- Sarah Churchill Duchess of Marlborough, is a Churchillian epic story of a strong willed woman, and one of the most influential women of her time. Lady Sarah gained much knowledge of government and intimacy with queen Anne, this had made her a powerful friend and a dangerous enemy. Court intrigue, a tireless political campaigner, and a devoted wife. Sarah Churchill, Duchess of Marlborough believed that she had a right to enforce her political advice, whether Anne personally liked it or not, Sarah had become the power behind the throne yet she underestimated Anne's strength of character!

What a life! Gobsmackedly interesting life! Sarah Churchill reminds me of my mother, so I do understand how Queen Anne must have felt! Imagine living with a friend who over the years became more over opinionated, ambitious and arrogant. Truly awful ending, and yet somehow managing to come up again smelling like a rose. I can understand why her family, friends, and political colleagues didn't miss her after she died! Enough said. Great narration! Well done indeed again!
Thanks Cassandra 😊
I can’t imagine how popular she was with people. She was famous for being harsh and sharp in her opinions and not caring about who she was being harshly honest to be it queen or anyone else for that matter. She was probably kinder to her dog . Not one to kiss a person’s backside to get to the front of the line, she more or less pushed her way to the front of the line
Sarah sounds ambitious, arrogant, strategic and brave. I like her
Feisty is a good word for Sarah. Glad you enjoyed it 😊
Sarah would have been a heck of a CEO the way she played. Then again, she was in a time where a woman had certain things that she could be so Sarah had to know how to boldly play the game with little regret and that’s why she’s so interesting
She was certainly feisty and very strong willed. Her opinions mattered to Anne before the eventual breakdown in friendship. Thank you 😊
Thank you so much for posting.
This was exactly what I was looking for and so much more.
You have a gift for telling history's stories and not just stating fact's.
You're very welcome! 😊
Fantastic film. What a strong and determined woman! Thank you for this. I'd never have known about Sarah.
Thank you Val, she was certainly strong, determined and very influential. Have a lovely weekend.
I first read quite a lot about Sarah Churchill while investigating the history of this amazing family and found myself admiring The Duchess of Marlborough... however, your presentation of this strong matriarch one would have her a shallow, & superficial narcissist. I would encourage others to consider an exploration into her life as a loyal wife, a staunch friend, lastly a woman of considerable substance in an age when such attributes were encouraged to contribute to the downfall of any woman displaying as much ... There are some of the same similarities to be found in Clementine Churchill wife of Sir Winston Queen Elizabeth 11 first Prime Minister.
Excellent totally excellent quality job, as usual!
Thanks again!😊
Another great show. Enjoy your weekend.
Thanks Mary Ann, have a great weekend too 😀
This is such an interesting and informative video. I’m quite interested In my family genealogy and found out that I am directly descended from Sarah and John. I can certainly see myself in Sarah and she is so inspirational to me. Thank you for this video
Appreciate you watching Alicia 😊
Hey me too!! That's what brought me first to this channels other video on her, now this one! Still tracing my tree to make the connection back to sarah but my ancestors who first emigrated to america were known as her descendants just trying to piece together exactly how
Great video!
Thank you, have a lovely weekend 😊
@@HistoryRoadshow Many Thanks! And you enjoy your weekend as well!
I'm having a day off! Will probably still be thinking about who's next!
I think the music and your voice is very soothing. I don’t see anything wrong. I even have ADD and I could follow just fine.
Thanks Veronica, have a lovely week 😊
@@HistoryRoadshow you do the same, thank you 🙏
I was just reading Sarah's wiki page. Did you write it?
New subscriber! Your voice is very soothing.
Love your videos but the background music is too loud. I can barely hear the narration.
🎂Sarah Churchill, Duchess of Marlborough

British actress Rachel Weisz brilliantly portrayed Sarah Churchill in The Favourite (2018), which centres on the competition against Baroness Masham (Emma Stone) for the affections of Queen Anne (Olivia Colman).
Weisz even won the BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal!
Susan Hampshire did a much better job in her portrayal of Sarah in the BBC series The First Churchills. Actor John Neville played John Churchill and Margaret Tyzack played Queen Anne. The rest of the cast was outstanding. I own the DVD set. Saw this series back in the 70s and fell in love with it and ended up collecting on every book I could find on them as well as books on the different battles he fought. I also have books on his correspondence with Sarah and Godolphin as well as his military correspondence from West Point. I have been to Blenheim three times. My favorite palace!
Music is distracting, your voice has enough 'character and pitch' to sustain the interest
Appreciate the feedback, I'm working on it! Have a great weekend 😊
Do we know if Sarah ever made up with her cousin?
Was it a case of “wtf? I wasn’t invited? I’m your cousin, Abbie!”
A very interesting lady! I've been wanting to view The First Churchills, a 1969 miniseries about John and Sarah, but haven't found a streaming service that will stream it to the US.
They like to get you in a compromising position
Well, they like to get you there and smile in your face
Yeah, they think they're so cute when they got you in that condition
But I think it's a total disgrace
And I say
I fight authority, authority always wins
Well, I fight authority, authority always wins
Well, I've been doing it since I was a young kid
And I come out grinnin'
Well, I fight authority, authority always wins
If only John, Duke of Mellencamp had been born a few hundred years earlier. He could have warned her..... LOL!
music is irritating.
Have you done any videos on Barbara Palmer before?
Not yet, another for the future! 😊
This was well researched and written, however ruined by the audio editing. The "background" music constantly obscures the text. Would love to see more, but the audio quality is so bad it's not a pleasant experience.
I'm well aware of the problems on the audio on this particular video Alicia!
@@HistoryRoadshow That means the rest will be watchable - fabulous!
I wasn't having a go at you Alicia, but it has been mentioned a few times. Appreciate you watching and commenting. Thank you 😊
Eugene of Savoy was a son of Olympia Mancini sister to Hortense Mancini the woman ho pushed Louise de Kerouaile out of Charles II's favor
Yeah, the music is overriding your wonderful voice. Great video though.
I'm toning the music down! Thanks Kitty for the kind words 😊
Nothing changes. She wanted to marry off her granddaughter, Diana spencer, to the prince of Wales!
Well I must say she quite reminds me of myself 🤣🤣🤣 Especially in the "pathological inability to recognize anyone else's point of view but hers could be right..." Luckily I am working on changing this, as well as my old habit of just saying what I think is 'divinely right' to other people... We should never judge others and trust ourselves completely, and yes, Queen Anne was right, we do need to be kind and compassionate to people...
Question the thought process not the person! Thanks Milica 😊

dis sir john jennings really have 22 kids
Yes! I've been doing my genealogy and found out I am a descendant of Sarah and tracking down all of those lineages has been the most daunting part haha (also, sorry this is 2 years late)
11:24 the monarch still rules UK. The British people are not citizens but subjects of UK crown.
Which is German by blood.
English language was not allowed on the island for a very long period. English were ruled by french , Germans , Norman's and Romans among others.
That the reason they were so cruel to Irish and Scottish people.
The "English" are of Germanic stock
8:27 it was not about man or woman it was about royal blood and right to rule.
Stop misguiding people.
A woman who is from a lower family Nd a PhD can not become queen other than through marriage. But a royal daughter can be a queen of the kingdom due to her blood.
She strikes me as a bit nasty
