buy a house (urban & rural). Increasing demand and rising prices. Not long after, inflation caused mortgage rates to rise. Rental costs soared too.
Simultaneously in Canada, the number of people coming by air, land and boat to claim asylum skyrocketed. For example, in 2023 alone, in just one region (Central Canada) 395 people arrived per day (on average). Ditto for other populated provinces. Also the number of international students SKYROCKETED!!! In 2023 alone, averaging 2,000 per day across Canada.
MASS immigration desires/demands have been hard on everyone, not just migrators.
The majority trying to migrate to Canada recently have been from South Asia. And it's become extremely obvious to Canadians. Even those that are very used to much diversity & many cultures. Plus all Canadians now know that international students are using schooling as a 'back door' ticket to come to Canada for permanent residency. Flocking to a education system that was not designed to be all about every international student wanting a permanent ability to be in Canada. With most also wanting to bring family over too.
All Canadians know what's truly going on now because they've witnessed the extreme PR frenzy firsthand by now. To most Canadians it has felt like a huge tidal wave that has reached all cities and small towns, with a post secondary school. A situation that never existed 5 years ago.
Hospitals have been hit with many wanting free healthcare, creating greater waiting times. Plus a VERY SEVERE HOUSING CRISIS has occurred in many western countries including in Canada. In ways never seen in people's lifetimes.
Now westerners want the money greedy agents in other countries to stop MARKETING & LYING to their own people about access to PR or citizenship … or accommodation/jobs … in places like Canada being relatively easy (to get). And for any people living in western countries to be ashamed of themselves if they're getting greedy too. Anyone doing things to make $ off of people's PR desires. At best, there is a 25% chance of gaining PR (better odds if you are masters/medicine etc.).
Not all players across the board have acted honestly over the years, i.e. contract marriages (IELTS spouse), anchor babies, fraud, false asylum claims. Canada asked India government to prevent “ghost consulting”. The new PRIVATE colleges are really being investigated now (including looking for strong oversea ties).
Canadians are meeting students who showed Canada they have enough $ to live in Canada, but it turns out they borrowed it (without being able to spend it). Canadian food banks and other charity services have been recklessly advertised on RUclips (by Indian students in India language). Many transit services have launched stricter rules, i.e. lost monthly bus passes (registered in your name) are now never replaced (unlike b4). Due to 2 or 3 students falsely using one pass. Canadian homes are being purchased or used to put multiple 'students-only' in them, as more and more Canadians become homeless.
Then this year throw in all the Palestinian vs Israeli angry protests happening regularly in cities. Plus the Sikh vs Hindu violence/extortions across Canada. Certain diasporas are stirring up tribal hatreds (in Canada) … even though it all stems from their ancestral home. How can peace be found anywhere with this in play?
Plus the Canadian government recently launched investigations in regards to foreign interference in Canadian elections. All stemming from Asia continent.
Canadians are so so so not used to all this. So many, who have embraced multi-culturalism and immigration for decades are now VERY worried and fearful (due to all of the above). And all are praying it doesn't turn into great anger (like in the USA).
Canadians want multi-culturism to succeed … and for all people (including immigrants) to be okay. Everyone I know is very happy with IRCC's recent changes (reductions & multifaceted investigations). Including multi-generational long-term Asian-Canadians where many have been the most upset (by all of this).
Now there is also a net zero approach. One international student can only enter Canada if one or more leave.
PS Canadians are aware that some WONDERFUL students are going through hell. And we know Canada is partially to blame. This hurts our hearts. But bottom-line, Canada decides what needs to be done in Canada. Do you see Canadians protesting in other countries (that is not their own) making demands for themselves? No. Do Canadians see people from other countries protesting in Canada, making demands (due to IRCC pumping it's immigration brakes because it has to)? Yes.
If 36,000,000 Canadians travelled to India, since 2020, with the primary goal of being able to stay there permanently, that would raise their population by 2.65%. International students after PR (using the back door) raised Canada's population 2.65%.
Changes are occurring in 2024, for HUGE reasons.

I know where you’re coming from, I am also not against with the all these changes, if fact it was about time to change it but the whole point of my video is telling aspiring migrants the truth about getting a job here, not everything you see and read online is true, so if I were them try it and see it for yourself. We have seen a bunch of negative videos already - blaming the govt, the students, immigrants, pandemic etc. For example, “crying inside your car, complaining that you’re on a pay check to pay-check, no savings, can’t afford to buy/rent a house etc - then blame others why your life sucks” Don’t wait for the govt to do something to change your life (you’ll be disappointed) but instead we should be accountable to our own actions, we need to do something to get out of that situation, sabi nga nila hindi mo kasalanan if pinanganak ka mahirap pero kasalanan mo if namatay ka mahirap, that’s the reality of life - our action determines our future.

Yes, may competition dito, pero masasabi ko if may right skillset ka, credentials, and attitude mkukuha mo un maayus na trabaho, hindi lang talaga sya gnun kadali kc you have to go back to school, if di ka willing gawin un baka hindi talaga para sayo si Canada, kailangan mo mag adapt sa changes, kasi true walang manyayari kung ma stuck tyos old job.

      Vancouver Island.
Surrey is probably a bit pricier since its close to Vancouver.
You can check the rates on Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist, Kijiji.
