RIP Siskel, Ebert, and Spot.
I miss them.
I can’t believe they reviewed Debbie Does Dallas!
Right? What would the point be? Even if they said, "We both give Debbie Does Dallas two enthusiastic thumbs up!," would they expect people to flock to the porn theater?
“Their tiny, little low-budget jaws.”
Funny line from Roger.
Excellent video compilation.
"Ho-Ho, a regular Ding-Dong"
😅😅😅 Good one Gene!
I like how he just sipped that one in there !!
You gotta love their puns. That’s what’s so great about watching reviews on stuff they didn’t like.
This is a great find, It really brings back memories, or old Chicago!
thank you for upload!
I just watched all the dog episodes back to back. Those were great, thanks for posting them. Does anyone else here like The Stranger and the Gunfighter?
You bet I do! And the promos where they point out the overlapping names of the two main stars: Lo Lieh and Lee Van Cleef.
These videos are priceless what memories they bring!
0:00 LMAO I love Spot barking
John Travolta joining a cult? I don’t know; that’s hard to picture…
Wearing "Fredericks of Osaka costumes." Gold!
Exactly!
I loved the "Dogs of the Week" segment as they aired, and used it as a guideline for movies that I wanted to watch. Bit of irony too involving those first two choices - "Up in Smoke" (which was a HUGE hit and launched a film franchise) and "Piranha", which likewise was a big hit and is acknowledged now as a cult-classic that even managed to be remade twice in the decades since.
Agreed❤
7:25 "These films are even worse than 'The Warriors.'" It's amazing how so many critics, including these two esteemed ones, came down hard on The Warriors when released, and couldn't see the incredible genius behind it. As time when on, so many critics re-evaluated the movie, including Ebert, who changed his original take to something much more favorable.
Thank you, Steve
'The Warriors' is fantastic! In fact, they get a lot of things wrong.
Do they not no that 'Piranha' is a spoof?
'Up in Smoke' is one of the funniest movies ever made...man.
'The Stranger and the Gunfighter' is a fun action-packed flick.
'Kung Fu Master' is tongue-in-cheek fun. Not great, but an OK martial arts comedy.
I do agree with 'Debbie Does Dallas'. Even pornos can be overrated.
Many movies are ahead of their time and elicit a need for reevaluation. Bonnie and Clyde, and 2001 come to mind.
@@lionelraoul A Clockwork Orange, Citizen Kane, It's A Wonderful Life, and Wizard of Oz all got lukewarm reception when they were first released.
@@connorbrennan4233 Agree.
Spot is so cute!
Piranha: thumbs up!
Up in Smoke: thumbs up!
Slithis: thumbs down
After they talked about "Up in Smoke", I said to myself "They are hilarious, man." Then I realized I said "man", lol.
You said it man.
I absolutely loved Up in Smoke, it was hilarious!
Ebert didn't like it cause his nickname was "Lardass".
Yeah they was bugging on that one😂😂😂
Me too. Maybe a little weed may change their minds.
I hope the dog was treated well and had a good home
I'm sure it was. I like how Siskel and Ebert pet it.
Thanks for uploading all these fantastic time capsules!!!! I rarely ever agree with anything Ebert and Siskel ever say about any film. Still, these critics were a big part of my childhood and these videos are incredibly addicting!!!!
ahhhhhh a simpler time when an accredited film critic with a syndicated show would review a porno
Thank you for these videos! Keep up the great work...I'm really enjoying them
I'm enjoying these, too!
Up in Smoke is an American classic!
Beyond and Back. Holy shit I actually saw that movie when I was a kid.
I remember when they had The Hills Have Eyes as their dog of the week. It did very well in Boston!
That movie has become a well known cult horror classic as of today, sadly it was remade in 2006.
@@oldfashionedguy1368 It was already a bit of a famous flick in 1977. Made a lot of money too.
Boston and a bunch of hungry cannibals is similar....
Fun clips even though Up in Smoke is awesome (even Pauline Kael liked it!)
I love this. They seem to be having so much fun.
I loved most of these movies.
Love the dog.
Oh wow. Wouldn't even think Slithis would make it to S&E. A triumph unto itself!
Ebert and siskel hate everything I love. What a shock.🙄
Gene and Roger were partially right about "Up In Smoke". After the car scene, the film fell apart.
I was actually wondering what they would say about " The Devil's Rain !! " Then , the next film critiqued was " The Devil's Rain !! "
i'm wondering why they waited until 1978 to review a movie from 1975.
"Piranha" was an early Joe Dante movie, it's supposed to be campy.. "Up in Smoke" was hated by a lot of critics, but it was a surprise hit, since lots of stoner kids like liked this kind of stuff. Never heard of "The Bod Squad", but I'm wondering if Gene ever saw the bizarre Japanese action movie "Sex and Fury" which features a nude swordfight. "Dracula and His Vampire Bride" was typical UHF fodder, but what about "The Satanic Rites of Dracula"? "Slithis" I've heard of, but never seen. "The Devil's Rain" is one of the goofiest horror movies of the 70's, but Gene failed to mention that William Shatner was in it too. "Dogs" looks pretty bad, maybe even worse than "Grizzly", which rip off "Jaws" scene by scene. "Message From Space" is probably the most enjoyable film in this video. Did you know it was directed by Kinji Fukasaku, who would later make "Battle Royale"? I remember "Beyond and Back" and "The Late Great Planet Earth" got advertised on TV a lot, that was Sun Classics strategy. Orson Wells would narrate another End of the World documentary titled "The Man who Saw Tomorrow" which was about Nostradamus. "Secrets" sounds like Cinemax fodder. "The Gunfighter", well there where some strange hybrids in the Italian western movies. "Debbie Does Dallas" was one of those movies people saw just for the title. "Wonder Women", well thats a rip off name for you.
I like The Man Who Saw Tomorrow. I used to watch it a lot when I was a kid.
6:51 I have the strange feeling that that dog must have given Harold Camping the strange idea to put up billboards proclaiming "The World is Going to End Really Soon" earlier this decade.
Funny how many times Gene uses oriental and Debbie does Dallas was viewed as hardcore not porn, also the last one Wonder Women is called Get Out now and made tons of money (at least the idea of switching parts out)
I saw Beyond and Back in the theater in Cleveland as a little kid. Really freaked me out. Then I watched it on youtube a couple months ago and it's hilariously bad. Siskel and Ebert rightfully crucified that crapfest.
" Bump and Grind their way to freedom"...lmbo. R Kelly said ain't nothing with that.
I would've loved to see these two review Sharknado.
Their ghosts would
Up in Smpke is a stone classic. Nerds.
I actually like both “Piranha” and “Up in Smoke.” “Piranha” is really more of a comedy as Joe Dante intended it to be very humorous. The Cheech and Chong film is very funny. Yes, ridiculous, but very funny as well. I’ll agree the other films do look terrible and I’ve seen at least 2-3 of them.
The Devil's Rain is awesome too.
@@ertznay sometimes, they wouldn’t so much bash the movie as they would the way a movie was advertised when re-released.
Piranha is a great funny horror movie and, come on, Message from Space was one of the best Star Wars rip-offs 😂, made by Kinji Fukasaku!
Have any of you who disagree with their negative review of Up In Smoke seen it straight? Don't bother.
I think what bothers me most is the number of these films that I have seen. Uggh.
Does anybody know the name of the martial arts movie that features a guy getting impaled by a spear, pulling it out and continuing to fight? It was a Dog of the Week in the early 80s. Can't remember if it was Siskel or Ebert who picked it (I think it was Ebert). In his review, he talked about an audience member who said "If that guy pulls out that spear and keeps fighting, I'm out of here." The guy left.
Piranha is a fun movie❤
The Bod Squad? My kind of flick. You can see the New Territories of Hong Kong/Xianggang in the back.
Welp, now I need to see The Stranger and the Gunfighter.
And Message from Space was amusing, dang it. Not 'good' in the classical sense, but entertaining in its low-budget boobery.
Hell hath no fury like.....SLITHIS!
Okay..I have a touch of the Flu right now..So I'm SURE I'm imagining, in a feverish fog, that at 9:01 Ebert just called the hard core porn flick Debbie does Dallas his Dog of the Week..what??..Man,I gotta take it easy on that Robitussin..I'm trippin..
I can't believe he actually reviewed a porn. What was he expecting, Citizen Kane?
OH NO "UP IN SMOKE" that's an awesome movie. Most of these suck so bad I've never seen most of them.
Even back then..How are you gonna hate on anything Cheech & Chong?.I never liked them..But they did deliver on everything they set out to deliver..They never set out to be the next Citizen Kane..One of them even had Pee Wee Herman in it..What else do you want?
Gotta take Gene 'n' Roger to task over Piranha and Up In Smoke, but I suspect that Gene's description of The Bod Squad is FAR more entertaining than the movie was.
I'm wondering if Gene saw Debbie Does Dallas at a Drive-In. I can always remember growing up whenever I was looking for movie times and locations in the local paper, at least one of the Drive-Ins that had switched to adult films was always advertising Debbie Does Dallas well into the 80s. Then when we wnt on vacation to upstate New York or Florida or New England and I looked to see what was playing--same thing. I swear that movie kept some theaters alive for years.
I agree with them Dogs is my number 1 worst flim of the year 1976 that I was scared of dog attack.
OMG, people's heads would explode today at the Un-PC Asian puns in Gene's "Bod Squad" review.
Hey Man! Debbie Does Dallas is a cult classic 😆
The movie about the dogs looks so-bad-it’s-good
It is. I watched on You Tube last night.
A lack of fire hydrants can cause these situations 🐅
Cheech and Chong Rule!!!
Sorry, I love Piranha and Up in Smoke.
7:10 that didn't age well, its called eschatology and Lindsey nails it.
Spot is wrong about the first entry.
I disagree with them on Piranha and Up In Smoke. They're taking these entertaining movies way too seriously.
Boy, did Cheech and Chong ever prove these two guys wrong!
"Oriental guy"... not PC, Gene. 'Oriental' doesn't describe people. Its for rugs, etc.
They basically hated pretty much any exploitation movie. As much as I respect their opinion, it rarely influenced what movies I watched.
Up in Smoke unfunny? Gene needed to smoke up
Up in Smoke is a classic! even better today
@@fenian123 Nah, it's one of the weakest C&C movies. They did better.
Late Great Planet Earth was a good book. It is happening in slow motion, but it is happening. The European Common Market became the EU, and that has been a disaster. It might not cause the end of the whole world, but it will cause the end of Europe as we know it.
Lindsay is not a scholar. He does not base his theories on church tradition ( like, say a Catholic or Orthodox writer would) but on his own interpretation of Scripture.
7:26 - ''These films are even worse than The Warriors''
Yeah Gene, and so is your mother 😕
I like The Warriors.
The good ol days, when you could call asian people, "Orientals"
Debbie Does Dallas?????? What is THAT doing here? You don't review porn movies like regular films DUUUHHHH!!!! Gee.....what theater did you see it at? The nice family cineplex at the mall???? How was the popcorn??? Were the guys in trenchcoats bothering you?
These guys slammed Star Wars and blew Ordinary people. Dog of the Old Millenium.
They both like Star Wars.
And they both liked Ordinary People. Which means you have no idea what you're talking about.
Up in smoke 😅😅😅😅☺️...best movie ever
