I was just talking to my neighbor about this. My st. Augustine yard has yellowed and the weeds/torpedo grass have taken over. This usually doesn’t happen until late October/early November
This rain season has really brought our lawn back we wait until as much bahia goes to seed as possible and then we hit it with the Ego riding lawn mower you blessed us with, everything is filling in nicely and everytime a sod truck drops chunks in the road I go and scavenge them like a vulture and place them in our bald spots, God bless Allyn you would be happy to see our progress since you and brett came out, Semper Fi!
Thank you for all your videos. As a new home owner in Lakeland Florida the sod they laid was great, but then summer kicked in, and it's dying in mass. Do you have a way of receiving pictures so that you can identify what type of grass so I can start reseed, and repair. After doing extensive research I chose Bermuda seed, but still don't know what type they laid , and if you can recommend an easy grass for a beginner.
Northeast Florida going on five weeks now nonstop rain, nonstop, rain, nonstop, rain, nonstop, rain not even an hour to have a breather in between to barely get some time to do an application or cut a little section on my grass. I’m dying here all the crabgrass all the weeds are creeping in. Whole bunch of giant mushrooms in the landscape.
Yes, today seemed like the first sunny day in over a month. I mowed right away and nearly got stuck twice in two low spots I never had before. I am investing in a sump pump to get water out if this continues again.
My St. Augustine has taken a beating this year. Bahia grass and dollar weeds took over and then I've been battling chinch bugs, spittle bugs and moths. Never had a problem with any of that but it was bad this summer. It has consumed all of my free time and my spare money.
I'm in the transition zone and have a swale area in my yard that at some point every summer the grass thins out terribly due to wetness. I have a tall fescue lawn so I just overseed every fall and it looks beautiful again.
I'm new to lawncare. Just bought a house and killed off all the bahia or shouldI say weeds. Trying to figure out what to put down. I do have a lot of shade in the fall/winter. Do you have tall fescue all year round? How does it do in the shade?
@mariebee3146 Tall fescue can do well with a decent amount of shade, especially fine fescue. In Maryland I'm the transition zone, so with my climate I can grow Fescue, bluegrass, ryegrass, zoysia or bemuda. Fescue is best suited for being green most of the year in the transition zone, it it too hot for bluegrass or ryegrass to be sustainable and cool enough that zoysia or bermuda would only be green a couple of months in the summer and totally brown late fall through mid spring. It sounds like you are in the southern zone since Bahia will not grow where I'm at so you are probably too far south for fescue.
Hey brother! I live in Palm Coast, FL and I’m about to re-sod my front and back. Front will be Empire Zoysia. I’m worried about my swales because water has been known to stay in the swales for several days if we get a good rain. Is there anything I can do the ensure the grass survives in that area, despite getting water logged during the summer?
I live on the east coast of Florida(34953).. I'm mowing at least twice a week .. I also have brown spots , especially were the water comes off the roof and hits the lawn.
I'm new to FL lawns and maintenance.. is it possible to scalp St. Augustine? Can I start fresh in my dead areas? or do i need a complete re-sod? I love to use my lawn I don't understand these high maintenance (at least to me) St. Augustine lawns that don't do well when we want to be outside on them. Is there a better alternative ( is the bermuda good?) if I'm going to re-sod or try to regrow a new area of my property?
Allen, Is your Florida Winter Guide PDF still a good to follow? Not sure when you designed that but I'd like to follow it... Do you also have a Summer Guide? Subbed! 👍 Purchased some MicroGreene the other day!!!!
everything’s dead! my tttf checked out months ago. very little rain in Ohio and my entire acre property is done for. throwing down tons of seed once we’re start to get some rain. i refuse to use my Well to water the yard…
Hey Allan I have property inFLA that we are gonna start building a house on, I’m from up north and have no experience with warm season grass , what type of warm season grass would you recommend for a beginner to warm season grass
This year I took on a new job that had me leaving my yard in the backseat and the stars aligned to destroy it. We had that drought in north FL. new guys cut the lawn and scalped it. all my st aug dead. then the pool overflowed when i wasnt home to drain with the pump. so chlorinated the scalped st aug. Now my yard is a mix of dead brown st aug husks, dollar weeds, cat tails, and a few other weed types and crab grass. Completely demoralized and overwhelmed. Tempted to call a professional I just dont feel like I have the patience to solve this one lol(when i get the cash, in between jobs now). Anyway I know there are project yards but this is a nightmare yard haha. And with all the rain its like a soggy marsh now.
My new build bahia-lawn lasted about 3 years and between the past droughts and this year's rain, I've given up trying to save it. I've dumped over 500lbs of topsoil and tried seeding places - neither worked. Re-sodding in patches is the only thing that sticks. The fertilizing is a science in itself and I've got neighbors who destroyed their lawns b/c they didn't do it right. For the time being I've accepted that whatever happens is going to be natural and let it run it's course. Eventually I may hate it enough to have it completely re-sodded in St Augustine, but I'm not at $3k levels of annoyed yet. It sucks that it used to be beautiful but the weather and low-nutrient sand/soil are all working against me.
I have tried the nitrogen and it’s just makes it worse. Bermuda This year has been nearly impossible to grow my grass this year. Used to have to cut grass more than twice a week. Now this year barely once a week or little longer. Seems to be the same everywhere here in South Carolina. Something is wrong this year
Pinellas county - water restrictions until December 31, can't use the nitrogen until October, lawns look like they are dying for those of us who are honoring restrictions...
New to your channel. I have St. Augustine in Arizona. I was wondering what to do in the fall to have a better greener grass next spring. Should I scalp and over seed with winter grass or leave it alone and dormant through the winter? All the fall/winter tips will be greatly appreciated!
@Richualbeats St Aug doesn't have seed you have to use sod peices. I would suggest a weed n feed in Oct and a winterizer in Dec. This all depends on the temperatures. YOu will also need to apply fungicide, herbicde and insecticides. It all depends on the weather in your area - the rain and temp. Follow some of Allyn's LCN videos.
Couldn't the standing water have been pumped away while it was deep with like a sewer vacuum truck or just plain pumps with hoses going off to a drain?
My neighbors entire lawn is clover. Even if I did treatment to beat her clover back and re-grow my bahia, it's an endless losing battle. The past 2 year of Florida Lawn have been nothing but losses. I've had to come to terms with it.
@@dross10001 it’s an elderly woman who’s very sweet and I’ve tried helping her with outdoor things. The lawn just isn’t a capability she has so it’s not something to get upset over.
Too much irrigation and too much rainfall are definitely a problem. I think it’s also a lack of oxygen in the root zone that causes these problems when submerged in water
I hope you and your family are doing well. Please stay safe and God bless 🙏🏽
Saw the latest track for Milton, preparing for the worst and hoping for the best. Stay Safe Allen!
Stay safe out there during the hurricane

That's great to hear brother! I pick up free roadside sod when I can too !!
We had so much rain in upstate New York that the finger lakes went up two inches!
Can’t even think of mud, been 4 weeks without rain here in the north east with 90s and breezy making it drier then ever
Can you make a video on using MSM turf?
Feed it soil and / or sand, plus the N. Give it time you might find the bigger problem, fix the problem, or grow deep turf. Win, win, win!
Nicely done!
One of the characteristics of command is to help moisture content
Can I apply RGS and air 8 once a week

I agree, can we use hydrotain to save this rain for the next dry spell? 😉
Rain has been insane

Hello do I need to put down PGR to slow down the old grass from growing when over seeding?
I would not recommend that. Just stick to the plan as laid out

Stress Blend or Flagship. Which is best in Florida panhandle, Zone 8, for El Toro Zoysia?
Here in Broward County I cut a new build community. They have this problem and they don’t believe me that is not fungus.

I have a question is it ok to dethatch your lawn in the winter here in Florida I'm in Pasco county?
RIP CitraZoy, that stuff ain't cheap. My job had almost a pallet leftover from a job that I laid in my backyard this weekend actually.
Have you seen the vertical drains? Maybe could put in a grid of vertical pipes.
This is one reason I fertilize monthly in the Tampa area.
Idk what fertilizer your putting down lmao

would filling a peat moss spreader with top soil and, adding soil to washed out areas benefit ?
How often should you at top soil, to struggling areas, like around a huge oak?
there is no need for top soil in a lawn. The oak is what is killing the grass.
